First off I want to start off by saying this place was amazing and I want to comment on a review posted by Jennifer S. Below. My fiancé and I checked in on Friday and made reservations to the Pamlico Inn which is the restaurant on the property. Right when we walked outside to go to our table a lady was extremely rude yelling EXCUSE ME (Jennifer s) EXCUSE ME, while waving her hand, whose dog is this?!?! (While the dogs were waving their tails and wanting to play) “My dog is extremely scared, someone needs to grab this big dog” (btw this is a medium size pup) so the staff came out to let the lady know, oh I’m sorry this is the property owners dog. Jennifer didn’t want to hear anything, she just wanted the owners dog gone. While my fiancé and I sat inside watching from a distance, Jennifer did not want to drop it. She continued to yell, ruin everyone’s dinner around her. Then a family sat down with children, and she lite a cigarette. So the servers came out and asked her nicely to put the cigarette out. (This is a casual fine dinning RESTAURANT why are you smoking a cigarette!!! Annnnnd with children next to you!!!) Jennifer proceeds to argue with the staff about her innocent dog, and how she is dinning outside so she should be out to smoke. Another family chimes in, she argues with them. Completely unnecessary! No wonder she was sitting ALONE. Anyways, enough of her. I want to give a positive 5 star review. First time we had ever stayed at the Pamlico Inn, and certainly not the last. We are now in the midst of trying to plan our wedding here. Btw Steve(the owner) best personality! Great man! We will be back very soon! Your dogs are welcome at our wedding as well!

Stayed at the Pamlico Inn over Memorial Day weekend. Stayed in the Hyacinth which had excellent views and a nice relaxing beach front balcony. The room also had a TV with plenty of cable channels. The restaurant at the Inn was excellent. See my separate review for the Pamlico Cafe. Views, food and service were excellent. The Inn has excellent sunset views, and kayaks, paddleboards and life vests for enjoying the beach. There is also a small beachfront pool on the property. There are 2 fire pits, one on the beach right at the inn and another toward the end of the dock. It's a very relaxing, peaceful location with amazing sunset views. Peep the pics.

I called early to check on bringing my small dog to the outside section. I was the first one there at the time. The staff was friendly at the time. A large dog came up, unleashed, to my small dog..friendly dog but I do try to protect my little one. The staffer came out and said Oh that's mine, thanks for telling me as she can get a little rough if a little dog starts to make noise. I thanked her and all was good. I had been staying in the area for only 2 days. The previous night I was out a local sports bar that allowed smoking at outside tables. This was indeed a much nicer place. I sat next to the large sand ashtray and was smoking while my server was tending to me. She never mentioned that smoking wasn't allowed. I was enjoying my drink and another, seemingly nice large dog came up to my little one and I asked around who the owner was. All 3 states I've lived in have leash laws. A man popped out who I later learned was the manager rolled his eyes and said "that is the owner's dog" At the same time, an immature patron said "Then don't bring your little dog" I got angry at their insensitive remarks. I will do anything to protect my sweetie and my requests were very nice. The first staff person handled it like the rest of the staff should even if the dog rules there are different. Easy request. I was indeed very shocked and angry. I went up to the snarky patron and told her to never speak sarcastically to a person merely trying to protect her little dog. The manager came out and threatened my removal, of which I should have walked away then. My mistake. I sat there eating my food. I lit a cigarette and he came out with an accusatory tone about "I should no better than to smoke". Well his server never told me and his attitude was completely in appropriate. The server who was great, never stopped me from smoking outside. She saw me smoke. His disposition was mean, compassionless and unfair the entire time.

Response from Steve Nelson, Owner at The Inn on Pamlico Sound
Responded 6 days ago
This guest arrived with a small emotional support dog. We inform guests that well trained dogs who can interact with other trained dogs and people are welcome to join them for outdoor dining. We in no way shape or form provided any guarantee that another dog would not interact with her small emotional support animal. While there was a minor issue with one table regarding her dog, the substantially more serious conflict she engaged in with two tables and our front of the house manager was due to her smoking in a non-smoking dining area. All restaurant areas in North Carolina are mandated as non-smoking by state law. Her conflict was loud enough to draw my attention from an office 20 feet away behind closed windows. After Ms. Shultz's departure, I interviewed the two other tables, a party of two and a party of five, with whom she had loud and aggressive conflict. One party specifically asked to be notified if Ms. Shultz posted a negative review of any type on any platform. The feedback from all other parties involved was consistent and materially different from Ms. Shultz's version of events. We found ourselves feeling sorry for this guest that her perception of the situation was so different from the guests and staff with whom she conflicted. We wish her the best and ask that she not return to our establishment. Steve Nelson, CEO, Cafe Pamlico and The Inn on Pamlico Sound

This boutique hotel is everything you'd love about a boutique hotel! From the moment we pulled up and saw the beautiful gardens out front everything was just perfect. The owner and staff are all lovely people. We stayed in the Magnolia Room which had a corner balcony and a gorgeous view of the sound. It was very comfortable and I loved relaxing in the jet tub on of the rainier day we were there. They have a great little beach and dock. Floats, kayaks, and SUPs are included for use! You don't get that everywhere. We floated around on the sound the first afternoon we were there and it was the perfect start to relaxation. I believe bicycles are also available for use. The pool was closed due to Covid19 regulations, but it looks amazing and we can't wait to come back and relax in it. The hotel is also in a great and more relaxed location near the lighthouse and some very nice beaches. The Pamlico Café attached restaurant was closed for dining but they did room service the entire time we were there. Breakfast is included in your stay and OMG! This is not your average hotel breakfast. Everything my husband and I had (including quiche and a perfect shrimp and grits). Really really excellent! Like the title says: Liege Waffles! So good and so hard to find. If you have never had a liege waffle, you won't know why I'm raving about them (hint: pearl sugar for one thing). If you do know what a liege waffle is this just speaks to the extra effort they put into everything at this hotel. And it wasn't just breakfast. Dinner was also excellent. We had almost every meal from the restaurant instead of getting take out some place else because the food is just that great. We've been lucky enough to travel to some really nice destinations and I think the Pamlico Cafe is definitely top of the line! The fact that we enjoyed our stay so much when we were there for a tropical storm and during Covid19 social distancing/safety measures speaks to just how wonderful this hotel is. We will absolutely go back and can't wait to see the IOPS in all it's glory when the virus situation is over. Thanks to Steve and all the Staff for a wonderful stay, and please give our compliments to the chef!

We cannot say enough about what a wonderful experience we had during our stay. The staff was welcoming, warm, and friendly. Our room was impeccable. The views are amazing. The complimentary breakfast was absolutely incredible. You must try the shrimp and grits. My husband and I wanted to get away for a relaxing, romantic weekend and we got just that. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back in the future!
