Detailed Reviews
I was so scared to stay here after reading all the negative reviews. It was a waste of worry.
The checkin process was by supposed North Carolina COVID standards and was the worse one of the 4 recent stays we have had. It seemed disinterested and impolite.
We received Fox Run Unit 320 which was perfectly clean. Ours was a stand alone unit like a small cabin that was easily accessible for my husband. Easy parking and no stair entry. It was modernized with corian like countertops and had a fireplace which we could only burn Duraflame logs. You need to bring them along.
There is a nice deck off the main level dining area. It was great having the sliding door open once we repaired it.
The linens are very nice and plentiful. There was a supplemental wall heater in the lower level master suite. The master has a whirlpool tub and deck out to the woods.
Regarding kitchen supplies there is no salt or pepper. There are knives but they are extremely dull, serrated terrible for chopping cabbage for coleslaw. There is a sharpener that doesn’t really sharpen serrated knives. There are no serving bowls.
I do not like that they charge for miniature golf ($5 I think). Currently the dressing rooms are being remodeled and the indoor pool/hot tub reservation system is cumbersome.
There are charcoal grills nearby but I didn’t see any charcoal so bring your own charcoal and starter, etc.
The resort is somewhat isolated and remote from groceries. There is a new Ingles with gas pumps in outer Lake Lure. The town is a typical tourist trap with mediocre, expensive restaurants. Even the state park is expensive at $15+ per person.

Rumbling Bald is a treasure tucked away in the Blue Ridge Foothills of western NC. Amenities include hiking trails, a spa (best massage ever!) 3 pools, tennis and pickleball and basketball courts, a fitness trail, 2 gorgeous golf courses, putt-putt, and of course Lake Lure and Bald Mountain in all their glory. There are restaurants on site (We love Legends which overlooks the lake) and all kinds of water craft are available to rent from the Cabana on the beach. That is a great place to get ice cream by the way. We also enjoyed the pontoon boat tour of the lake. Make reservations at the Cabana. On weekends there are bonfires with smores on the beach. The community even includes a dog park and a church. Staff is friendly and helpful. Asheville, Hendersonville, Rutherfordton, Tryon (amazing equestrian facility!) are all less than an hour away. Lots of activity available, but the overall feeling at Rumbling Bald is peaceful, relaxing and laid back. Hard to imagine a more beautiful place for a family vacation, girls or guys get-away, or corporate team building.

+1
The evening of check in at 160 Whitney Blvd UNIT 64, the towels and hard wash cloths were used for sure, how nasty!!…I wouldn’t give my dog a bath with them. After we pulled the dirty sheets back, they were wrinkled (like someone already slept in the bed). we called the Host asap. Although Joe was apologetic and offered a full refund and a free night stay, we only received back half of the money.
We stayed because he asked us to and promised clean linen the for next day.
We always bring cleaning wipes, etc so actually they should have refunded the built in cleaning fee. The Owner played hard ball and insisted that since we stayed , we wouldn’t get full refund. Also “damage fee was included. but there were no damages.
We are still in the Covid days and for a property owner to have a cleaning crew that failed the customers, should be shamed!.

We stayed here with our friends so our the guys could go to golf school. We stayed in the Fairway Villa condo #603. HORRIBLE SMELL, the furniture was so gross, we didn't want to sit on it. The chairs were leather with stains on the seats, stain were people put their heads, carpet was gross. We thought the smell might be a dead mouse so we looked in the cupboards and closets. (The front desk also sent pest control, but could not find anything) The furnace filter was so old and gross. The bathrooms are from the 1970's very low water pressure. Drawers in the kitchen were broken. Just rent some place else.
As for the resort, only one restaurant open and only open somedays. Carryout other days. They only have one person working behind the bar taking phone orders, walk up orders, trying to bartend. We had to clean our own tables twice on the outside sitting area while we were there. Not much to do, do to Covid-19. Only one person in the hot tub, 6 or 12 people allowed in the indoor pool. This part is not the resorts fault though. On a positive note, it is a nice view of the mountains and lake. The wait staff was great on the nights that we could eat at the restaurant.

