We had a wonderful experience at The Islander... After a horrible at a place rigt down the street. We called to see d they had a room after 9 and they were still open and happy to help us. We got out room key and we were talking about dinner, the lady at the front called and asked about places that would be open for dinner so late. She wet above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. The room was very nice, clean and quiet. We will be visiting this place again soon. Very please all the way around! A great place to stay!!

So I wanted to find a hotel on the beach, but we were on a budget. I wanted a clean decent room with a kitchenette so I could cook & eat cheap. I came acrossed the islander & the price was great! 100 bucks a night with a pool, and a beachfront room! I was excited, but a little nervous. I saw some pictures prior to booking, but I still didn't know what to expect. When I got there I was very very pleased! The kitchenettes are on the ground floor. I already knew that, and you can't see the ocean from there because of the sand dunes. Two days into our trip I realized we hadn't even used the stove, because we had been grilling out. I realized I'd rather have the view from the 3rd floor. I called the front desk & asked if we could move up since it was the same price. They gladly switched our room & acommodated our request. The third floor has a fridge and a microwave, but not dishes. Since we didn't have any silverware, bowls, or plates they offered to let us use they're dishes upstairs. They even brought them up to us by stairs!! The grounds of the hotel is awesome! Beautiful flowers, a hammock swing, heavy duty wooden picnic areas, grills, great walkway right to the beach, beautiful & clean pool. Eugene, the groundskeeper is awesome! He works hard and is great to chat with. He even gave us a half a bag of charcoal! Housekeepers are great too. They talked to us, and always asked if we needed anything. I saw the housekeepers cleaning. They bleach the tubs, and clean everything professionally. The one thing i didnt like was the ground floor musky smell. It must be the fact that it's on the bottom & gets a lot of moisture. However, it was very clean! Its a little outdated on the interior but who cares? It's a great place to stay & I will be back with my family!

Nothing fancy but the Islander is affordable and allways does the job for me.They are a clean place with a very nice pool and pool area. The owners are nice and they are oceanfront. You are not paying 5 star rates so there is no need to complain when you dont get a 5 star resort.I will be back to the Islander and have no problem recomending it to anyone else.It is a very relaxing place at the beach for a long weekend or a week stay.

Just spent 5 nights. I will be making this an annual trip and stay at the Islander. Definitely request a room on the second or third floor!!! Great Views. First floor is just a view of the sand dunes. Rooms are dated, but clean, loved the balcony. Soooo close to the beach, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and nice pool. Great location in the middle of OBX! Would highly recommend this place for families too!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad we came across this gem. I've stayed at a place not far from this motel for literally 3 times the amount (and was no better). This place has beautiful landscape, very clean and nice sized rooms, great view of the ocean, affordable price and a nice pool. Staff was friendly. They don't provide breakfast but that's a quick fix, the Dunes Restaurant is right across the way or bring your own oatmeal and microwave it. The only small complaint if there was one was the balcony. It's quite blocked off so sitting out there with the air conditioner running was hot and smelly. However, from our third floor room, we had an awesome view out of our motel room of the ocean. We'll definitely be back to this great motel!

My 13 year old and I went to the Outer Banks with no reservations and no expectations. I had done some research on places that had availability. We wanted to see exactly where they were located, what was around. There was a place in Kill Devil Hills that we looked at and when I called to see if we could reserve a room for a Thursday and Friday night we were told "I'd have to charge you for three nights since it's a weekend". I declined. I called The Islander Motel and asked about the Thursday/Friday possibility and she started listing rooms options that were available. Ten minutes later we were there checking in to a third level room with a great view of the ocean and two full beds. They do have a three night minimum on weekends but she said if someone shows up with no reservation and wants two they will never turn away business. We had one minor snafu getting stuck out on our balcony (the door latch was off kilter) and I had put the deadbolt on the room door. The staff was very kind when I called from my cell phone to say we were stuck out on the balcony. I eventually yanked the door over and out and got the latch to open. The maintenance man immediately came and replaced the door knob and latch set on the balcony door. The room was nice and clean. The beds were very very comfortable. We did have to turn the temp down to 66 in the room to cool it off at night to sleep but it never felt like it got all the way down to 66. We slept well though. The pool is a great amenity and heated. We were the only ones in it both days. Every staff member we met (lots of cleaning people and maintenance people on site during the day) were very friendly. Front desk gal was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. We walked to breakfast both mornings. Rooms are quiet and there are a variety of configurations, king bed, two queens or full, some with kitchenettes, some with just a fridge, some that are pet friendly. There is a luggage lift if you don't want to carry it up the flights of stairs. Love the beach access from the property on one side of the building or the public access on the other side. The grounds are very nice with lots of plants and flowers. There were a few groups of fishermen staying at the hotel as well as families. All used the grills and picnic tables on the property. We saw ducks and bunnies that hang out on the property. We will definitely stay here again when we travel to OBX. We'll even make reservations before we arrive. If you're looking for clean, comfortable, affordable lodging look no further than the Islander Motel.

We stayed a couple of nights with our children and will probably stay here again. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Room was a little dated but nothing to complain about. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and kids loved the heated pool. For the price hard to beat being right on the beach and so close to so many things in Nags Head.

Our first family trip to the Outer Banks, we chose The Islander motel. We visited last month. We stayed on the 3rd floor. Room was very clean. Bathroom was smaller than I like, but clean. Mini fridge kept things cold. Wifi was slow at times. We originally only booked for 3 nights, but enjoyed our stay so much we stayed a 4th night. Maid service was great. When we returned each day, room was spotless and always plenty of towels and clean sheets. Literally just steps from the beautiful ocean. Only negative thing was our balcony door was really tricky...the lock acted up a few times. Beautiful landscaping. We had a great time and we will definately stay here again next summer!
