The first thing to strike us on arriving at Kalyvitis was the sense of calm and peace about the place (greatly welcome having inadvertently taken the mountainous route from AgNik). Bees about their business, the sound of trees and the weight of the heat made relaxing and slowing down irresistible. The location is beautiful - located at the foot of a great hill, an olive grove there with a micro-smallholding atmosphere. Heidi and Manu made us welcome, took us to our chalet and showed us around. I would describe the accommodation as boutique - the attention to detail in the attempt to create a warm, comforting, but contemporary space has been a great success. Air Conditioning does incur an additional cost. Nearby coastal towns are splendid and there are tavernas and cafes to visit; those on the beaches make spending a day very easy. There are plenty of walks, hikes or runs depending on your thing, or you can spend time on the beautifully appointed veranda and not move at all! We really enjoyed our week at Kalyvitis, were made to feel welcome and at ease and would recommend it to anyone looking to spend time going at the natural pace that the mountains and the sea have dictated for as long as they've been there.…
Well appointed, charmingly furnished and beautifully built cabins in an olive grove - the perfect place to relax and retreat from the world. Hosts Heidi and Manu are charming, helpful and on hand when you need them. Delicious honey, olive oil, goats cheese, an excellent red wine and Raki, all the produce of the proprietors, are available and breakfast can be delivered to your veranda. Bliss. Good walks are well way marked from the front door, and even better ones (e.g. the Pefki Gorge) are nearby. Beach side restaurants in nearby Koutsouras are excellent and there are even more in Makry-Giaios a bit further along the coast. There are excellent kitchens in the cabins as well as an outside cooker on the verandas. The cold tub on the veranda is a blessing in high summer. We shall be back.…
We spent a lovely week at Kalyvitis in early September this year. The cabins are excellent; they are well-furnished and the attention to detail is great. The kitchen is exactly what you need if you are self-catering. We especially enjoyed being able to cook and eat outside on the verandah. The cold tub was also a highlight, just what you need on a sunny Cretan day! Heidi and Manu are excellent hosts, full of useful info and really helpful. They were able to point out lots of walks and nice places to go. Try their homemade goat cheese and wine - you won't be disappointed! Heidi also arranged a rental car for us at an excellent price; don't expect a high end motor, but then again you wouldn't want one on the dirt tracks and windy mountain roads. The wee car we got did the job well enough. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it to anyone.…
