We were only here one night but had a great time. The park was well laid out and clean (luckily also only 3 other guests as out of season.) There are birds everywhere, great for bird watchers and wildlife spotters. Wallabies about at night. While we were there flowers were out on many trees, so pretty with the reds and yellows. Nice camp kitchen, clean and tidy. Walk to the swimming hole at bitter springs (or drive).
While only staying for the one night while travelling north we really enjoyed our stay. The people were nice and friendly, our cabin was clean and nicely setup for travellers. we had a 10 minute walk to the swimming hole and we were lucky enough to have a visiting wallaby come to our cabin deck for a hello first thing in the morning.
Stayed here in an unpowered site - great shady secluded spots so you felt as if you were camping alone in the bush. Local wildlife (wallabies) visited the camp and you could hear them moving around at night. Really enjoyed this spot, no over crowding and the springs a short distance away for a cool dip during the day. The amenities are basic in design (corrugated iron/concrete) but they were clean and it was great to have the ensuite style as it felt a bit more private. The camp kitchen was clean and well equipped. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others - one of my favourite "caravan parks" because this didn't feel like one !!!
We stayed here because it's walking distance to Bitter Springs. No bookings taken for a 1 night stay so you need to arrive as early as possible during the tourist season. You pick your own site but we found that most of the available sites were too small or difficult to get into with our 19.6ft van. We didnt need to use the facilities but they looked quite rustic. It is a lovely shady park and the lady at reception was most helpful. So all in all we had an enjoyable stay for our one night at Mataranka.
Lots of shade and very quiet, this is a good spot if you don’t mind it a bit rustic. The amenities are like en-suite units but with corrugated iron walls and cement floors. Lots of dust but a water truck wets everything down twice a day. Friendly staff, good drying space for clothes and a float down the Bitter Springs is 500m walk away (although you can also drive there if your legs are on the dodgy side).
