This place will not disappoint. The view is amazing and crew at captains landing are extremely friendly and want your stay to be perfect. It is close to everything wonderful restaurant just across street.
We know we could try other places on Ocracoke, but for a couple looking for the equivalent of a small condo with a fully equipped kitchen, Captains Landing is perfect - and it's also right on Silver Lake Harbor with beautiful views from balcony, living area and bedroom, and in a location convenient to everything - not to mention the wonderful people who run it and are right there if you need anything. And off-street parking and golf carts for rent. We loved the place the first time we stayed there, love it still, and hope to return the next time we stay on Ocracoke.
Terrific location, comfy room with the feel of an apartment, quiet, quick responses from staff, super easy check in and check out. We loved having a dedicated (roomy) parking space. This is our new spot at Ocracoke!
We stayed two nights here for an exploratory trip to Ocracoke by airplane. One of the owners picked us up at the airport and showed us the town before bringing us to our room. He also gave us two bicycles to ride around town with. We did ride to the beach for some surf fishing and walking. We enjoyed riding around Ocracoke which was a very charming place to visit and it reminded me of a New England Fishing Village. The room was clean and kitchen well equipped but we did enjoy several good restaurants during our short stay. Eating ice cream at the town square watching the sunset was a pleasure. We will be back and definitely stay at the Captain's Landing.
This was our first stay in Ocracoke, though we've been visiting the Outer Banks for about 10 years, normally renting condos in Hatteras and always taking the ferry across to Ocracoke for a visit. We'll be back! Things seem to get quieter as you go down the Outer Banks from the madness (in-season at least) north of the Oregon Inlet, and for us, Ocracoke is pretty much perfect. We loved the suite at Captain's Landing, similar to a condo, but with maid service (which we wouldn't have asked for but appreciated) and a readily available and much appreciated staff. The first day we had trouble with the TV, and they sent their very nice and capable maintenance man in to take care of it as soon as we reported the problem. They took good care of us - Deena was wonderful! We chose Captains Landing for the location, which was just what we dream of - right on the water looking out over Silver Lake harbor. An added benefit was that it is just a couple of doors away from the Ocracoke Seafood Company, which sells fresh seafood caught by local watermen who manage the business (owned by a foundation), so you both get the freshest fish and see the money go to the local watermen who work to catch it. Things can't get better than that - and the fish was wonderful cooked in the well-equipped full kitchen in our Captains Landing suite. If you're not into doing your own cooking, the best Ocracoke restaurant we have found so far is Dajio, located practically across the street from Captains Landing. We rented a golf cart (another amenity Captains Landing offers - along with a library of books to loan, which we took advantage of too). Just driving around in a golf cart was a lot of fun, and the 20 mph speed limit and patience of the drivers we encountered made the golf cart the perfect vehicle. The beds were comfortable, the extra half bath a welcome convenience, and we loved sleeping each night with just a screen (or a sliding glass door the one night it rained) between us and the moonlit harbor. Every day began with coffee on our balcony. We were supplied with envelopes of Folgers coffee (plus sugar and Coffee Mate) to use in the kitchen coffee maker, which we appreciated even though we didn't use it, since we travel with coffee beans and a grinder. Except for the night we arrived and the night we ate at Dajio we ate while enjoying the same view. I can't say we did a lot other than relax, but Captains Landing kept us happy and there is so much to enjoy just wandering around town. We'll be back!…
This is a small hotel with patios/balconies right on the harbor. The balconies are HUGE - very deep, with several lounge chairs plus a circular wooden picnic table with two benches. The sunset pictures are real -- picture postcard perfect. The harbor is not noisy, and no strong diesel or fishy smells - at least in April. The only noise problem came from a group of guys feeding the seagulls one night, so everyone had to put up with the cawing and begging for hours until they calmed down. Hardly the properties' fault. Inside, these are one bedroom, 1.5 bath apartments. (A few larger units are available). There is a full kitchen, including range, stove, microwave, full fridge, coffee maker, and small dishwasher. Cookware in our unit was new. Furniture and most fixtures were dated to the 90's but the bed was very comfortable and reasonably firm. There is no dining area other than the patio or bar height stools at the front of the kitchen counter. Small seafood market about 3 doors down, you can watch from your patio the men cleaning the fish and feeding the rest to the pelicans, then you can eat the filet in the evening. Location is perfect - right in town and within walking distance to several shops, restaurants and several attractions, like the little museum, British cemetery, lighthouse (these are each about 5 blocks away). Nicest restaurant on the island(Dajio) is virtually across the street. Also recommend the wonderful walk along Howard Street - old cemetery, beautiful trees, and pottery store across from the motel. Parking is limited, and the spaces are smallish, same as all over the island. Not a good town to have your SUV or big pickup. You'll just get frustrated and annoy others. Everything was clean, and they had a useful texting system in place when we needed anything. Overall a fabulous experience. Despite the 10 hour drive, we will be back.…
When we first arrived, I was sure that I would end up giving the place a 5 star review. All rooms are suites with a full kitchen, small love seat and tv in a sitting room and a great deck over looking silver lake. The furnishings were typical beach condo grade, but everything was really clean. The owners were very attentive but even though, we had some issues. The ice maker had to be repaired, the dishwasher didn't work and one of the owners unlocked the door and would have walked in on us had i not jumped up and grabbed the door!! It was a mixup and they called and apologized, but it seems like they should have a better system in place to avoid that kind of intrusion. Nice location, great views, decent rooms but frustrating that the equipment in the room wasn't checked out before renting it out and a little concerning that there isn't a better systme in place to ensure guests aren't surprised by someone entering the room. …
It has been a tumultuous year since last summer's stay on Ocracoke. Especially with the COVID, as well as other family illnesses. And somehow I have only now noticed I did not post a review! It was our 9th seasonal stay on Ocracoke Island, which we have come to think of as our home away from home. We live in Columbia, Missouri, and gladly mage The trip annually to stay a week on this incredible island. The last 6 year's we have stayed at Captain's Landing, often in the penthouse, and almost as often at the adjacent Captain's Cottage. Both offer outstanding accommodations, and views of Silver Lake Harbor that are exceptional. Part of my daily activity is dedicated to photography, and this waterfront site often offers breathtaking views. Captain's Landing is well-managed with pride of ownership and customer service abundantly evident. The location is convenient for short walks harbor-watching or going out for excellent meals. We are looking forward to this year's visit, as always, and encourage other Ocracoke visitors to allow Captain's Landing to be your home away from home on Ocracoke Island. …
Although my husband and I have been going to Ocracoke for the past 50 years , we’ve never stayed right on Silver Lake! We usually rent vacation homes, but this time it was just the two of us, and Captains Landing was PERFECT! Three weeks at this convenient small suite hotel was perfect! Our hosts, Betty and George, are awesome and there was no need that went unmet! The “suite” was much larger than expected as was the balcony! We were comfortably able to entertain friends for dinner and we enjoyed all the space and privacy. We were in Suite 104, first floor, no steps. The wonderful staff were so accommodating from Deena in the front office to Javier and his wife who were an excellent team for cleaning, etc. If you are looking for a perfect, convenient stay in the quaint village of Ocracoke, then this is your place! …
We had an excellent stay at Captain's Landing. Beautiful views over the water and gentle breezes to cool the hot summer days. Thank you Deena for the tea kettle and to all the helpful, friendly staff.
