We struggled to find a spot to stay on Sifnos but were extremely happy with our decision to book Smaragdi. The updated rooms were well-decorated and extremely clean and cozy. The restaurant was delicious. We had one of our most memorable meals on the island there and the made to order breakfast is a delicious way to start the day. The hotel is well-located. The staff are extremely friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this gem of a hotel. Looking forward to returning one day.

Our 9 nighs stay in Smargadi Hotel in Artemonas was an excellent choice. Beautiful Artemonas is a magnificent place to stay while in Sifnos, with easy access to anywhere on the island. Smaragdi Hotel is just next to the bus station, in front of the beautiful church. Adonis, the owner, is an excellent host. Always smiling and ready to help and to offer advice about where to go and what to see, what will be best everyday and in each wheather condition, where to find good music and so on. Together with his attentive team they managed to point to the special things that made our stay fantastic. Our room was always meticulously cleaned and has a private balcony, overlooking the square and the church. Not less important is the fantastic breakfast, with several choices of omelets ,pancakes, thick greek yogurt with fruit or granola and more. And of course we enjoyed daily the best coffee - whichever kind you like. The hotel also operates Smaragdi restaurant - with intelligent and delicious food choices, of which I recommended heartily in the restaurant section. Stay in Smargadi Hotel - you will enjoy every moment!

I found this hotel really nice and warm! the staff and Mr. Antonis do all the best to make you feel comfortable and at home in a cosy atmosphere. Altough my room was not extremely new esp. the bathroom (I recommend to install a shower holder) the accomodation was comfy and pieceful as the island itself. Far from the crowd of the beaches and with Apollonia in reach of a 20 minuted walk thru beautiful steps, it is the perfect spot to visit, hike the island and reach pretty beaches with buses starting at 9 am near your breakfast area. Antonis will advise on how to organize your activites and I strongly recommend to eat dinner there as other tested places are lower in quality and food disply.

My wife and I just returned from three weeks in Greece, and we still dream of the magical island of Sifnos, and the phenomenal Smaragdi hotel. There are surely many other hotels and restaurants on the island, so here are the reasons why we recommend this one: First, the owner, Antonis, is amazing. Every day he suggested the best possible places for us to explore on the island - places we never would have seen otherwise, including many hidden gems. Our first day was one of the best days of our lives (going to several of the most beautiful places we've ever seen), and it's all due to his great recommendations! (The rest of the staff was also excellent! Everyone gave top service.) Additionally, the meals are phenomenal. Among all the Greek islands, Sifnos is famous for its great food, so, during our visit, we tried almost all of the top-ranked restaurants on TripAdvisor. This hotel deserves top marks for its food alone. For example, we love Greek salads, which we eat all the time (both at home and during our many visits to the Greek islands.) Smaragdi had by far the best Greek salad we have ever tasted. Not only were the ingredients the most fresh and delicious imaginable, but they add a local cheese (instead of using the traditional feta), which is mind-blowing. The location is also superb. Artemonas seems like a better place to stay than other villages on the island, but it's so easy to get everywhere else by walking or by a cheap, easy bus ride. We didn't have a car, but Antonis made everything so easy for us, explaining how to get everywhere we needed. There were so many superb hikes and walks that were just moments from our room. We could go on and on, but you get the idea: This place is a gem!

If there was a prize for best hotel owner then this would surely be the man who would get it. Always friendly, informative and helpful and made our stay really special. The hotel is being refurbished - outside done and 4 of the 12 rooms now completed - we stayed in room 11 which was really lovely. The hotel breakfast was a real treat and we had the most wonderful poached egg with cheese and scrambled egg and salmon. The hotel is in a very nice location in this lovely quiet village. You can walk into Apollonia in about 15 minutes whilst the bus stop is almost next to the hotel. Go to Faros and Kastro which are great examples of Greek sea villages and easy to get to on the bus. Sifnos is a truly beautiful island and we thoroughly recommend staying for a few days in this lovely small hotel. We would love to have had a swimming pool but otherwise a great hotel.
