Just visited again after 2 years.....still great! Clean room and bath. New hurricane shutters. Room could use new wallpaper, but otherwise just the same cozy room as ever! Pool was lovely and clean, uncrowded after Labor Day. Staff remembered me by name! Always enjoy coming here and will return again in the future. Price is very reasonable for oceanfront. Facebook page has great photos! Thanks Islander!

We were in the off season so got an unbelievable price. We were so impressed with the room size, fridge, microwave, free wifi, heated pool and beach access. This place is nothing fancy, lacks indoor hallways and electronic keys...things I'm more accustom to...but it MORE than met our needs and we completely enjoyed our stay. If we are ever back in the Outer Banks we will stay at the Islander Motel for sure!

After carefully researching and reviewing motels, I chose The Islander Motel for our first stay to the OBX. I was very surprised to even be able to find a room on such short notice (6 days prior to going) during prime vacation season, but thankfully they had some vacancies.

I was informed that the only slight inconvenience would be that we'd have to change rooms. On our first night (Thurs) we had a room on the 3rd floor with 2 queen beds and then for the remainder of our stay we had the room next door with 2 double beds. Both rooms thankfully were on the 3rd floor with wonderful views of the ocean.

This is a family owned motel and definitely an older one, the room keys are actual keys which I haven't seen in quite awhile. This isn't The Ritz Hotel so if you're looking for an upscale place to stay you'll be disappointed if you stay here. If you'd like a comfortable, clean, reasonably priced place to stay right on the beach, then this is the place. The property is immaculate with beautiful plants and flowers, places to sit and relax or even areas to grill with picnic tables and umbreallas. There's some slight imperfections in the rooms where paint could be touched up and bathroom faucets replaced but these things really didn't matter to us. Everyone we encountered working there was pleasant, accomodating and helpful.

The rooms are decorated in a slight beachy type theme (seashells on the bedspreads), there's a TV with a decent amount of channels. The rooms we stayed in had a coffee maker, small dorm sized refrigerator and a microwave. There are also small enclosed patios with screen windows, off each room that contain 2 plastic chairs and a plastic table, nothing comfortable about those chairs! The patios don't seem to get any attention from housekeeping, they are very sandy, dusty and somewhat grimy. The motel has a smaller sized built in pool with a good amount of very comfy lounge chairs around it, plus a surprising amount of pool toys for children. There is a short walk way that takes you to some wooden stairs and a small boardwalk right onto the beach.

Their parking lot isn't huge, so one vehicle per family is adviseable. They also do not allow pets. Their check in time is 3 p.m. and check out is 11 a.m. The office closes at 9 p.m. so you need to communicate with them if you're going to be checking in late. There are NO elevators at this motel, so if this is an issue you'd need to stay on the first floor in the lower priced rooms (due to the lack of ocean view). They have an ice maker on the second floor and a soda machine on the first floor.

There are plenty of local restaurants and attractions close by. We would definitely stay at The Islander again whenever we make another trip to the OBX! Highly recommend it!

We went right after Hurricane Irene and some parts had been devastated. We delayed our trip by one day due to road closing. When we arrived, it was amazing the cleanup this hotel had done to make ready for guests and it was greatly appreciated.

On a whim, I decided it would be nice to spend the 4th of July in Nags Head. I read positive reviews about the Islander and called last minute---2 weeks before the 4th. We got the only room they had left. Having never been to Nags Head I feared our motel would be dirty and unsuitable, however we were pleasantly surprised! The landscaping was beautiful, the rooms were clean, and we were right on the beach which was a big plus with having two children in tow everyday. The pool was nice and the beach was hardly ever crowded. We drove around and looked at other motels in the area and decided ours was the nicest! We are making plans to go back this summer---can't wait!

The staff is very personable and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are NOTHING fancy and the furnishings dated, but our room was very clean and spacious. We had a partial view room and was impressed with the view. The beach access couldn't be easier - just steps away from the sand!! The pool area is nice and clean and offers a couple of tables with umbrellas, plenty of lounge chairs and a simple pool. The grounds were lovely. You can tell much pride is taken in this small Hotel. We loved it and we'll be back again!

This small motel is located directly on the beach at Nags Head, NC. They have about 25 rooms including several with full kitchens. What sets it apart from a lot of the other older motels is the care and upkeep, especially the lovely grounds. Beautiful flowers, trees & grass. The swimming pool is a wonderful place to relax. (Other motels have pools in the middle of the parking lot – not this one). Easy walk to the beach which is just beautiful. You can tell this is a family run motel. The staff is very friendly and has been there for years.

Our room was adequate with comfortable beds. We also had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker with coffee and a large flat screen tv. Because this property is older, they have the air conditioner in the wall. It works great but spoils relaxing on the patio/balcony. (In July you definitely need the air conditioner on) After our first visit years ago, we now opt for ground floor, where you can move from the patio and enjoy the grounds. However, there is no ocean view due to the high dune. There is no elevator in this three story building, so this works for us. We have stayed here many times and would stay here again - but only on the ground floor.

This is our second year staying here and we love it. You don't need to roundup a posse in order to afford to stay here. There is a range of room rates and the amenities meet our needs. It is an older facility, but very well maintained; and the owners, who also are the on-site managers, are friendly and attentive.

I booked this room based on some good reviews, lower price, & the fact that we were staying only 2 nights. If you simply want a cheaper place to sleep close to the beach, this is the place. I would not stay again because the whole room seemed damp (even the bed spreads). Our 3rd story deck was encased by weathered glass & provided only a partial ocean view through a small opening in the glass. The room air conditioning vents to this deck, making it impossible to enjoy sitting for a few minutes. The room is very dated (70's) but did have a good shower & the beds were pretty comfortable. There is no elevator. It is close to the beach & the grounds are pretty well kept. The staff was friendly & helpful, but like Andy told Gomer... "Don't over expect!"
