Our third stay at the Inn on Pamlico Sound only confirmed our conclusions from our past two visits: this is the place to stay. The location in Buxton, NC couldn't be better. If you are driving on the beach, the ramp is only minutes away, as is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This visit we stayed in the Magnolia room and have decided it will be the room we will always choose for future visits. It's a corner room on the north end of the complex and is very quiet and private. The deck (facing the Sound) is covered, so provides protection from the sun and weather. The room is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Even though there was live music and a social gathering at the restaurant, we could not hear any noise when we wanted to fall into the soft sheets after a long day on the beach. In these times of Covid, this establishment honors those of us who feel particularly cautious by offering room service for meals. This was the feature that pushed us over the edge to keep our reservations, even with an uptick in the Delta variant. We felt completely safe while we were visiting. If you don't want to go out and about, everything is right there: besides a luxurious and comfortable room, there is exquisite food and beverage, a boardwalk with soundfront deck and chairs, kayaks, morning coffee and a completely laid back feeling. Total relaxation. As usual, the most important feature is the friendly and helpful staff - every one of them. If you're looking for laid-back luxury in every sense of the word, this is the place for you! We'll be back!

We stayed in the Jasmine Room and it was delightful. There was a large balcony with two rocking chairs that we made very good use of. Our view was overlooking the Sound. Very southern looking. Could sit there all day looking at that. The staff was great. So friendly! Breakfast was fantastic. The menu was varied so everyone should be able to find something they like. We ate dinner one night at the restaurant and it was delicious. And relaxing. Even though it is a small place they did not rush us at all. We used the pool which was great to have after being out sightseeing. We also enjoyed the afternoon cookies that were available. Overall, it was a calm and relaxing place to stay. The only thing I would make note of is that there is no elevator. If you have problems climbing steps be sure to request a first floor room. The best thing about our stay was the staff. Everybody was friendly and made you feel at home. They had a lot of smiles!

This was our fifth year staying at IOPS in August, and we love it. The atmosphere is so relaxing and laid back. We enjoy just sitting in the rockers on the balcony, looking over the water. We could, and do, watch birds and boats go by for hours. The sunsets are spectacular from the balcony and dock. Everything you need is available. We use the kayaks, SUPs, beach equipment, and pool. The breakfast is fantastic. There’s not really a bad choice on the menu. Chicken and waffle dish was our favorite. The afternoon cookies are a tasty treat. Everyone on staff was friendly, polite, and attentive to our needs. The room is spacious, clean, and comfortable. We can’t wait to return.

We stayed at the Inn from Sunday 8/22 until Thursday 8/26. All I can say is "Bravo" to the entire staff and service. This place was outstanding especially during COVID. Karen, the woman who serviced our room, was beyond excellent. I have to give her a special shout out because she went above and beyond to make sure we had clean towels and my favorite snack (peanuts and chocolate). The whole staff was very friendly and eager to assist. Another shout out I have to make was our to our dinner server, Dallas, He was very outgoing and friendly and his dinner recommendations were incredible. A special shout out the the chef at the Inn. The food was to die for especially the buccatini carbonara with shrimp (one of Dallas' favorites). Last but not least, I have to make an special shout out to Steve, the owner, he went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed for the perfect vacation. We can't wait to return.

I stayed in many hotel my entire life but to my experience this place is just a hype with its reviews and their website. I stayed here 2 days from 31st July. coming to the issues that i faced , 1. my kid got excited looking at their pool when we went there i was doubtful is the pool for us or for bugs as all i saw was ONLY bugs in that match box size pool. 2. They say they have kayak but no one will be there to give you kayak boats, jacket , to help you when u are stuck in middle absolutely no one and you have to kayak in the big ocean which is scary even to look at. 3. Rooms was the smallest ever i stayed in my life so far for which the price is too highh.. 4. Complimentary breaksfast wil be buffet only as far as i know but here it is alacot and they dint tel you about no of items so we placed quiet a few each person and aftr you finish eating they will tell you it is only 1 item per head and we got charged for extra for 2 days. 5. The towels and bathrobes was not even washed and cleaned properly. with all this issue around when ever you wanted to talk to them in reception they wont be available. when i went and told all this finally at the time of check out they said this is not a corperate hotel we wont be sitting here all the time.. wat a clever answer.. So think before booking here once..

Response from Steve Nelson, Owner at The Inn on Pamlico Sound
Responded 4 weeks ago
Vivek, we are not sure where or how to even begin to respond to you. 1. Our pool is EXACTLY as pictured on our website. There are not now nor have there ever been bugs. It is a commercial pool cleaned every day. 2. All beach and recreation gear is now and always has been self service, all laid out cleanly in an area on our waterfront. Your demands that someone help you with kayaks, help you put on life jackets, and take you out on the water was unprecedented, petulant, and childish. You were also NOT on a big ocean too scary to look at. You were on the Pamlico Sound, a calm water estuary. The extent of your ill informed petulant childish actions during your stay are best defined by your inability to even name the body of water you were looking at. 3. You rented two of our most affordable rooms, packed them with more guests than for which they are rated and listed on our website, then constantly complained we could not upgrade you at the same cost to larger rooms, all of which which had been booked months in advance. 4. Our top ranked breakfast is not now and never has been buffet. There is seated and served in our restaurant or contactless complimentary room service. In either case, there are two courses (starter and entrée) allocated per person. You consistently attempted to submit breakfast orders for 2 to 3 times the number of guests in your room and were incensed when you were told double and triple breakfast orders would not be complimentary, again a first in 17 years of operations. 5. We have a 100% sanitation rating. Your statement that towels and bathrobes were not washed properly was demonstrated to you as false when you were here and remains just as mendacious. You were an incredibly difficult guest and were immediately placed on our unwelcome list before your departure. Steve Nelson, CEO The Inn on Pamlico Sound and Cafe Pamlico
