My wife and I were fortunate enough to stay at the Holly Inn during the 2024 US Open. We put our name on a list at the end of the 2014 Open in hopes that 10 years later we would be lucky enough to stay there. They kept the list and informed me a few weeks ago that they had a room for us!!! We were astounded and thrilled! We are well traveled and simply amazed at how absolutely wonderful our stay was! Every staff member (starting with Lauren in Reservations from 2014) were genuinely focused on our comfort, satisfaction and fun experience! The people make all of the difference in a setting like no other. The history of The Village of Pinehurst and the Holly Inn is in great hands! We are already eager to return even before the 2029 US Open!!!

The package included golf, lodging in a condo, and breakfast/dinner. The food exceeded our expectations. Especially Jay at the omelet station. The chocolate souffle was delicious. For spouses who are not golfing, there is not much to see or do. The condo was clean, but carpet & cabinets were a bit dated. This is a destination/bucket list type of golf resort. And pricey! Golf courses are well-kept. Golf clubs were moved daily. Plenty of golf staff. Of the four people I interacted with at the front desk of the Carolina, there was one standout. I would not hire the three others as their Customer Service skills were lacking. One person deserves all the praise for her attitude, helpfulness, caring, and knowledge. Please reward Zanayah Brown. Kudos and thanks to her.

I stayed for 3 nights on a friends golf trip. I had my own room with a King Bed. The room was small to say the least. The bathroom though was magnificent and probably one of the best hotel bathrooms I have ever had the pleasure of using. It was all marble from floor to ceiling and great walk in shower. Loved it. The room had a safe and closet. The bed was comfortable also.
Now I want to address the pricing of drinks at the hotel. Absolutely ridiculous. I paid $11 for a captain and coke, you’ve got to be kidding me. And the wine is priced about 3-4 times actual price which is also ridiculous. Hey it’s nice to sit out on a rocking chair and take in the environment and enjoy a drink. But those prices are crazy. My package cost about $1,300 plus tax for 3 nights and 4 rounds and breakfast each morning. I did have my own room also. If I go again I would stay in one of the other places such as the manor.

Pinehurst #2 was great, #4 was a very respectable track, but the resort was just disappointing in every other regard.
While maybe at one time a stately hotel, the Carolina is in significant need of a facelift and improvement in service. The Carolina Room, the formal dining room, feels like you are in a banquet room of a Marriott. It is loud, it is bright, it feels like it was created just to check the box of offering a high end menu for the meal plan. The entire dinner waiters are running through to Cary food from the kitchen to the other restaurant in the hotel, making it feel like a busy airport.
Communication around handling golf clubs was also lacking. My wife and I shipped our sticks, they arrived a week before our arrival. We had booked our tee times and caddies in April and, as requested by the hotel, the date, time and course of our first round was prominently displayed on the shipping label.. When we arrived, with very little time to make it to our tee time, they had no idea where the clubs were, and they were not at the same location as the golf courses or club storage. After an hour they located our bags and got them to the Golf Pro Shop — but not in time for us to be able to play a full round.
When we booked our rooms we were told not to rent a car because there was a free shuttle that would take us anywhere in the Village. However, when we went to get the shuttle to take us to dinner at Elliott’s on Linden (the highlight of our visit) 1.8 miles from the hotel in the Village we were told they would not take us. We ended up hailing an Uber.
Overall, would not recommend. It just feels like corners are being cut at every opportunity and they are milking the history of #2 as long as they can.

For one of the most elegant dining rooms in the area, I was a bit disappointed. No sparkling water on tap. We were told the machine was not working. The evening prior we were at the casual dining restaurant just steps away from the formal dining and they had seltzer water on tap. ( but they did not have a working blender).
So we told the waiter that the casual dining area had seltzer on tap and he asked us if we wanted him to go there to get it. Hmmmm.. we answered “yes, thank you”.
The server was very serious, not very friendly. We were the ones that attempted to break the ice
The lobster tail for $54 was a bit small. The other good items were excellent. The Veal Oscar was very very good.
It was obvious that the serving staff was not fully staffed as they should.

