We are a family of two adults, a teenager and a golden retriever. I was more than pleased with our stay. We enjoyed our room, the environment, the courtyard and breakfasts immensely.

The only staff we came in contact was our chef extraordinaire, Donna. She was so accommodating, she probably would’ve done a cartwheel if we asked her to! We noticed her extra efforts to all guests, inclining vegans and vegetarians. She was kind enough to allow us to bring an extra guest to breakfast on our last day. She personally escorted us to make sure we knew how to access the courtyard that all of us, especially our young dog, enjoyed.

The room, bathroom, cozy robes, fireplace were oh-so-nice. I would note that if your older or have knee issues, you may not be comfortable with the loft ladder. The decor in all areas is top-notch. I typically choose the most modern places to stay, but was intrigued by the old firehouse and am so glad we made this choice. I will definitely be back!

Great. Inn was spotless clean and very comfortable. Stayed in room #1, the Firehouse Suite, which was the biggest room. King bed, jetted tub, large separate shower with two shower heads on opposite walls, huge walkin closet. Room was perfect. Owner/manager, Kitty, was super. Very frendly and you could tell she cares about her guests. We rarely saw her, but she was very quick to respond to our needs, which were few. I think the biggest asset was Donna, the chef. She was there every morning to prepare an amazing breakfast at 8:30. No getting up early for breakfast unless you needed to be. Another guest needed to eat about 7:00 due to work. So she fixed his breakfast then and then breakfast at 8:30 for us. Different and origional every morning. Good food and plenty of it. Donna was wonderful, both as a chef and as a friend to talk with during breakfast. Our room was right across the hall from the kitchen and you could smell the food cooking each morning. I woke up to those smellsl and would tell my wife, "wake up. Donna is in the kitchen". The entire visit was amazing. They made us feel like we were staying with friends or family.

Very nice B&B. Quiet. Relaxing. Enjoyed our room and the fireplace. Not much to do in Rutherfordton, but wonderful restaurant (Copper Penny) across the street. Inn is nicely decorated. Clean. Provides coffee, snacks, etc at night (cake was very good). Breakfast was delicious (fruit, blueberry pancakes and egg in a boat). Chef Donna was so friendly and she was actually the only staff we saw the whole time we were there. I wish there had been a history book of the inn. We came because it had been an old fire station and really wanted to know more about the transformation, etc. Could have used a better TV in the room, but not a deal-breaker by any means. Very enjoyable get-away. Would definitely go again.

So glad that you enjoyed your stay! We do have binders in the room that tells more about the history of the town of Rutherfordton, but that is a great suggestion to add the history of the inn's transformation. Thank you for your input and great idea! Hope to see you again.

We had an absolute wonderful stay of four nights stay during Christmas and cannot say enough about this bed and breakfast. How beautiful and cozy we found it all! The room we chose (room 1) was huge! With a king size bed, walk in closet (and this is not an understatement i the slightest) and magnificent bathroom suite, you would find yourself hard pressed to be disappointed. The bed was comfy, and the fireplaces were fantastic!!!! I especially loved taking a ‘swim’ each night in my giant jacuzzi!!!! You could easily have 2 adults in there!!!
As for hospitality…,Donna, the chef, was accommodating as well, making breakfast each morning for all the guests, and having goodies out to enjoy during our stay. The coffee bar was adorned with all sorts of choices, and the juices and waters were available as well all day long.
The town, which is small, but big on character, is also so moms thing to adore. Plenty of places to visit within a 30 minute drive, we used Rutherfordton as our key port, and ventured out to Brevard, Forest City, Hendersonville and Asheville. Each city hosting wonderful displays of Christmas lights, shops and restaurants.
Thank you to the inn and the lovely people of NC.

My wife and I were in town for a bike tour. We chose The Firehouse for three nights based on reviews, and it lived up to the hype.

We chose to stay in room #1. Despite the creaking wooden floors, the room was perfect with a large walk in shower, whirlpool tub and a very comfy bed. The quirkiness of the “walk-in vault closet” added to the charm.