Stayed in a room at Apple Valley. Filthy, old and broken. WiFi did not work, front porch was rotten, toilet stopped working after 2 days. Silverware had rust on it. The dust under the bed was thick and disgusting. Everything about this place was dated and in disrepair. We rented this suite so we would have a roll-out sofa and the sofa was broken and unusable. We called and ask for repairs and they promised someone would be out, but no one ever showed. We brought this up at checkout and they gave us a nominal, and insulting discount. Also, watch out for hidden fees - these added up to almost as much as the cost of the room. The resort itself was also weak and nothing to write home about. Definitely do not recommend this place.

Disappointed we were unable to go swimming. We saw the sign that stated reservation only and left our name and number at the front desk. We never received a call although every time we drove by the pool it was practically empty. My husband used his keycard near the boating area to ask a local about fishing in the area, the first question he asked was “how did you get back here”. I’m unsure if it was because he looked like he wasn’t from around the area or because he is black. I don’t think we will ever visit this resort or location again. While the staff seemed friendly over the phone I just didn’t get a welcome feeling when visiting the resort.

Stayed at the Fox Run condos. Not clean and had roaches. Impossible to get in Touch with anyone. Took four calls and three days to get bedding for the pull out couch. No option to exchange towels during your stay without a fee (never seen this before)
Hard to get around complex
Pool was dirty and overcrowded and snack bar sold out of everything
Boat dock understaffed
Kayak rental guy was nice!!

Only came for lunch to check out the place. Beautiful location but the restaurant, bathrooms, gardens, and outdoor areas all in great need of renovations, paint, updating, etc. If we had not driven so far we would not have stayed for lunch. We both were very disappointed!!!

We have stayed here once before, 3 years & had a good experience through Air Bnb booking. We stayed 2 weeks ago and booked through the “resort”. Guest services is absolutely terrible to work with. When we checked in on Sunday night, it was rather warm, but we figured the air just needed to recirculate after being turned up from the last guests. We had a later check in so guest services was closed by the time we realized it wasn’t cooling very well. We called first thing the next morning And they said they would have maintenance come out and check on it. We had to call multiple times throughout that morning and finally had to go in person later that afternoon as no one was following up. When they finally did go, they said they had to turn the whole unit off and would be back the next morning. There was no air circulation, no ceiling fans and it was July. It was 85° inside the unit. They did not offer Any assistance, any compensation, they did not offer to move us. We specifically asked what our options might be and if we could move to another unit because it was quite miserable inside. They claimed they had nothing available even though the parking lot of the units around us remained empty the whole time we were there.
Finally, when they came back the next morning, they determined that the unit had frozen up from the previous stay and had to call an outside vendor who actually was able to fix it quite quickly once they arrived later that morning. The outside vendor was very surprised they had not been called in sooner. We brought all of this up with guest services many times and they did not Seem to understand we had slept in for two days/2 nights. We specifically asked for compensation and they are refusing even still. I would think guest services at a place such as this would want everyone to have an amazing stay. The home itself was not very clean, there was old food found under beds and under edges of furniture, we had tons of ants and also brought this up with them, but they said that was normal for this time of year. Overall, it was a super frustrating Stay. We just tried to get out of the house as much as possible. The amenities are fine, but it seems to be getting rather rundown. Most of the areas on site are not very clean or well kept. It was definitely fun to tool around on a golf cart and have Lake access, but we will absolutely be looking elsewhere for these fun amenities in the future.

Response from Mark Eades, Marketing at Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure
Responded Aug 19, 2024
Thank you for providing your feedback. We have addressed these issues with you privately and I am sorry you did not get the answer you were hoping for. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything we could have done differently to fix the AC faster. When an AC unit is used improperly and freezes up, you have to allow it to unfreeze before you can work on it. The issue was solved within 24-36 hours of you reporting it. We solved the issues that were presented to us as quickly as possible and we hope that you still enjoyed the beauty that Lake Lure has to offer. It snowed in Asheville last week so it is possible.
There are several different lodging options here, and there are some units that allow pets and some that do no, I suggest you speak with a reservation specialist to assist in accommodating your needs.
