Checked in to find out the hotel was 30 minutes from the venue I was attending a wedding at. Owner said there were no cabs or Ubers in the area to take me to the wedding venue. I politely asked for refund for my room (that I hadn’t even walked into yet) so that I could try to find a hotel closer to the wedding venue. Owner rudely declined the refund and told me I was out of luck. Extremely unprofessional. Do not book this place if you think there’s a chance you might have to cancel because they have your card on file and will not offer a refund. Extremely rude ownership and overall unprofessional. Find a different place in the area to stay.
My husband wanted to get away for our 11 year anniversary. He had made a reservation for another place and when we arrived - we didn't feel comfortable with the place and decided we couldn't stay there. Most places were no vacancy. We went by The Carter Lodge and they had a vacancy. Mrs. Carter was so very nice and let us look at the room before we decided to stay. It was SO clean and neat and the back yard was amazing! It rained the night we stayed and we spent the whole evening under the covered area and had a blast. Will definitely come back!!
One of our favorites. Always accommodating, always clean and neat. And there’s always the beautiful serene river that flows just outside. The only bad experience with this trip was when we were met with the news of mr Joes passing. I had some awesome conversations with Joe on previous visits from everything from motorcycles to the good Lord. But ms Linda is definitely carrying on the excellent tradition that the Carter lodge has always had.
First let me say, I am so sorry for your loss. We didn't know you had lost Mr.Carter this past Nov. We haven't been out and about since stinking covid started, and are just now getting to visit our favorite places again. Your motel being one of them. You have really fixed the outdoor area up superbly. It is absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back in the fall. Would recommend this hotel to all. Nothing fancy, just clean and comfortable with great views of the chimney and right on the river. The outdoor area is beautiful and so peaceful.
My husband and I, both seniors, stayed at Carter Lodge for 3 nights last week. A benefit when you reserve is that you can book a specific room, not just a room type. Because of my mobility issues, we chose a room on the upper level (in our case Room 2), which gave direct access from the car to the front door, and a lovely balcony on the back with a beautiful view of Chimney Rock and the bubbling brook below. Although there are no coffeemakers or microwaves in the rooms (just a mini fridge), both are available on the lower level - coffee mornings only, microwave all day, as well as an ice machine. Our suggestion would be to bring travel mugs for ease in taking coffee back to your room if you are on the upper level. We would definitely return to Carter Lodge.
This is a perfect getaway for someone looking for a quaint, nostalgic lodge with a gorgeous view of Chimney Rock & the Broad River. Went with my husband & met up with some friends there. We all agreed it was a great place to stay when visiting the place famous for filming Dirty Dancing as we felt like we were on a road trip with our parents in the 70's/80's. Lots to do in Chimney Rock & Lake Lure also. The Carters were lovely hosts.
My wife and I spent two nights at the lodge and found it to be a very nice place to stay The room furnishings appeared to have been updated and provided a nice quite place to stay. There are two levels and we stayed on the lower level and had to walk down stairs to get to our room but that wasn't a problem. Extra amenities in room were limited to Tv and small refrigerator (it worked very well). Fresh Coffee was available in morning in small room containing drink machine, etc. The views of the river and Chimney Rock were wonderful. You are close enough to restaurants and shops to walk to them and this is a plus as parking in Chimney Rock is very limited. Compared to some of other places we checked out price seemed to be very reasonable. Wifi service was available but found that service in that whole area was not good at all. Not a fault of the Lodge! If we ever come back to that area for a visit for certainly consider staying at Carter Lodge again. Charles and Gayle Adams, Greensboro, NC August 2021…
We enjoyed our stay at Carter Lodge. It is located at the base of Chimney Rock State Park and close to many restaurants and shops. The room was clean and comfortable, parking was ample. What we loved most about our stay was the view from our patio, we stayed in the lower level and enjoyed having direct access to the swing and the river. We would stay here again.
We had to make quick plans for our weekend getaway. The Carter Lodge was a good price, the room was very clean. We were on the lower level, so had to use stairs to get to our room. The backyard had a swing, patio tables, corn hole game and checkerboard. There were nicely tended flowers around the yard. We could sit and listen to the river below and also had a great view of Chimney Rock. The fridge was small, but clean (no heavy crust of ice in the freezer section). The receptionist who took our phone reservation was very professional and helpful. Mrs. Carter, the owner, welcomed us at check-in, giving good suggestions for local restaurants. They were glad that COVID had not made an appearance in the area and were careful to keep close physical interaction to a minimum. We could leave used towels and trash outside our door and clean towels would be left in a bag on the doorknob. Coffee was available each morning in a common room. It also had a microwave to heat leftovers. The bed was comfortable. There was plenty of hot water. Noise from adjoining rooms was not an issue at all. Parking was right at the street, but there was enough room to pull along other cars and then back into a space. The wi-fi was an issue beyond the owners' control. The tower had been replaced a few weeks ago to another company by town officials. I managed to get online most of the time, although it was a little slow. However, the last morning I could not connect at all. It was not a big deal, but might be to some people. Mrs. Carter had warned me that it might be a problem, and was very apologetic. Overall, I would be happy to stay here again.…
Comfort away from home. Right at the base of Chimney Rock, this lodge is very convenient…. to the park, local restaurants and Lake Lure. The “backyard” offers a relaxing place to unwind after a great day of hiking and outdoor activities. Kudos to the Carters!
