If you’re like me, you read the bad reviews first. I’d like to respond to some folks criticisms. Yes, the beach has experienced storm erosion. The entire OBX has. Fortunately, it has been restored to some extent, but not the incredible depth it once had. It’s still a great beach, and the area has lots of shopping, tons of restaurants, and plenty of fun activities to do from historic to sports to nature attractions. The best kite flying in the country is here. Go to Kitty Hawk Kites and get a two-line kite. They are easy to fly and GREAT fun!
It’s true, you have to go over a walkway over the dunes to get on the beach. The dunes protect the entire area and its buildings from storms and further beach erosion. Please don’t walk or play on them. (The plants are fragile, and their root systems are what hold the dunes together in a storm.)
True, there is no public transportation. But then again, it’s a really rare beach town that does.
The fire alarm doesn’t go off for no reason. It goes off because someone accidentally has a small stove fire, or causes heavy kitchen smoke (cooking burgers is famous for this). Kitchen fires can become serious quickly. When the alarm does go off, we meet in the parking lot and chat with each other. Get to know your neighbors, thank the fire department, and watch the kids enjoy the fire truck. It only takes once for everyone there that week to learn to be mindful of opening doors if the cooking gets smoky.
I agree, the dumb waiter could use an update with a door on it, so things can be rolled onto it rather than lifted over. Next time I go, I’ll make that suggestion! (It’ll need a way to keep kids from playing on it, though.)
Finally, while there isn’t a washer dryer in the unit, there is a free laundry room. I’ve never used it, but occasionally see someone in there doing laundry.
Although this condo has two bathrooms, both of them were gross. The shower curtains were slimy and have mold. Showering in those bathroom was disgusting.
At two different times, we saw what the locals call “water bugs” in the living room, they are about 2.5 in, they came from a hole near the door to the balcony, those bugs scared the heck out of us. Unacceptable.
There is only one elevator in this property and it’s located in the complete opposite site to where we were staying. The elevator is old and slow. Many time we chose to take the stairs, about six flats of them, and carrying all the beach stuff, it was not an easy task. Again, unacceptable.
At night time, it’s very dark in the building, the lights are very dim.
The only new thing in this condo appears to be the carpet in the bedrooms.
The only positive thing about this property, it’s the location, being very close to the beach. Other than that, this place is definitely not worth the money we paid for it.
Its awful. Beds are horrid. Kitchen totally outdated.
My Dad owned a week when we were kids in the 80s. Carpet still green. Same pictures , towels old.
Whoa. Totally gross. Yes you can wash your clothes but the towels are dry rotted.
To stay here their is No covis sanitation. Guest clean it themselves
"Old building. The quality of the condo we stayed at is unhealthy. Not a comfortable place to stay, especially if you have children. "Read full review
