Did a last minute booking and after looking at options and reviews we opted for 3 nights at Tar Heel Motel. Beach access literally across the street and walking distance to both convenience store and decent dining digs. And the Motel was as nice and clean as the reviews said.

This is remodeled beach motel. It’s not fancy, but clean. We didn’t have any trouble with noise like other reviewers ; however the ac was on the whole time. Beds are hard but not unbearable. The location is great! The room was we had was the Yellow Fin decorated nicely had all we needed and it was nice not having a key to worry about losing on the beach. Don’t be scared of the outside, the inside is much better when you go in!

We spent the Memorial Day Weekend in Nag's Head. We wanted to bring our little dog with and so many of the other hotels/motels had outrageous pet fees if they would take them at all. We found Tar Heel perfect for our needs. Clean newly updated motel. Easy to check in and out. We had great neighbors that were all quiet and seemed to take be responsible pet owners. We could easily walk across the street to the beach which was very useful when you have small children. I liked having a decent sized refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave and Kuerig to help us with our breakfast as we have early risers. We never had to use housekeeping but I can see how not having a access can be frustrating to other guests. We had to be patient around 5pm for showers as it seems the hotwater heaters took a long time to recover from everyone showering after coming home from the beach. The only other reason we did not give and Excellent rating was the small parking lot. Once you got more than a couple large 4x4 trucks parked in the lot it made it challenging to turn around to leave the lot. But overall it was a great stay!

Pros: Clean, easy walk to beach, a couple of restaurants, and outlets, inexpensive, pet friendly, room set up with fridge, microwave, toaster oven and keurig. Cons: Beds are hard(for my liking), can hear thru the walls(person next door had a dog that literally barked continually all day/evening and after 3 phone calls to mgmt, they finally got dogs owner to take the dog with him when he left the room), access to mgmt after hours for needing things like towels, etc is very limited. We needed a couple towels around 8am to shower and come home. We were told housekeeping wouldn’t be there until 9 so no one could help us. I’d probably stay here again, would plan ahead for needs like towels, etc as it’s definitely not like staying at a Hampton Inn, etc where you have access to staff 24/7.

This little motel is right across the street getting the beach and within walking distance to several restaurants and a fishing pier. Rooms are cute and clean and it was cheaper than the chain hotels. In-room appliances look brand new. We booked two rooms and one was missing a table lamp. The other was missing a trash can and a shower curtain liner. The front desk person wasn't able to locate a trash can and seemed unfamiliar with the property but she was very nice. It got pretty loud both nights as you can hear everything from the rooms next door and when people are outside the rooms. We did have trouble with one of the doors not unlocking; we had to pull the door handle towards us while typing in the code. Overall a decent stay.
