Decades before The Dunhill Hotel would open, local architect Louis Asbury Sr. was entranced by the great Italian craftsmen who created cathedrals famous for their soaring, elegant roof lines. Today, The Dunhill Hotel stands distinct on the Charlotte skyline, an amalgam of American, British, and Italian influences, something those with an eye for period detail can detect. Opened in 1929 as the Mayfair Manor apartment hotel, with half of its original 100 rooms permanent residences, today's Dunhill Hotel is a thoughtful evolution. A full restoration was recently completed, and various on-going aesthetic improvements all share a common goal--to celebrate the original vision of Mr. Asbury, with a nod to the needs of the modern traveler.

We have had the pleasure of staying at a variety of hotels listed on the National Registry of Hotels. The Dunhill in our opinion did not measure up to what we have experienced elsewhere in accommodations or public areas. The furniture was worn and drab, bathroom cabinetry 2nd rate, and window coverings non existent except for ineffective blinds. On a positive note hotel personnel were vary accommodating and the location was excellent.

nicely appointed room, albeit on the smaller side. Comfortable bed, nice furnishings and friendly staff. There loading zone was poorly marked which took an extra pass around the city block to get to, and then there was a forklift blocking the entrance . Bellhop came out to assist as soon as I called for help.

es, five stars all the way for me. I stayed here for 4 nights and loved every moment of it. From the amazing service to the charming vibe of this historic hotel, I am at a loss by the mixed reviews. They are currently going through renovations on some of their floors but even the work crews were super friendly and nice. Service: From the moment I arrived every single staff member I encountered was so nice and welcoming, always checking to see how I was doing or if I needed anything. I absolutely loved the you man who was walking around checking on the different floors and doing housekeeping/cleanup along with the young lady who does turn down service. Common areas: So charming and like stepping back in time, they stay on top of the cleaning, which has to be particularly hard during a renovation. The bar and restaurant were fantastic as well, as I had a great mean at The Asbury one evening. They only had one operational elevator during my stay but that was no big deal, as there are only 60 rooms I believe. Room: I was on the 9th floor and loved my room. It was clean, super comfortable and adorably decorated. Sleep quality was on point and I loved the robes, toiletries and the Ghiradelli chocolate they put on the bed for turn down service. My only disappointment was not having any ghost encounters as I was reading that room 906 is haunted along with the floor. Parking: There is a very easily accessible parking garage with reserved parking spots for guests right as you come in off of 6th. You get a ticket, and you MUST take it in and get it validated to pay the $23 self parking fee. It is $2 bucks more if you do not know that and just stick it in the machine upon exit without validation. I did not know that for three days, but the staff was wonderful and took the 3 days parking off of my room since I had paid directly. Location: right downtown within walking distance of so much. I loved walking a block each morning to get my Starbucks fix. I would totally stay here again if I am ever back in Charlotte.

Great little hotel. Staff was very friendly, and willing to help on a moments notice. Great location in downtown Charlotte. Can pretty much walk everywhere. Highly recommended if you don't want to stay at a big name place.
