We have been coming to this site every year for the last 6years. The location is great and the facilities are usually good. This year they had hired old toilets and showers and they weren’t cleaned the whole week we were there. The washing up facilities were poor and dirty with no bin so everyone left their food everywhere. The last two years I have returned with my young daughter as it is usually family friendly. We know it gets busy at the weekends and expect It to be noisey and don’t mind people enjoying themselves. When you arrive you get given a piece of paper to say to be considerate of noise after 10.00 and to be honest I don’t mind if it’s later but 3.00 in the morning right next to our tent with urinating and foul language is taking the mick. The one night when I asked someone to use the toilet and not keep doing it behind our tent they were pretty rude and made me feel quite threatened and vulnerable in my tent. I don’t think security does anything apart from sit in the ports cabin. I’m not one to write reviews but so upset that what has been a family tradition each year will probably now come to an end.

We stayed for 3 nights midweek as a family of 4 (7 & 4yrs) having seen the location last year when airbnb’ing in land. We approached with trepidation imagining the place being overrun during peak season but were pleasantly surprised by the space and later learnt that it’s the weekends that get super busy. The back field that other reviewers mention and which we liked the look of previously was not open/available. The main field does have a bit of a slope but it’s not severe and hasn’t caused us any issues - we ended up with a pitch up against the hedge which shelters from the onshore breeze. No issues with dry ground and tent pegs - ground is sandy. Location is the best in Croyde from what we’ve seen - there are other camp sites with better facilities but they’re a fair way back from the beach and invoke walks along narrow roads which we wouldn’t fancy with the kids. The beach is just the other side of the dunes @ 5min walk tops (add another 5 to get to the sea is it’s low tide!). Town is a 5-10 min walk the other way along a blackberry lined path. Facilities are average - a cluster of portacabines which are a bit dated and shabby. They have been reasonably clean whilst we’ve been here - possibly because it’s not that busy midweek and they’re on top of the cleaning but also possibly because we’re in there early (kids early - 7am and ~5pm before the teenagers etc get in there. Showers were cold after an early surf (8am) but hot early evening. Invariably showers are pretty sandy - unsurprising given it’s a sandy campsite beside a sandy dune/beach. Kids play park very close by - en route to the main Ruda holiday park area - which we visited only to get to the Nisa shop. We cooked on all but one occasion - BBQs etc allowed. On that one occasion we visited Squires Fish Restaurant in Braunton (well worth a visit). Price wise the campsite seemed average for the area - and the location made it acceptable - certainly not prohibitive. We will be back - hoping that the facilities get an upgrade.

Stayed he last night, only booked for 1 night thankfully! The camps in a good location and it’s flattish but overpriced. The washing facilities are grotty! The camp was very hard to find. It wouldn’t be suitable for the elderly or disabled.

Gotta be honest, due to the inflated price (the most I have ever paid for a camping trip) I was expecting a little more. I have been to campsites for a fraction of the price with much better facilities... when i went in the toilets my heart sank as not only was it filthy, there was toilet paper everywhere, all over the floor. It reminded me of a Glastonbury Festival toilet (really grim). The toilet cubicles where quite comical as you had to climb behind the toilet before you were able to close the door. There were only about 4/5 washbasins which for the huge amount of people there, was'nt really enough....i didnt even bother with a shower... i took one look and thought 'No thanks'. The location is great, only a five min walk to the beach or shopping area but the toilets and showers were GROSS!!!!!!!!! definitely wont be going back for this reason!

It seems they spent the budget on patching up the dirt track approach to the site and couldn’t afford to rent toilets, showers or washrooms made after 1985 this year. The showers were the only thing with hot water, they weren’t filthy but you’ve got to wonder how long a forgotten pair of underpants hanging over a door has to stay there...kinda indicative the cleaning staff aren’t doing much. The overwhelming stench on pee coming from the urinals wasn’t really the place to clean your teeth in front of a scratched stainless ‘mirror’ like something off a prison tv drama. Tepid water in the washing area and an overflowing bin bag just left on the floor to scrape your plates....all for the reasonable price of almost £80 for two nights for the two of us and a vehicle. Looking elsewhere next year, shame because the location is great. The facilities make ‘tramping’ a more applicable phrase for staying here.
