I stayed at the Colonial Pines Inn (in the separate apartment area) and had a great experience. The rooms and bathrooms were clean (and I'm a clean freak, so my expectations are high) and the beds and living area were so comfortable. Donna, the innkeeper, went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. My daughter's favorite part of the experience was the super-friendly outdoor cat that came to visit her every morning. ;) We will definitely stay here again if we visit Highlands in the future.

We are frequent visitors to the Highlands area (since mid-1970's), and have stayed at many inns and rental cottages in this region. This was our first stay at Colonial Pines (but hopefully it will be just the first of many). Donna and Chris are perfect hosts, and have been in Highlands since the 1980's - so they really know the area and have recommendations for everything from restaurants to hiking trails. The home itself is beautiful, and I don't think I've ever stayed in a place this CLEAN. The Inn's location is ideal, and you can walk to the Kelsey Trail trailhead. We chose the Audubon room which is very "light" and has a nice view of Satulah mountain. We are avid hikers, so each morning after one of Donna's delicious breakfasts (which served us as breakfast and lunch) we were out on the trails. Upon returning in the afternoons, we loved the porch chairs and swings, and the chairs in the side yard looking out at Satulah. Grounds are so nice, and there's plenty of room to find a quiet spot to read or watch the birds/rabbits. Sherry each night is a really nice touch too. I'm a light sleeper by nature, and the inn was very quiet. I didn't hear a single thing, and slept great each night. I am not historically a "B&B type of guy". But this place is so incredibly nice, and the owners are so welcoming, that I felt compelled to write this review. As a final note, all the other guests that we met were very down-to-earth, and we really enjoyed talking with them over breakfast. There are certainly other choices for accommodations in Highlands - but I have not found any better at any price.

We stayed this weekend at Colonial Pines for a much needed long weekend to unwind, relax and disconnect from our busy lives. Donna and Chris were wonderful hosts, and the property is beautiful. Clean rooms, large wrap around porch with plenty of rocking chairs, cozy tea and snacks all day long, and walking distance to Main Street. We couldn't ask for anything more! We left feeling recharged and can;t wait for our next visit!

My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway for our wedding anniversary. He made all the arrangements, which is a huge departure from our norm—I am the trip planner, as a rule. But he outdid himself in choosing this lovely inn for our mountain getaway. The home is absolutely beautiful, lovingly maintained, spotlessly clean. It is furnished with every thoughtful touch you could want, snacks, drinks, books, magazines, DVDs. There is a beautiful porch with numerous areas of seating with lovely views. The breakfast is sumptuous and beautifully presented in a lovely dining area, and the hosts, Chris and Donna, are so warm and personable. They are ready with recommendations for activities and restaurants. Our room was quiet and very comfortable. It’s one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. Definitely recommend!

My husband and I stayed last weekend at the Colonial Pines Inn for our anniversary. Everything was lovely. The Inn is very clean and comfortable. I loved the Audubon room. It was cozy and peaceful to rest. We enjoyed sitting on the large porch in the mornings and the cat Zoe joined us as well. Breakfast was delicious and ample. The owners are very friendly and interacted with us when possible. I was able to play the grand piano in the parlor and no one seemed to mind. We had to leave sooner than I wanted, but would definitely stay here again. It is an easy walk to town, yet you have the feeling of being far away. There were delicious snacks whenever we felt inclined.