I went to a Pinehurst for what is probably my 30th trip. It’s always been wonderful in the past. Unfortunately this time I had a horrible experience staying in the Pinehurst condos they had mildew in the bathroom and in the shower I got over that and then they missed billed me for caddies that I never took, finally about a month after the trip ended they sent me an email saying they had a billing system issue and they need to charge me more money. They proceeded to charge me another $300 and did not provide an invoice or anything I then went through billing support to try and figure it out and someone named Vicki confirmed that I was miss billed for caddy charges and pro shop purchases. She then completely went away and hasn’t responded in days. At a resort as expensive as Pinehurst. I’m extremely disappointed to be chasing down people at the resort for overcharging me hundreds of dollars for a subpar stay .

The Pinehurst golf course lived up to the hype. It was well kept, challenging, and stunning in the hills of Carolina. The hotel was also beautiful, very nostalgic, unfortunately they were doing a lot of renovations with the villas and the front so it was a bit ugly and messy. Now that I've talked about the good we can get to the BAD.
The food was TERRIBLE, honestly one of the worst filets I've ever had the meat was incredibly low quality, they over cooked the steak, and it tasted like the chef took the lid off the salt and pepper container and dumped it on the steak. The salads were mediocre at best, the only highlight of the Carolina room dinner menu was the arancini which the staff never even recommended. Additionally Pinehurst was not transparent at all with the upcharges, $50 to play a 9 hole par 3 course that barely exceeded 100 yards on one to two holes max?! What a rip off you can't even play it enjoyably because some groups have 8+ people and its turns into a 2 hour round. Additionally, if you ask for your bill they won't tell you that there is an upcharge for playing course No. 2, so very quickly my bill was an extra $250 from what I was expecting.
If you love the game of golf you will probably enjoy and won't mind the upcharge and god awful food, but if you are a casual player I would avoid or make sure they lay out all the costs for you up front and AVOID the Carolina room for dinner.

BEWARE RIP OFF - We’ve been here for two day and so far it’s been a terrible golfing experience. We are paying over $2000 per day for each couple and the room at the Carolina Inn is “ok”. Small but, clean and nicely appointed. The food was pretty decent at the Inn too, but as for the golf. First the entire driving range is shut down at the main Pinehurst Resort so you have to hit off mats into a NET to warm up. Then we find out the course we are playing today (#4) just had the greens aerated yesterday. They were bumpy, slow and just a terrible putting surface. Nobody told us in advance they were planning to punch the greens and no discount was offered for poor condition. The overall conditioning on #4 was also very poor. A very disappointing experience for the kind of money they are charging. Tomorrow is #2 and then #10. I hope they are much better. Very disappointing so far.

We were there w 2 other couples for an overnight including dinner. We asked for and we’re told we had a lawn view. Hurrying to change for dinner we showered then looked out the window to see the roof top of the inn’s covered main entrance. In bad repair it was a construction site too. We were offered to change rooms but declined as we had already settled in. After speaking with 2 managers we were told the reservation sales office would contact us with perhaps a decrease in the room rate or a discount on a future room. 2 weeks later we’ve heard nothing. Also 4 of the six dinners orders in the dining room were dried out meat. Breakfast the next morning was lovely though. And the halls are lined with great golf memorabilia. Won’t return

Unfortunately our stay at the Carolina Inn was a triple bogie. Throughout the resort the shortage of staff is evident. Those working were all gracious and at times almost jogging to take orders and serve guests . But it is evident there are insufficient of them . We waited for a table at breakfast as there was only a single busser to clear tables of prior guests . The hostess was most gracious and hospitable . It took almost 15 minutes to receive our drinks in the Ryder Cup lounge. The grill at clubhouse only offered a buffet at lunch with no table service or an a la carte menu. Yikes ! Thanks Unsanitary in these Covid conscious conditions .
Service at fine hotels and resorts is personalized and caring, at times going beyond what is expected. Our experience indicated the hotel is now being managed to accommodate its many guests in the most cost efficient way. Sad to see the storied character of Pinehurst be so diminished .
Adding to our dissatisfaction , at check out our bill included a deceptive line item called Golf No 1-5 Green Fees. There were two $50 charges. When I inquired It was explained that it was for playing the short nine hole practice Cradle course. The chafe is fine just disclose it honestly When I booked the golf package I asked if playing the cradle course was included and I was told it was.
Unfortunately mamnagement never responded to this feedback after requesting it.
