I would give ALL of the customer relations employees 5 stars. They are helpful and cheerful. Cory and Grace especially went out of their way to help us on our first night with a busted refrigerator! They knew a large group of us were coming and allowed us all to check in an hour early. However, an hour later at check- in time, two computers were still not occupied. It would be nice if we could check in on-line and just needed to stand in line to pick up a key and pool passes. Also, the policies at the Apartments are complicated. We come once a year every year since 2008. . . Our kiddos enjoy seeing friends they haven’t seen most of the year. We make reservations a year ahead of time. When we make reservations we can only reserve a type of room not a particular room number. That is fine, I guess. However, when we check in and want to be placed in the same section (the Apartments are in groups of 20), not even right next to each other so our kiddos can play no help at all is provided. Also, staffing issues and the pandemic have created unique problems. Not having room service is totally fine. We were told one thing when it came to trash and towels and then another and some days nothing happened until we called and then we were treated like we were bothering them. Communication and consistency would be appreciated.…
We first booked the apartment and did not find it adequate or sufficient or homey. So we booked two rooms for our family, at the hotel. It was excellent. Clean, comfortable with lake views. The buffet Breakfast good, with plenty of choice. Conveniently located. Would come back.
Photos and directions were misleading. Last minute, 2 weeks before Christmas, I rented a home overlooking Lake Junaluska for 5 days including Christmas Day. The rental was through lakejunaluska.com and I paid in full when I made the reservation for six (4 adults and 2 children). They were emphatic as to arrival time - DO NOT arrive before 4 PM. I arrived after dark (on December 22nd) to find the very steep driveway did not extend to the main entrance. I had been informed the driveway was steep but was not informed that it stopped at the basement level where a tenant lives and parks. We had rented the main and upper floors of the two-story home. There was room for the tenant's car and one more, and barely room to turn around in such a way as to be headed back down the driveway rather than down the hill into the lake. The only way to access the main entrance was from that lower level, via 2 sets of narrow stone steps. Six people and baggage will not fit into one car. It would have been difficult to get baggage up those steps. I tried to reach someone on the after hours line to no avail. I drove up and down the street to see if there was any way to access the main entrance. I left messages at several numbers and waited for a response. I stayed elsewhere overnight. The next morning I missed a call and found a voice message informing me a neighbor had reported a problem with the plumbing in the rental house and the plumber may have to get in! I called to cancel my reservation and was informed there would be NO REFUND. I submitted a review on their website on December 24 but it was not posted. I received an e-mail from the conference center on December 26, requesting that I submit a review of my stay (they were aware I had never set a foot in the place). I submitted the review per their request and it has not been posted.…
The confirmation emails clearly said check-in would be at the Bethea Welcome Center. Upon arrival, that location was locked up tight even though it was before 5 p.m. Actual check-in was in a totally different location, which I had to hunt down myself - a sign on the locked door would have helped. When I finally located check-in, four employees were behind the counter, which had two computers, but somehow they could not help but one person at a time. They said the Bethea Welcome Center had been closed for the duration of the pandemic. It is pretty frustrating that no one bothered to change the check-in location on the emails THEY sent to me. I shouldn’t have to hunt to find the check-in location. The apartments themselves were in an excellent location and much cleaner than the last time we visited (2019). No frills, but adequate. The pet fee was more than reasonable. Locks on the exterior doors are flimsy, and do not inspire confidence in security. We would have eaten at restaurants on campus, but when we called the bistro, we were told they were closed for private events. Kind of inconvenient, but we enjoyed eating elsewhere - Maggie Valley, Waynesville. Bottom line - we liked the location, Lake Junaluska is beautiful, and we enjoyed the Junaluskans event - but we were not exactly made to feel welcome.…
Staying in the apartment section of the Conference Center is my favorite way to enjoy Lake Junaluska. I am free to eat out or bring food along to eat in. The accommodations are no-frills, but clean and comfortable. I can walk or drive anywhere around the lake and enjoy all the recreation that is offered. Ditch the watch to be rid of time constraints. Just relax.
Accomodations at the Mountain View building, clean and sparse. Property itself is nice but this particular spot is a bit sparse and needs a little TLC. No WiFi, phone, or TVs in the room - which can be a plus. There is also no place to sit besides on the bed in these rooms. The beds are metal "bunk" style beds with very basic mattress, very uncomfortable. Shower, no shower stall in the bath area is very small. Only sink is in the common bedroom space. Lake view rooms at Mtn View provide a nice view of Lake Junaluska.
We decided on a spur of the moment trip to the mountains on Thanksgiving evening. Could not find a room at any hotel so called Lake Junaluaska. They had one room left. It faced the lake. $159.00. Room appeared to have been renovated recently. Very clean. Everything was decorated for the holidays and was beautiful. Hotel was taking COVID-19 precautions. No food available in the hotel except vending snacks. We were given a boxed breakfast. We hope to return when it is warmer or covid is no more.
Just went this week due to reading the sanitization they do there, ventilation, masks. Also the beautiful quiet safe lake and walking trails. We got an apartment so we could social distance, one person in bedroom usually for 2, one on pullout sofa in living room. It worked for us! A lovely time there with walks to Inspiration Point and around lake. Pool, food service not open but we had most everything with us in kitchenette fridge.Hope they find some safe way to use the pool and kayaks this year. This is also a great jumping off place for other hiking and sightseeing. On the way up we went to Mt Mitchell. Next day up Soco Gap and on the BRP in 30 mins. Beautiful views. Went to Oconoleftee homestad. Long easy hike by the river there. Through Cherokee then should have taken the Blue Ridge toward Asheville for more views. Instead more lake walking when "home". The apartments are a little dated so I gave them a 4, would have been a 5 if we afforded the Terrace. There are also cottage rentals.…
They had great service. There was wonderful food and reasonable price. It was a great experience. It had beautiful scenery and quiet. Everyone was so nice and wonderful. The hotel was clean. I would recommend staying here and the price was awesome!
Outstanding event, all the music was excellent--Would like to see a different type presentation for the afternoon session. Music was excellent, especially the Junaluska Singers. We plan to attend next year! Dates?
