Upon arrival my first impression was very uncomfortable. The place is less than 100 feet from the busy road. The entrance to check-in was not clearly identified. There were toys, chairs, trash and a general appearance of a backyard rather than a business. There was nothing clean, warm or inviting to the entrance or the office. The office too was a mess. I asked to see the room. Very sparse.! I told the front desk (?) person to cancel my reservation; that I would not stay. She questioned my decision.
Checked in. No issues. Room not great but ok for the price. Friend comes over at 5pm to get ready to go to a wedding with us. Mrs Patel goes crazy and says she is calling the police because we are violating "the rules" Starts yelling and threatens to call the police. No such rules prohibiting visitors posted. According to the locals she has quite the reputation and stays glued to her comprehensive video system day and night. While we were there she went off on another family who were traveling in two vehicles and thus used two parking spaces. Once again there is nothing posted anywhere about the place only allowing a single vehicle per room. Avoid this place
Management appears to be from India. Violates American law. Not disability friendly. Does not allow service animals. Local residents do not have kind words to say about this place. It turned out to be a blessing because we got a room across the street that was so much nicer than this place can offer.
What a lovely place to stay! It’s truly a smaller mom and pop facility, maybe 20 units. Rooms are clean and simply furnished. The front desk is so accommodating, friendly, and welcoming. True southern hospitality.
Inside the room, nothing fantastic, but... the outside just makes you feel welcome and is a comfortable setting. You WANT to sit outside at this motel. From the rocking chairs out in front of all rooms to the Fire Cistern near a covered gathering area with tv and plenty of sitting area. My wife and I spent the whole evening after dark outside enjoying it. The proprietors were very welcoming and accommodating. If the room itself had some updates, I would give this motel a "5".
This road side motel is located near both Maggie Valley and Waynesville. While it is dated, it is very clean. The rooms are not large but they are comfortable. The rooms have AC, microwave, and refrigerator. The furniture is nothing fancy, but all serviceable. They do have a pool, but we did not use it. Just as a caution, it is very close to a busy major road used by cars, trucks and motorcycles. If you are looking for a good center point to see and do things in the Maggie/Waynesville area at a reasonable price, the Laurel Inn is for you
We were unable to get a motel close to WCU for family weekend, but this was a nice choice in spite of the 30 mile drive. There were plenty of nice restaurants near. As other reviewers noted, the motel is older but quite clean attractive, and comfortable. Since we only slept there, and were out all day, this was a nice, economical choice. We love this area of 'mom and pop' motels and restaurants.
Older motel but very clean. All amenities you need. Comfortable bed. On a busy highway but the noise was not bad in the room. They do have a pet friendly room. They have coffee in the room but do not serve breakfast. Would stay their again. I thought the price was good for this motel.
This is a cute "ma and pa" motel with kind of homey furnishings and decor that looks fairly recent. There are cute little decorations and rocking chairs outside. The owners run the business and are friendly and able to give advice regarding local nearby restaurants. Not the luxury of Hampton Inn, but more personality! We would stay here again if visiting Maggie Valley.
PROS: Great location, the cute set up of the porch area with the rocking chairs, roses, etc. (We were there on a rainy night and it was nice to be able to sit outside and watch the rain), screen doors that allow you to open them up for fresh air, good a/c, knowing that the keepers actually live on site and have a stake in making sure your stay is good. Cons: The hotel is located right on the highway so there is some traffic noise; however we didn't hear it at night so not a con for anyone that is an average to heavy sleeper, it is older so there aren't as many outlets as one might like but definitely not a deal breaker for us, hard beds with TERRIBLE pillows, small rooms in comparison to hotels like Hampton/Comfort Inn, etc., ultimately its age is getting the best of it. The bottom line= Would I stay here again? Maybe. That pillow and bed were really pretty tragic and I'm not the type to take my pillow with me on vacation. If you don't/can't sleep well somewhere it seems counter intuitive to stay there. For me this is the kind of inn that you spend a night or two in and then make your way down the road. If you are looking for bigger, newer, amenities, etc. look elsewhere.…
