Passing through Auburn and needing lunch we stopped at the Rising Sun. Kitchen was still open so we ordered our hot meals. Lunch was delicious (bush lamb bangers and a Snitty) and the service was excellent. Had been passed the hotel before but had never stopped for a meal, but we will definitely be back.

Don't let the city slickers tell you there isn't great food and service in the country. From the moment we asked about a table for 2 till we left 1 1/2 hours later we were treated like welcome friends. The menu was brilliant , lots of locally sourced produce, beautifully prepared and presented. The prices ranged from bar menu of... More

We had lunch on a Sunday and the restaurant was packed so pleased we had our cousin Philip a local book for us. The food was good and the service great. I would most certainly go back I had Barrumundi and think it was so fresh it was straight out of the water, very good.

Considering some parts of this hotel were built over 150 years ago I guess you should not expect that it is going to be all that modern. The bedroom was very small, dark and claustrophobic with very limited furniture and fittings, but it was clean and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The ensuite bathroom also was very gloomy with an... More

On a two-night stay in Auburn we had dinner one evening at the Rising Sun. We hadn't booked, so had to spend some time in the bar until a table became available. This was not a problem. The bar has a lot of character (as does the barman), and has a wide range of local wines on offer. Once seated,... More

Enjoyed the historical ambience and character of the hotel and our standard room within the hotel building (the lumpy mattress not so much). We ate at the restaurant and were impressed with the standard and the choices. The service was also great.

I enjoyed a one night stopover at this fantastic hotel whilst on a business trip. I stayed in a Standard room (within the hotel building) and it was comfortable - but 'cosy' (no line dancing). The shower/bathroom type area is dated but servicable. I had a good night sleep on a comfortable bed. The evening meal (soup and steak) was... More

Have had a beer here before few years ago but decided to stop in for lunch on our way home from Adelaide. One of the best chicken snitty's i have had. And the Pikes Pilnser just topped off lunch. Recommend if you are passing through or staying in the area to give it a try. Dining room was packed out... More

Lovely old pub with plenty of character. Lots of good choices on the menu and the food was great. Staff very friendly and the fire was fantastic on the cold wet day that we were there. Think that the loos could be spruced up at bit though but other than that I would highly recommend.

What a great find in a little country town, we understand why the pub gets so many good write ups in the local tourist information papers. They obviously have a very good chef as it is far above what you would expect as normal pub food but still very well priced. I would suggest booking as we were in town... More