Best of all was breakfast served to all the guests at 8:30 sharp by Donna. She is such a lovely lady that made a unique and delicious breakfast from scratch each morning. They were the best breakfasts I’ve ever had from a hotel/inn.

I highly recommend The Firehouse Inn.

My wife and I stayed here one night and it was ok but nothing special in my opinion. The staff was very friendly and all was clean and comfortable. But, the room was quite small - not unexpected given the age of the building.

The one thing that we didn’t care for was that breakfast is served starting at 8:30 am. After mentioning that we had to depart no later than 8:00 am because of scheduled appointments, the proprietor stayed she would ask the chef if she could come in earlier. No word back on that even after asking her twice. So, no breakfast for us. This information is not found on their website that I could find. So, somewhat disappointing since we were celebrating the purchase of our home.

I am so sorry that you were disappointed. It looks like we had some miscommunication. In fact, I DID get in touch with the chef and she DID come in early to accommodate you. Unfortunately, when I could not locate you in the Inn, I responded to you by email that evening in place of telling you personally. ( We had previously communicated successfully in that manner so I felt safe that you would receive the message.) Donna, our chef said she heard movement at the end of the hallway, but you never came down to the dining room. This is very unfortunate because she prepares a very nice breakfast. Please accept our sincere apology. You did book our smallest room, but it is my personal favorite, since all the walls are hand painted. Again, I am so sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We stayed three nights in the large Rm 6 "apartment" and loved it. Location was convenient for dining and our travels. Room was comfortable, spacious, clean and fun with quirky historical details. Separate entrance was handy. Breakfasts were on-time even when we requested time adjustment. They were hearty, creative and delicious. Access to cold drinks, snacks and stunning great room during the day allowed us to get our computer tasks done in style. We'll be back!

We had a luxurious stay at The Firehouse Inn. My mom wanted to come up and see the fall leaves and we chose this inn due to it having a ground floor room available. The only caveat was that Mom still had to climb the stairs to access the main common area and breakfast room, but she did so just fine taking her time and holding the rail. Room 6 on the ground floor with its own entry door is a veritable apartment! We spread out in 600 sq feet of living space and could have slept 4 more people in our room [two queen beds and two single beds]. We had a table and chairs, a living area with a TV, a giant closet, dressing area, and a fridge and microwave. I cannot say enough about Donna and the breakfasts. She is a delight who not only cooks gourmet breakfasts, she tells you all about the inn and the recipes and is so kind and personable. Each morning, breakfast was delicious and hearty and kept us full until supper time. The inn is decorated in tasteful furnishings, lighting, and wall coverings. The linens are comfy and high end. There is a lovely patio with tables and strings of lights where we sat one evening to have a glass of wine. The common area has a large fireplace with gas logs, access to ice, wine glasses, snacks, and water. We will be back!

We went to the Firehouse Inn for the first time to celebrate a belated anniversary getaway. What a great place! Our room was #1 and the king bed was extra comfortable. There was a nice sitting couch in front if you wanted to watch tv, plus an area with a desk and chair.. A huge walk in closet that used to be a vault. Plus the bathroom was huge! Giant soaking tub and a shower plus separate areas to get ready. The chef Donna was a fantastic cook and super friendly too! Her blueberry French toast, spinach frittata, fresh fruit, and maple cayenne bacon was a big hit. The place is so beautiful and very clean. You can walk down the road to grab a bite to eat whether it is some pizza or some ice cream near by and there are some cute shops in town. We will definitely return again! It was a great location to drive out to other areas like Chimney Rock, Hendersonville, and Saluda.

We have been to this inn several times and have never been disappointed. The inn is charming, comfortable and beautifully decorated. It was once a firehouse and was converted. It has really high ceilings and beautiful arched windows. Our favorite part of our stay is always breakfast. This time we had German apple pancakes, million dollar bacon, stirred eggs and fruit smoothies. What a great way to start the day! We enjoy chatting with Donna, the chef, and Talia, the housekeeper, such nice people.
