With sweeping views of the Azzaden Valley and a backdrop of High Atlas peaks, Kasbah Africa perfectly blends sub-Saharan African lodge style with Berber warmth and charm to create a luxurious Atlas riverside retreat. Perched on a mountainside above the banks of the Azzaden River Valley in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains (at the entry to Toubkal National Park, Ouirgane area), Kasbah Africa can be reached in little over an hour from Marrakech. Offering a high degree of exclusivity Kasbah Africa has just eight stone-built suites, all with panoramic mountain and river views. Each suite has 40 square metres of living space and is furnished with hand-crafted walnut furniture with either two large singles or a super king size bed, wood burner, Berber rugs, a sofa and lounge chairs, spacious bathroom and private roof terrace offering spectacular and panoramic views - perfect for star-gazing. Facilities include a large swimming pool and lawn, Berber tent, extensive landscaped terraced gardens with abundant fruit and olive trees, a bar, lounge and restaurant with log fires, and of course panoramic river and mountain views. For those seeking escape and relaxation Kasbah Africa provides an antidote to the stresses of modern life. The Kasbah offers a wide range of local activities, day trips and tours including guided walks to nearby Berber villages, Atlas treks, Toubkal climbs, nature trails, mule treks, cooking courses, and 4*4 trips to remote mountain villages and beyond. Day trips are available to Marrakech, Ourika Valley, Agafay Desert, Tin Mal Mosque and the Ouirgane Valley.

This hotel was mostly very good . The location is very good - it is nestled in a valley where you can easily walk down to the river and nearby Berber villages. The staff are all very friendly - offering us drinks upon arrival and taking our bags. The pool is large and plenty of Sun loungers for everyone. The food is also very good - although the menu is limited the amount quality of the food is good and there is a wide range of cakes, breads, cereals and omelettes for breakfast as well as drinks. The room prevents me from giving this hotel 5 stars - the bed was not overly comfortable and the air conditioning settings could not be changed and it didn’t seem very effective - which was important as we were there at the height of summer. The bathroom was also not great - the shower did not drain properly and the water from the tap sprayed you when you turned it on. However, in spite of these issues we would likely come back if we were to return to the area.

We had a wonderful time at Kasbah Africa for the beginning of a New Year.
The hotel is in an amazing location and so restful and peaceful.
The accomadation is very comfortable and the restaurant serves some excellent local cuisine,so much is bought from the local market.
Sofine and his staff were superb and made us feel so welcome.
My husband was ill on the last day of the holiday and all were so kind and helpful.
What we love about the area is it hasn't been touched by corporate mass tourism.
Thank you Kasbah Africa,we will return

We have just come back from our holiday and stayed at Kasbah for 9 nights .
The experience was amazing . The views around the hotel is breath-taking. Very neat and clean environment . It is in the middle of the Atlas mountains and covered with a lot of greenery . The air feels so fresh and the place is very peaceful . what we found the most amazing part of the stay was the team , the staff is amazing . They do go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable . They are genuinely concerned that each and every guest should have the best of their stay at Kasbah .
Safyan, Mohammed, Omer and the Gardner , every single one of them are passionate about what they do and a great teamwork .

We enjoyed the walks at the Berber village, salt mine which were booked with the help of the hotel staff.

Food was good quality as you can tell it was made freshly , on request with fresh and organic items.

We loved every single minute of our stay there .

We would highly recommend if you are looking for a relaxing stay, away from the hassle of the city environment .

Regards

Hina and Family

The Kasbah is wonderfully located on the side of the valley with panoramic views.

The welcome was friendly and efficient and I was grateful for the assistance with the bags given the number of steps down to reception.

The rooms are stark but spacious with large sliding doors that let the light flood in. There is plenty of room for two extra beds to accommodate a family of four. Everything is spotlessly clean and functional.

The pool area is a little run down. Many of the sun loungers are torn and need replacing. The pool itself looked like it needed a good scrub but I know there had been some rain the day before so maybe this was the issue. A positive is the large grassy area with awnings and olive trees to escape the sun.

Above the pool is a terrace with a fire pit and table tennis table. Unfortunately the bats were in a state of disrepair and the ball crushed. I asked for a replacement but they didn’t have one so we didn’t play.

I would’ve welcomed more comfortable seating options to sit and enjoy the view. Outside the room were a couple of upright iron chairs which are suited to eating not relaxing. Something lower and softer would’ve made a huge difference. I ended up lying on the bed in the absence of anywhere else to go.

The best part of the stay (substantially contributing to the three stars) was a day’s walking with Hussein. Breathtaking scenery and an outstanding lunch in the village downstream from the Kasbah. It’s amazing how the woman managed to produce such a delicious meal given the circumstances. It’s a great shame she can’t act as a consultant to the Kasbah to improve the food offering which is extremely average.

