The main lodge building has charm, but the satellite building where we stayed did not. There were lines at reception, so it was difficult to get advice on the area; breakfast was crowded, and we had to wait for a table; and the hotel is at least a 20 minute walk from town (meaning you either need to drive for dinner or pay nearly 30 EUR per person for a buffet dinner). We paid 200 euro a night for a room, and the value we got in return did not match this price point. The location near the Hammersklamm hike is convenient, and you can see the mountains from some of the rooms (ours had this view but over a parking lot).

If you want to combine active and passive vacation - this is a perfect place for it! It is a beautiful area with many opportunities for walking and hiking. And at the same time the Wellness area in the Hotel is really nice - with lots of saunas and a swimming pool. PS It was the best breakfast I have ever had at the hotel!

We reviewed this hotel a year ago, when we stayed in June 2018. This year we were here in July for a weekend and enjoyed it even better than last time because of our room. We had a room in one of the 2 "Annex buildings", and we were in the one to the right as seen from the main building (the one which has the Spa). We were on the first floor (2nd floor for readers from the US) and our room was close to the train track for the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn and it was very picturesque and idyllic, especially when the trains passed by. Last year we were in the main building but we liked this building's rooms better, a lot more modern and the location was wonderful. Breakfast and dinner were excellent again, I suggest you book half-board, it's really worthwhile and saves you from having to hunt for eateries in the evening when you're tired from the day. We'll come here again, hopefully next year, especially since we again didn't make it into the Höllentalklamm, whose entrance is just next to the hotel. It was too hot this time, so we went up to the Zugspitze twice and we drove to the Partnachklamm one afternoon, which was lovely.

The hotel is larger than most in this area because the older (and perfectly renovated) building is connected with the newer (and perfectly fitting in style) building across the road. Sitting on the very edge of a small village and facing a beautiful mountain, it is a perfect place for the hikers - and some tracks could be rather challenging.

The food was extremely average; greasy Schnitzel, factory chips, bottle salad dressing, and served with real attitude ( we had to ask to have the visibly dirty table wiped, at which point the waiter flicked the crumbs on the floor past our laps). But the reason I am taking time from my busy life to write this up is that the prices were CRAZY. Our lunch cost 30% more than it would have in Garmisch down the road. It's a shame that this extortionate offering monopolises one of the best Zugspitze views in the region....hmmm. Could that be the root of the problem? Feast your eyes while your stomach rebels and your wallet empties.

Dear guest, thank you for taking the time to word your concerns regarding our restaurant. We are constantly looking out to provide appropriate service for our guests and are sorry to hear that this was not the case during your stay with us. While we know that oversights like these are not acceptable, they do happen occasionally during peak hours for which we would like to apologize. Should you find it within you to give us the opportunity to give you a second impression, we would be glad to do so. Regarding our prices, please consider that our pricing is in the average range of several establishments in Grainau. Prices in Garmisch may vary due to a different stock of providers - among other reasons. Be assured that we try to meet the expectations of our guests and, again, are sorry to not have met yours. Kind regards
