What hotel can you go to and find a hand written note from the owner welcoming you back. At the Jefferson Inn is where. It is the little touches that make this the most wonderful boutique hotel in North Carolina, and I would put up against any in the Country. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by large wood and glass doors that have that nostalgic creak as you open them. You walk in to the most beautiful and cozy lobby, think lots of dark wood, leather and red fabrics. You are met by the hotel front desk clerk, who will great you enthusiastically; genuinely happy to have you there. And in grand fashion you will be handed the actual key to your room (1 of only 15), and yes you read that right, a real key, on an old fashioned key ring…no key card. You will go up their beautiful wood staircase to your room, where you will immerse yourself in comfort. The rooms are spacious and decorated with old and new furniture pieces. The linens smell amazing, these are not just taken by a bulk company and then put out, they are treated with care. The towels are soft and fluffy, their beds are incredibly comfortable. Their beautiful travertine showers are large and boast two shower heads (a regular head and a rain head, my favorite was the rain head). Even the size of their shampoo and conditioner are a good size, you will definitely get more than just a thimble full that you get at most hotels, you even get a full bar of Ivory Soap. They host music nights most days of the week our in their courtyard. They have full bar service indoors and out on the courtyard. We will always return, and hope you will, too.

Loved the Jefferson Inn from the we checked in. The lobby was beautiful with a sparkling Christmas tree, the receptionist wore a mask and was behind a partition. Felt very safe. Bed was cushy with plenty of pillows that we sunk right into (in a good way). The bathroom big and the rain shower head was awesome (regular shower head also an option in the shower). Our only complaint was that our room was HOT. In December with the window AC unit on and the thermostat set to cool the room never got below 70. A sweaty sleeping temperature. Not sure if this is a common occurrence but would make us hesitate to stay in the summer months. With that said, we’d still recommend this charming downtown southern pines. Enjoyed walking dinner and breakfast and window shopping. The location is awesome.

Thank you for your recent stay at The Jefferson Inn, and for the review you posted. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. It is, in fact, a wonderful historic property in a great location, and the staff and I feel honored to be a part of its heritage. I do apologize that the temperature in your room was warmer than desired. We do our best to ensure that room temperatures are comfortable, and rarely have complaints or get negative feedback on that. I do hope you will stay with us again when you are in the area. Thank you again for choosing The Jefferson Inn, and for your comments. Curtis Dean Owner

My colleague and I stayed for a week and were totally impressed by the facility, it’s location, the restored architecture and history, the nightly entertainment and friendly locals of Southern Pines. What we were most impressed with and what made us feel at home (both of us being Canadian) was the amazing staff. Every single staff member we engaged with went out of their way to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. I travel frequently and have done so over a 25 yr career and the Jefferson stands out as the most inviting and “at home” feeling establishment I’ve visited. Thank you to everyone at the Jefferson for making our stay awesome! I’m sure we’ll see you soon.

We have stayed at the Jefferson Inn before and absolutely loved the charm, location and the staff. We booked a room last week not aware that the ownership has changed. To our huge disappointment, what was once a quaint charming historical property has been stripped of its antiques and reduced to a "AirB&B" look alike with grey laminate floors and grey paint and chrome fixtures. No longer is there staff at the reception to greet you. There is no reception area at all and the management neglected to mention there is a very large construction project going on inside and out. The bar is no longer there and the patio area was filled with construction material and equipment. Guest must now use a passcode to gain entrance into the lobby and their room. At 8:00 in the morning we were awakened by a painter setting his ladder up against our bathroom window. I got up and closed the blinds hoping he would move to another area once he realized the room was occupied. He did not and he continued to work and sing loudly. When he moved to work on the window overlooking our bedroom, I asked him to work somewhere else until check out time but he would not leave. Only after I took his picture and called the management company to complain did he finally move his ladder to another area. (The was 2 hours later). When I called the management company my call went straight to voicemail. When I received a call back about an hour later, the lady I spoke with apologized and had no explanation as to why we were not made aware of the construction project when we booked our room. She offered us a discount on a future visit. Needless to say, there won't be a next visit so the gesture was mute. I gave a 2 star rating because the location is good and the rooms were clean to be fair but the lack charm, amenities and staffing left me totally disappointed and the construction worker refusing to work somewhere other than our windows was unacceptable. It was a total lack of privacy.

The Jefferson Inn's location can't be beat when visiting Southern Pines, which had a surprisingly vibrant downtown. D'Onna was delightful and greeted us with a text message as well as leading us to our room herself. The bed and pillows were extraordinarily comfortable. The room, a standard, was a bit bare with nothing on the walls aside from a large TV and only three hangers in the closet. What we weren't prepared for was the impact of the noise from the lounge downstairs. A popular joint, the cacophony of voices and music came through the floors and walls and went full blast until about 11:30pm. And at 7:30am we were awakened by every little move from the people above us. This clearly is not a hotel for peace and relaxation. I understand the recent renovation did away with the carpets, which would provide at least some sound absorbancy. Hopefully they make the changes necessary to give both bar and hotel guests a positive experience.

