Detailed Reviews
We have never stayed at the Islander Motel before- to be honest we always stayed at The Tar Heel across the street. However, after not being able to get a room there we decided to check it out. We were not disappointed. The room spotless! The housekeeping staff there is amazing. The cleanest room we have ever had on the island. We were staying on the first floor and you couldn't hear a peep from above or on either side of us. Beautiful landscaping and great beach access. Nice pool with plenty of chairs and umbrellas. We had an efficiency and it was well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. The bathroom was recently updated and had a detachable shower head which made it very helpful in bathing our disabled child. Awesome bath towels as well. On site washer and dryer! Awesome with three kids. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to splurge on an extra night. Great location too..Forget Jeanette's Pier- the Outer Banks Fishing Pier is a short drive and a whole lot better! If you are a pretentious yuppie this place is not for you. It has that old beach motel feel too it and it probably won't be good enough for them. We will be back.

We just spent a very enjoyable 5 days at The islander, and as it was our first stay there, I wanted to post a review. We own a property in South Nags Head and rent it out during the full season. We always like to do a "mid-season check" on our house to make sure nothing is broken and that it is being well cared for by the property management company.
We have stayed at a couple of different hotels in Nags Head but will definitely be returning to the Islander. It has the perfect oceanfront location, a pool, landscaped gardens, BBQ locations with picnic tables, Hatteras Island two-seater swings under the shade, spotlessly clean and owners who make you feel very welcome.
The rooms on the first floor are efficiencies and the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms all have a microwave, coffee maker, coffee, a small refrigerator and the balconies overlook the ocean. Decor is a little dated but if that is important to you, then I suppose you have the option of spending $250+ per night at one of the larger hotels. Most important for us was the fact that the beds were very comfortable and once again, the room was spotlessly clean.
I saw a review criticizing the fact that the air conditioner vents onto the balcony but we were not bothered by that at all. I suppose if we were, all we would have to do is turn it off and then back on again when we went back inside. A small issue considering the affordability of this hotel!
I think it is a hidden gem on the beach road and as soon as we know our dates for 2015, we will be making our reservations!

Chose this motel after searching and calling everyone on the outer banks. We were so pleasantly surprised. This motel is the PERFECT location. Our room overlooked the ocean. Was so wonderful to see the sunrise and sunset right from our balcony. The Islander has everything you need. Beach access right outside your room, heated pool, ice machine, wonderful staff, clean rooms, and tables outside to sit and relax. I have stayed at other motels here at the obx, and I was very impressed with this one. You just cannot beat the location for the price, and we like the easy access we had right to other attractions from that location. Just a hop skip and a jump to Roanoke Island, Bodie Lighthouse , and Pea Island. Loved our stay, and cannot wait to come Back!

Clean, nice place to stay on the beach and well priced. Friendly staff and very accessable. We stayed on ground level with no ocean view but had a kitchette with microwave, refrigerator, stove, sink, toaster, coffee maker and all the pots, pans and utensils. Didn't have an oven though which I expected. Nice size bathroom with great removeable shower head which comes in handy when you get sand everywhere. Needs a shower clothes line for wet suits. Beds were very comfortable. Had a back door to a small porch which was nice in the morning while waiting on everyone to get up. I highly suggest this motel and will stay here again.

Although we did not have reservations and arrived late in the evening, we were kindly greeted and set up with a 2nd floor room with an ocean view for 3 nights. The price was very reasonable compared to other oceanfront rooms I had checked out online. The lady checking us in told us they had just put in all new mattresses. They were very comfy! Our room had a nice size refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker w/coffee. There was no extra charge for Wi-Fi service which worked fine. The hotel is not real large (which I liked) and is well kept. There is a lot of nice landscaping and there always seemed to be someone around there doing some type of upkeep on it. The pool was very clean and since the hotel is small, there were rarely more than 3 or 4 people in it at a time. The housekeeping staff did a great job and all of the staff we encountered were very polite. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and will definitely stay there again if we're ever back in that area.

We stay at the Islander every visit to the OBX. It’s always clean, friendly, reasonable, & conveniently located to beach access and all things OBX! The entire staff is wonderful – they always wear a smile and offer pleasant “hellos”. It’s quiet and comfortable though nothing fancy! Guests seem to be really friendly too. Our favorite beach accommodations anywhere!

THIS IS THE PLACE YOU WANT TO STAY! We arrived in OBX to find this very nice motel that met our every need! Great place to stay with extremely nice folks. It's my new favorite motel. Rooms were well maintained, EXCELLENT VIEW! The beach is less crowded in this area too.

When we arrived there wasn't anyone at the front desk and had to wait 30 minutes for the clerk to return. That was the only hang up that we had. Get a third floor room so that you can view the ocean. Rooms could use a little updating. It is nicer than some of the other local motels in the area. The location is perfect to travel up and down the OBX. Grounds are kept well and a very short walk out to the beach. Will stay here again.

That's the only thing that our next door neighbors were missing, but we shared. There are always a few thngs that need work in a hotel but all in all was a great place to stay. Rate was reasonable, Room was roomy, comfortable, clean and bright. Room had a 4-cup coffeepot, microwave and small refrigerator that all worked well. Internet worked just fine for my needs. Back deck was comfy too. I dont usually stay in hotels with outside entryways but this one was totally safe and comfortable. Will pick it again when I return to Nags Head! Non smoking room and the AC didn't stink when I turned it on! (We did not stay in room 101 like previous review.)

I traveled with my sister and my 2.5 year old niece. We had a room on the third floor, which had a beautiful view. Unfortunately the balcony was too small to be comfortable as they had plexiglass windows surrounding it. Oh well. Beach access was right there and the pool was nice too. Front desk staff were less than friendly, to say the least, but the room was very clean and super cute. Having a fridge in it was PERFECT. Location was fantastic- close to the things we wanted to do.

I'm sorry, they do not.
