Stayed there the night before catching the ferry. Was not expecting much, based on price, but this place was a pleasant surprise. Now don’t expect the Plaza Hotel or a Marriott resort. But this place is clean, and had everything you need in a motel, plus somethings I did not expect. Like the beautiful beach and sunrises and sunsets. I would go back in a minute just for them. For those of you who might never have stayed in a car side room, they are very convenient, especially fir packing and unpacking a car. A few words of advice though...take an extension cord or surge protector; minimal electrical outlets. Also no place for breakfast but they do have microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. Take your breakfast or get anything you need at the little general store a little ways up the road. We got sausage biscuits and ham and cheese croissants to microwave. We had a late lunch at the place next door. Good solid food. Fried flounder was delicious and the banana pudding and butterfinger pie were sinfully good. Would definitely go back if in the area.
Can’t wait until the renovation is finished to see the end result!

I don’t know why you get a couple people writing negative reviews, ‘it’s a motel’ and the room was clean with a few extra amenities. Coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, plus shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. It might be old but as long as it’s clean 👍🏻 & it was a perfect location to get off the ferry & you are right there or to catch the ferry to Ocracoke. Making the reservation by phone was simple & the lady was very polite and helpful, sorry forgot your name ☺️ if I had more time I would’ve spent a few nights here as the beach is right across the street, there’s a restaurant next-door also & horse backing riding. Closed Monday 🥺
Thank you for a restful safe night.
I’m not sure why it won’t allow me to post the Pano picture of the bedroom/bathroom. Will try again later

Cedar Island Resort is a little piece of heaven tucked away on the edge of the Pamlico Sound. Clean and affordable lodging and several camping options make this a perfect get-a-way for families or couples.

You might start your day with a gorgeous golden sunrise followed by a ride along the beach and end it with an intoxicating sunset ride followed by dinner at the Bay Breeze restaurant.

The manager, Dori, has a way of running the entire resort experience with precision and yet still makes you feel like you are part of the family. She is accommodating to her guests and passionate about the horses.

I encourage all those who love a good adventure to head out and ride the beach line while you discover the islands and feel the history come alive. Who knows, you might get lucky and catch a glimpse of the wild ponies!

I was lucky enough to experience all the above and I can't wait to do it all over again!

This could be a great experience but for the little things that become big things.
First, the bathrooms. Not cleaned, one toilet stopped up, and just plain nasty. Showers that have seen better days. I'm not kidding - rather than a drain, there was a hole in the floor for the water to run out.
Second, we pull up to the dump station. Every other dump station I've used has a concrete basin for washdown. This one has a waste pipe extended about 12" above a sandy area with an adjacent washdown hose. The problem with the waste pipe extending this far above the ground - it was higher than the outlet on my camper. All the waste became trapped in the camper accordion waste hose and could not move uphill to the waste pipe necessitating the massaging of the accordion waste line to move the waste out of the line. NOT FUN!
Except for these two not so minor items, the campground has lots to do with the beach, kayaking, and horseback riding available. It could be such a great destination. If you're taking the ferry to Ocracoke, nothing is more convenient. Just don't use the facilities.

This is a motel in off season. If I hadn’t read a previous review regarding the lack of services, my husband and I would have been stranded for food for the night and the next morning. Luckily I did read it and we had dinner in the town before arriving and we brought a thermos for coffee the next morning.

I wish there website and other apps like Trip Advisor would make the remoteness more obvious for this property.

The WIFI was out because of wind and there is no one on the property AT ALL if you need anything. I was told the maintenance person had gone to bed so no chance of a WIFI reset.

We stayed there only because we were catching an early ferry the next morning.

I would advise people to stay in town, avoid this place and drive to ferry early in the morning.

Best horseback riding of our lives with guides Dori and Kenneth. Ted set us up well with the rides we wanted and made us feel welcome. Room service everyday replenishing towels was perfect. Cedar Island Motel is walking distance to beach and riding stables and beautiful sunrise and sunset and ferry and restaurant/bar. Very happy that we spent 3 nights and rode horses 3 times one sunrise, midday and sunset. Also fun to park car on beach sandbar. Very happy we discovered Cedar Island. It was the last and best spot as we went thru the OBX from north to south.

First of all, if you get to the ferry and need a hotel to stay in, you can stay here, or drive 40 miles. That in itself makes it a good choice. But using the word "resort" is not really appropriate. This is a basic motel that is clean and friendly. It is located right at the ferry terminal, and on a little beach. I'd like to decorate it for them, but it's perfectly fine. We will stay here on any trip to Ocracoke and The Outer Banks. OH, and the restaurant, Bay Breeze, next door was awesome. Not fancy but dang good food.

We have stayed at this campground for many years when it was part of Passport America never paying more than $25 a night. It is very convenient after taking the ferry from Ocracoke Island. However it is now $65 a night, quite a jump and a lot of money for us. This was for a pull thru site with beach view which was beautiful. However, the electric was not that great and the roads were bumpy and lumpy. For half that price it was a good deal but in future we’ll be taking the road route.

Our family went on the 90 minute excursion while vacationing in Cedar Island. The experience was amazing! The island scenery was breathtaking. Our guide, Dori, was so nice and helpful. She was very understanding of our lack of experience around horses and her encouragement put us all at ease right away! The horses were gorgeous, very well cared for and very well behaved. It was fun to see bits of their individual personalities come out as our journey together progressed. Until next time...😊

We had a great time on the sunrise horseback trip. Dori was excellent, the horses were obviously well taken care of, and they were paired up well with each rider. She also took time with each rider explaining their horses unique tendencies and what to pay attention to and how to handle them. There were 4 of us and we really did not have any experience, but it was not an issue. The horses were wonderful, knew where they were going and needed very little guidance. The trip itself was awesome, riding along the beach and thru the water. Dori took several pictures which she texted to us, an extra bonus! I just wish some of the pictures were a little closer up but she was on her own horse and keeping track of everyone so I imagine that would have been a little more difficult. This is something I would definitely do again, and would use Cedar Island Stables!