If you are planning to sleep during your stay, I would suggest you choose another hotel option.

We arrived for a weekend from out of town and chose the Jefferson Inn as what appeared to be a quaint inn near the center of town. Little did we know that they really do not care whether their guests are able to actually sleep there. The Inn has a small courtyard with a bar out back. Our room on the 3rd floor looked over this courtyard. On Friday and Saturday nights the hotel becomes an extremely loud concert venue. We had our windows closed and still could not hear the television in our own room, much less go to sleep. The concert goes on until after midnight. We called down to the front desk and they said there was nothing they could do.

In addition, the hotel is only 1 block from the Amtrak train line. When trains pass through town in the middle of the night, they sound their horn for the entire time they are going through the town. This happened twice on Friday night at 1:30 AM and around 4 AM – each time lasting multiple minutes. While this is not under the control of the hotel. It is still extremely disruptive to sleep.

If you want to attend a loud concert then the Jefferson Inn could be a good choice. If you are looking for a hotel as a place to sleep, I’d suggest you choose a different option.

I appreciate your review, although it is not the feedback we strive for. Anytime we get a review that is this much of a departure from our normal feedback - especially when we recieve two such reviews from the same party - I am prompted to research the situation, including meeting with staff members that may have been involved and reviewing reservation and phone records. First, let me assure you that we do care about our guests and their comfort while staying with us. It would be short-sighted of us to not do so. When our outdoor courtyard is open during the summer months, we do a fairly robust business in that part of the hotel. Thus, when someone reserves one of our three hotel rooms that overlook that courtyard, either by choice of lack of other available rooms, we do our best to inform them that they will be able to hear the music. I truly regret if we did not convey that clearly, and that you were displeased with your accommodations. Thanks again for your review.

My husband and I came for a one night get away for our anniversary. D’onna was extremely kind and helpful with our booking and communication with her was great. Our room, room 8 was not at all what we wanted. Very simple, no carpet, sparsely furniture with old furniture, a Keurig (with used pods in container on top of unused pods,) but the biggest issue was when we turned out the lights and saw the space around our locked door. So much light came in the room from the hall, and noise from the elevator which was across from our door, sleeping was impossible, not to mention, I was a little concerned about safety! I wanted to like this place, the location is great, but it felt more like a noisy boarding house, than a nice place to rest and enjoy ourselves. Sadly, we won’t be back, but will find somewhere more comfortable to stay.

I love historic hotels and believe strongly in supporting them. The room itself was great, but it ended there. The rear patio throbbed with very loud music both nights we stayed here, and we were as far from that area of the hotel as possible. Bottom line: while the rooms are very clean and beds comfortable, this is clearly a party location. If you value quiet and sleep, don’t stay here.

This is the kind of hotel that feels like home as soon as you step inside. From the front desk to the bartenders to the owner—whom I had the unique pleasure of meeting—everyone was so friendly and helpful. They made me feel more than welcome, and by the end of my stay they even felt like friends. My accommodations were clean, lovely, and comfortable, from the plush king-sized bed to the claw foot tub. The hotel is located in the very heart of downtown Southern Pines, so whether you’re craving a gourmet burger from Chapman’s or an artisan crepe from Betsy’s Crepes, a coffee from Swank or a whisky from O’Donnell’s Pub, you don’t even need an Uber. Shopping, massages, and breweries are also within walking distance. And if you just want a night in, The Jefferson Inn has you covered, from the rocking chairs on the southern-style front porch to the classy bar to the courtyard where live music fills the air on weekend evenings. Being from wine country in Northern California, I’m a picky vacationer... but there’s no question I’ll be returning to the Jefferson Inn as soon as I can.

The staff is my far the best I've come across in my many travels. I had to adjust my schedule a couple times and they were so accommodating and each time made me feel like it was their pleasure to assist.

The final was a change that allowed me to surprise my daughter for her birthday and where other small locations may have given a hard time for checking out early, they rushed to make it easy on me and wished her a very happy birthday as we left.

The location is central to some active nightlife and very good food. The room itself was very roomy and the shower was huge which seems funny but makes for a relaxing end of the day.

I was also quite impressed by how well they were taking care of our military personnel. I heard them on the phone several times with folks who were trying to book a room and they were doing everything they could to work within their time and budgets to assist.

It's all of the little things they do when it seems no one is looking and the things that matter when you are under stress that make such a difference. We will definitely be booking again the next time we visit Pinehurst!

Hi Melisa, The Jefferson Inn does not serve food, other than our continental breakfast which is included with every hotel stay. The Tavern (open daily year-round), and our Courtyard (open seasonally from Mid-March through October 31), both offer a full bar and live music four nights per week (Wednesday - Saturday). We are within a couple of blocks of three highly acclaimed and locally owned restaurants (Chapmans, Chef Warrens, and Southern Prime), and also within walking distance of several other taverns, delis and breakfast destinations. We are happy to make reservations for our hotel guests based on individual preferences - just let us know. Thanks for your inquiry. We hope to see you at The Jefferson soon!
