We traveled to Durham for a medical procedure @Duke. We needed assistance from guest services after our first night due to a noise issue in neighboring room. We spoke with ALucas (guest reception manager) the next morning. Ms. Lucas promptly and efficiently remedied our issue making for a smooth trip during my spouse's hospitalization. We are most appreciative for her assistance - she is the consummate professional. We ate most of our meals in the Pub and found all of the staff to be friendly and courteous - providing excellent service.
Although the hotel is subdued it is beautifully maintained. Staff were somewhat scarce at the entrance but otherwise it is the same wonderful experience, with extra-careful Covid protocols. Room service and housekeeping staff were terrrific.
We had a great few days at the Washington Duke Inn that included golf and multiple meals in the hotel. Unfortunately, we lost a wedding ring during our stay and feared it was gone for good after our departure, since I can't ever recall losing something at a hotel and having it returned after leaving (particularly something as small and valuable as a wedding ring). To our great surprise, we received a call from the hotel several days later saying the ring had been found in the lobby and they were sending it back the next day. This speaks volumes about the staff and their commitment to the guests.
We love to stay at this hotel. We love the dining, the golf course, the walking trails and the proximity to the Duke campus. However, during this stay, we were placed in a room near several rooms whose guests brought large barking dogs. I feel this is not appropriate for a hotel of this caliber. Those guests were very inconsiderate of others to bring barking dogs and I wonder why the hotel permits it.
I was celebrating a milestone birthday with my family and our tea and dinner experience was phenomenal. The tea and dinner staff were personable and engaging. The rooms were immaculate. However, the experience took a turn for the worst when we were turned away from breakfast by the hostess. We were advised that there was not enough room to seat us because she was expecting a wedding party. Mind you there were other patrons being served. I walked away distraught because I had made reservations. We later spoke with the manager who advised they had room and the hostess still refused to seat us. I consequently spoke with the front desk staff who advised they would have the hotel manager contact me. I am still waiting for this to occur. I am hoping that the color of my skin was not a factor in the way we were treated for breakfast. But when I recall who refused to serve us and who was allowed to enjoy breakfast one can only wonder.…