The two dinners on a half board basis consisted of a small fatty beef tagine and slightly better chicken couscous. Breakfast isn’t much better with cakes under cling film, dairy lea triangles, cereals, pancakes, and an option to order eggs. Orange juice came from a carton and a request for some fresh fruit was greeted with a shrug (although the local market is full of seasonal fruit).

I have had a house in Morocco for over twenty years and have travelled extensively throughout the country. Compared to almost everywhere else Kasbah Africa is strangely soulless. It’s hard to describe but despite the staff’s best efforts it seems unloved and has a feeling of a government owned property. Although mid range, rates are still high and food and drink prices represent really poor value for money. The location is so special that it is a great shame it’s lacking the certain sparkle it deserves.

Excellent hotel, with amazing staff, especially Soffaine the manager. Beautiful surroundings with views of the Atlas Mountain range. Sky dome rooms were nice, large and comfortable with great views. Good, comfort food eating with local cuisine. We went half board, which is great as there are no places nearby to eat as the hotel is in a remote region.

Soffaine can organise customised trips and excursions. The hike through the Tourbkal national park is well worth doing. There are some nice local walks available too. Ask Soffaine about the local woman's community (Tamounte) who take 2 weeks to hand make traditional Berber rugs, these are a fraction of the price of the ones in Marrakesh, better quality and help the local ladies.
The staff really were exceptional and nothing was too much.

Fantastic staff, accommodation and location. Built on the side of the valley so you must be able to manage steps, but this means you have lovely views and privacy in your rooms.

The location is quiet, but you can walk into the valley directly from the garden of the hotel.

Very nice view from the swimming pool, and shade if you want to avoid too much sun.

We followed a guide provided by the hotel to see a local Berber village. A wonderful welcome including sharing some bread just freshly made on a charcoal oven outside.

If you like walking and tranquility and great value quality accommodation this is a great choice.

Our third stop in Morocco at the end of our holiday. An unexpected oasis of peace and beauty nestled into the side of a valley. The staff were friendly, helpful, kind and professional. Nothing was too much to ask. The food was delicious and the rooms clean and comfortable. We booked a hike with a guide which took us along the river, through orchards and villages. We stopped off and were warmly welcomed into Sahara's home to eat freshly made bread and honey and moroccan tea. Thoroughly enjoyed learning how the Berber people live. Our guide, Hassan, was friendly and knowledgeable. He also accompanied me to a local market to buy spices. My husband and I had a cooking lesson out on the terrace and then sat to eat the food with a glass of wine. We honestly felt like we were spoilt and possibly on someone else's holiday. Muhammed and his team were just delightful and charming.

Stayed beg Sept 2023 as a family of 5 for 2 nights. Kids ages 13-22. Having stayed in wonderful Marrakech this place really hit the spot , so surreal. Beautiful setting and scenery. Lovely pool too cool off in . The kids loved the house dogs and we all went for a lovely walk with the dogs to keep us company . Staff were so attentive and could not do enough for us, even with one fussy eater they would accommodate.

We stayed in the cottage and was clean . Not luxury, but very Moroccan and did the job. Only downside was the beds were quite hard, not great with back back, but not enough to ruin this perfect stay!!! .

Did a mule excursion around the local villages, recommended by the hotel manager, which was very good. Would highly suggest this as a family!!! Locals take you round on a hike and were so friendly and informative.

Food was amazing , even did chicken nuggets( for fussy eater I might add) and cereals for breakfast. The breakfast was aplenty of fresh fruit and local cuisine. Lunch and Dinner so varied, again delicious local food , noone went hungry. We would definitely stay here again. We left 2 days prior to the devastating earthquake so our heart has a little special place here. Kasbah Africa will not disappoint.

We stayed at Dar Assarou and Kasbah Africa during our time in the Atlas - both of which exceeded our expectations. The tranquility of the valleys and majesty of the surrounding peaks was matched by our hosts' hospitable, welcoming, and attentive approach. We were very comfortable, but it was the people in particular who made the stay; at the hotels, Emil and Sofiane helped us to feel cared for and at home, whilst Sue in the office supported us with our every need.

The focal point of our visit was trekking, for which we needed guides. Our guide in the High Atlas was Mohamed, to whom we would like to say a huge thank you. His attentiveness, kindness, dependability, sense of fun, and evident love of his environment and community rendered our walks genuinely moving and memorable. We will return! We were also guided by Hassan, whose evident intelligence, incredible language skills and knowledge of the endemic flora and fauna was hugely enriching.

We were able to relax into our stay as we felt we could trust our guides and our hosts implicitly. Thank you!

We had a great stay here. The staff are extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. The views are beautiful and the kasbah is in such a peaceful location. Our room was very big with a super outside seating area although for us, the beds were very hard and not too comfy. The food was tasty, especially breakfasts. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay such a memorable one.

The journey takes 75 minutes if no stops are made en route. Distance is 63 km, a scenic journey through Tahanoute which winds up into the Atlas Mountains and passes through the Berber market town of Asni.
