Looking on its website one might thing the place idyllic ! Fair enough it’s location is amazing but it seems owners are unwilling to invest in their property. Everything looked worn and tired ! Decor utterly brown and depressing ! This place could be AMAZING if they brought into to 21st century and made use of the brilliant blue and green colours so inherent to Crete ! Shame

We (my husband and I) had 5 lovely days at Akrotiris apartments. Beautiful ocean view with sun from sunrice to sunset. And despite to this you could always find shade. The apartment was simple, but had all the neccessary equipment to make our own meals, if wanted. But we missed a toaster.... The host and hostess were nice people, service .minded but not intruding. We were welcomed with a really good homemade lemon cake and raki. If we come back to Makry Gialos, we will certainly live here!

Lovely simple studio in Makry Gialos - just on the edge of the bay - really nice location - beautiful sea view and really nice terrace - we had a wonderful view of the village and out to sea - the owners were nice and welcoming and the home made cake was totally delicious and most welcome. Clean and had everything we required - only problem for us was that we found the mattress on the bed to be too soft for us

Our 3rd visit to Akrotiri Apartments and I hope not our last. The owners treat as family not guests. About 5 minutes walk from start of tavernas. Try Gustos Italian Restaurant. We have been many times. About 20 minutes walk away is the Petra Bay Restaurant which is worth going to too.

Akrotiri Apartments are situated in an excellent location right above the sea just up to the west of the harbour. The accommodation is basic but perfect for self catering. The owners change the bedding, towels and clean at least twice a week and are very helpful. Our apartment was number A2, with a very large balcony giving an almost 360° panoramic view. If there was one downside we did have to be cautios about the mosquitoes. Been to Crete many times before and never had to worry about them but after the first night of getting quite badly bitten we took more care. All the doors and windows have screens so problem solved. Overall Akrotiri Apartments are excellent and if we return to Makrygialos we would be very happy to stay here again. Still got a week to go, lovely.

This hotel , is located at the edge of the Makry-gialos, and at the highest point . This was the main reason we decided to stay there . The view from the balconies is unbelievable . !!!! There is absolutely nothing to block your view for at least 250 degrees . !!! The apartment was very clean , and the whole operation is running by the immediate family of the owner. Another big plus that the hotel is located less than 5 minutes walking time from the main restaurant area , and the main beach . Highly recomended .

I stayed at the Akrotiri apartments during Easter (Greek Orthodox) with my family. I enjoyed the spacious apartments, which were very clean, well equipped (it has all what one needs), with Wi-Fi and safety doors. The location is excellent exactly at the edge of a small hill overlooking Makrigialos bay. The view from the apartments is breathtaking. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Upon our arrival, we found in the room homemade cookies and fresh fruits as well as traditional Cretan raki offered by the owners as a welcome. I highly recommend the place.

We had a first floor apartment with wonderful sea views and only a short walk from the harbour which has a good choice of tavernas. The apartments are set on a hill above the village; it can be windy at times but the views make up for this. The apartment was very spacious with a large living room / kitchen, separate bedroom, bathroom and a very large terrace with table and chairs. The bedroom also has a balcony. The kitchen contains everything you need. The owners are very welcoming, there was a plate of home made cakes and some raki when we arrived and we were also given oranges from their garden and fresh juice when we left. Excellent value for such a spacious apartment and highly recommended.
