When COVID-19 closed the entire hospitality world - and our Earth in general - we vowed to Snowbird Mountain Lodge (SML) that we would return as soon as the grip of the Scourge had loosened. Sooner than later, we prayed. With some early and smart rules in regs put in place by Graham County, NC, SML was able to reopen in early May. So notified, we immediately contacted Robert, who per usual could not have been more cordial and , excuse the pun, accommodating. (You would never have known he had lost 100% of his business for 2+months...amazing fellow.) We booked 2 nights.. Another easy drive up from NE Georgia (lunch stop in Murphy - Parson's Pub, A++). About an hour later welcomed by the ever-enthusiastic Ginny, who although attired in the fashion of the new normal "face covering" per protocols, could not mask her innate "welcome back, great to see you!" esprit. We again opted for Room 18 (upstairs corner) and all new safety guidelines were laid out in plain language. SML had clearly done its homework anticipating reopening. To wit: All staff wore face coverings and gloves; occupancy capacity and social distancing seriously (but gently) applied; table spacing more than exceeded guidelines (confession - I have always been a BIG fan of social distance dining). SML cuisine was as savory as always...chicken, pork, Caesar salad, new potatoes, cheese plate all superb. And something else: New, shiny and sleek silverware. Small detail? Perhaps. But this was one of the many ways that Robert and Mandy, instead of letting COVID take them into the world of "woe is us", used the closure time to tweak here and there and make SML better than ever. In sum..we were DELIGHTED to help with SML's restart/recovery. Fingers crossed the recent challenges to our world will be overcome step by step. Indeed, at this early juncture on the road back, our recent SML interlude qualifies as an occasion to say "Welcome Back Goes Both Ways." We are booked for at least two more visits in 2020, and we encourage all looking to shed the angst of COVID in a safe and enclave-ish setting to escape to SML. Bravo, Robert, Mandy and Team.

My husband surprised me with a two day getaway to this AWESOME RESORT nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains for my 60th birthday! From the moment we arrived, we entered into a realm of COMPLETE RELAXATION AND PEACE! We literally unplugged from the world and breathed in TRANQUILITY at its finest! The views were BREATHTAKING from EVERY angle! Mandy and Jenny both were gracious, accommodating and genuine....they made us feel pampered, special and blessed....as did our Chestnut Lodge suite. It was impeccably clean and comfortable! All guests enjoy an all-inclusive stay which provided my husband and I three of the most DELICIOUS meals daily that we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The menu options were 5-Star and offered a variety of choices for every palate ...kudos to Chef Frank! Our stay was truly a Godsend and one we will NEVER FORGET! THANK YOU SNOWBIRD LODGE! A “ PEACE” of Heaven on earth! Gary & Karen Bowman

I stumbled upon SML while traveling through the Smokey Mountains three years ago. Took my boyfriend by last fall while visiting friends in east TN and we decided to celebrate our engagement this Valentine's Day nested in the mountains. The team at SML made our entire stay and especially our engagement experience super special and so we're considering nuptials there this spring/summer from one of the many BEAUTIFUL scenic maintain views SML has to offer. THIS IS TRULY A UNIQUE DESTINATION unlike that of touristy nearby Gatlinburg including mountain view rooms with all the comforts of home yet all-inclusive fine dining and outdoor activities. We can't wait to visit again!

Our anticipated weekend getaway, prefaced by an August 2019 reconnoiter/visit, exceeded expectations. The notions we had, based on the informal stopby earlier, were turned from “could be” to solid “definites” from the moment of arrival. We were again greeted by front desk “ambassador” Ginny, who personified cheerfulness (let’s ratchet it up to effervescence) with that invaluable “Yes…now, what was your question?” commodity of cordiality. Naysayers and doubters, come up and prove me wrong. Peruse adjacent reviews…setting, scenery, lobby, rooms, cuisine, team-focus on guest services all conspire to produce an ambience, and atmosphere that guarantee relaxation suffused with tranquility. If you cannot “kick back” here then woe is you. A singular destination about 3000’ up and above Robbinsville, surrounded by nature at her best. Forests, lakes, streams, winding (and yes, be prepared for innumerable twists and turns) roads, flora and fauna…SML is even better than brochures, websites, property and guest photos…at least in our opinion. Now specifics to help those (like us) who look for such in reviews. Personnel – Ginny (aforementioned), “Captain” Butch presiding over a fireside (alas, gas lighted but the real deal is in the main lobby area) bar/lounge; Kayde and Tina our dinner servers; Executive Chef Frank, who took time from a hectic afternoon to detail how the swordfish I opted to order that evening had arrived; Chris, sous chef, who afternoon prior took the time to walk me (garlic sensitivity) through the evening’s offerings; Ada, who made sure we were seated precisely where we had requested for dinner. (All kinds of options…we enjoyed Terrace, table 6.) Kudos saluting everyone else on the SML team. Some reviewers have noted the “thin” walls. Yes, the Lodge is old…no, it deserves VINTAGE. Room hint – Quietest?…upper floor, rooms 18 and 19 at the end of the hall. Or, for total privacy you can choose one of the cabins. Regarding the economics, some may take pause with a $300+ daily rate. But look deeper…you receive THREE full meals (sans beverages)…as bountiful a starter breakfast as you could ask for, picnic lunch (backpacked) prepared to order for daily adventures beyond the property, four-course dinner to match any restaurant’s cuisine within a 500-mile radius (hyperbole intentional; Frank’s swordfish was as succulent as ever consumed…hyperbole #2 intentional). Notes: You are afforded the chance to pre-order lunch from an ample menu while having dinner the night before; on day of departure you have the opportunity to receive another lunch – similar offerings just paper bag styled. Activities, in-house by the roaring ‘real’ fireplace or in the North Carolinian outdoors, match everyone’s tastes…from sublime to super-rugged. Our best way to compliment? We are booked for November 2020. Recommend unconditionally.
