Hi, I travelled from boston to NC for official purpose and my company booked a room in ESA 1920 ivy creek blyvd. Initially i thought it should be okay as i have stayed in ESA before, but after reaching the hotel, i realized that its nowhere near like the other ESA i have stayed. The room was completely messy and the bed was not even arranged. There were only 2 bed sheets and were lying on the floor. I had to pick them up and arrange my bed. The bathroom was worse with the tissue holder broken and dirty towels. The refrigerator makes a constant noise and i was not able to sleep the whole night. I would never recommend this place even to an enemy. Staying at the airport is better than staying here. My recommendation is not to book in this hotel at any cost.

In General this hotel is probably the best i’ve ever been too , custodians always had a smile on there face , and will make sure you feel comfortable where you’re at , Everything was great , i definitely enjoyed the stay , room was nice , tv worked perfectly , bed was made neat , bathrooms were always clean , if anything went wrong co workers would be spot on and will get everything situated , Definitely the place to be , the resort is great , people there are very pleasant , i would definitely rent a room out there again . Just make sure you smoke outside so unless you want your room to have a strong scent to it . This Place is Excellent because you dont need to walk far at all if you need a bite to eat or go shopping because everything is only a few feet away .

My wife and stayed at Extended Stay America in Durham, North Carolina. Please read the entire review, as we feel strongly enough about our experiences there to want to provide some serious warnings about staying at either of the two facilities we saw in Durham. I will say first however that the desk clerk at the first location in particular was intelligent, personable, responsive, and proactive on our behalf. In general, the people working at each location were helpful and friendly to us. When we arrived at the first location, which is called Extended Stay Durham University, we were informed that the only rooms available were smoking rooms. Because my wife and I don’t smoke, we asked go inside the room to gain a sense of how it would smell. The desk clerk was quite happy to do this for us- and we very were glad we had asked. What greeted us when we opened the door to the room was absolute squalor and neglect. The furniture was basic, as one should expect in accommodations of this price. But its condition however was worse than anything I have ever seen in any hotel anywhere in the United States. Gouged, scraped, splintered, just plain worn out and broken. A hole in the wall made by repeated impacts of the room door handle had a crude unfinished lump of joint compound smeared over it. The door lock itself was loose. The carpet was heavily stained. There was trash on the floor, left from a previous occupant. The desk clerk alluded to some of the above when he arranged for us to stay instead at another Extended Stay America location that luckily was quite close by. We drove to the second Durham location, which is Extended Stay America on Ivy Creek Creek Blvd. This hotel seemed to be in marginally better condition than the first, and the room was slightly better. We decided to stay there, albeit not happily. The parking lot had trash in it, with the occasional soda/beer can rolling around The walkways and shrubbery also had litter. The third night of our stay we returned to our room to discover that we couldn’t unlock the door. After some time, the desk clerk was able to get the lock to function, so that we were able to enter our room. The fourth night was a shock to me and my wife. Again, on returning to our room the door lock would not operate- we couldn’t get in. I left my wife outside the room and went downstairs to tell the clerk we needed assistance again. While I was at the front desk, my wife called me, saying she’d managed to get the door open. So I left the office and walked around the back of the hotel to go up to our room, and walked past what was clearly a drug deal in the parking lot. My wife told me that while I’d been at the front desk 2 other cars- in addition to the one I had seen- had come and gone, and that this was clearly drug selling. She’d watched it all from the window of our room. I then called the police. The responding officer advised us not to stay there, to leave town if we could. We did- immediately. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT STAY AT EITHER OF THESE PLACES. THEY ARE NOT SAFE. And no- this is not a case of “you get what you pay for”. There is no excuse for a major hotel chain to tolerate filth and neglect, or criminal activity or to radiate an atmosphere of poverty. The corporate response that this review may generate will NOT suffice as an apology. Nor do we expect or want one. Saying ‘we’re sorry….’ addresses nothing whatsoever. Go fix what we saw, Extended Stay America. Then you'll be able say you’re sorry with some meaning behind the words.

My job calls for weekly trips all over the nation, which makes me a good reviewer. I have stayed here about half a dozen times over the past 12 months and I don’t have any complaints. Rooms and premises are clean. Staff is courteous. I felt safe. Within walking distance of supermarket. I would give it 3 stars, mostly because of the modest price, otherwise I would say its almost a 4.
