Historic Deerwoode, 175 acres of green, sustainable, peaceful serenity and wildlife preserve along the banks of The French Broad River, one of the oldest rivers in the world. Once a summer camp built in 1923 and closed in 1991, Deerwoode has matured into Deerwoode has matured into a quiet retreat for anyone wanting to slow down and enjoy the tranquility of the preserve. Preserving the vintage, old hardwood structures, many unique old stone fireplaces, and all with lake, river and mountain views, makes Deerwoode a must stop when visiting WNC. Deerwoode is truly one of the most ecological and pretty places in North Carolina, and only two miles from downtown Brevard.

Detailed Reviews
Deerwoode Reserve is spectacular. If you’re looking for peace, quiet, stunning nature & beautiful views, this is the place!
We’ve stayed at Deerwoode on several occasions, in different cabins on the property. Absolutely love it! We relax, my husband fishes, long walks, etc. We like to go into Brevard for dinner, which is only a few minutes down the road. There’s so much to do in this area.
The owners, Scott & Dionne, are the most awesome people! They take care of everything, and work hard to make your stay the best ever.

This place was great. It felt like we were staying in the county all by ourselves. I took my family up including my wife and three sons. We brought our dog as well. The cabin was well done and comfortable. The boys fished every day on the ponds. They have canoes and a paddleboat. My dog enjoyed getting to come on our first family trip. We explored the bamboo forest. It is very convenient to downtown Brevard. We did day trips to Pisgah Forest and Dupont Forest. I would love to have gone in the fall or spring and sat outside with a fire. I will definitely go back.

The resort property is some of the most beautiful land you have seen. The cabins meld into the landscape. This is an enormous piece of property as it used to be a boys camp so the handful of cabins are really dwarfed by the surrounding lakes and forest. The resort itself is several backroads off the main road into the small town of Brevard, so expect zero traffic noise, just serenity. You also will get to see Helen's beautiful art paintings in her studio. There is also a four hold pasture golf course that you will likely be the only person playing since it is for the guests. This is just a special place that is hard to put into words.

Was fortunate enough to experience Deerwood during a travel thru the area. Unfortunately, my journey to Brevard was brief as it was merely a midway point to another destination... but on a whim I booked a night in the "wolfe" cabin. What an experience. Amazing and beautiful! I found myself walking the grounds and taking pictures before the sun set. The cabin was more than perfect with a front porch that you just wanted to stay on for hours. The finishes and features in the cabin were perfect and every detail was thought of. During my brief visit I was able to FULLY recharge my batteries! I will be back...but next time I am bringing my wife and staying for longer!

What a find!! While visiting Brevard to rendezvous with friends, we found the Deerwoode Resort - Bill, Matt and the whole family. Our cabin was very comfortable - the trails were peaceful and quiet, the welcome unmatchable.
We enjoyed the music of Jupiter Coyote, fishing with Matt and his kids for very large catfish - playing cards around our cabin's kitchen table, coffee on the front porch - only minutes from Brevard where we had delicious meals.
Then we rode our bikes around Brevard, toured waterfalls - "Pure Gold"!!!

This is the place to be if you want peace and quiet with your significant other. The "resort" is a handful of cabins and a four room lodge, with a lot of land. It is very casual and low key; we felt like we were the only ones here most of the time. The website will provide a pretty accurate picture of the cabins, the amenities, and the land in general. There is no describing, however, the strange feeling of turning down a side road at the back end of a subdivision, ten minutes out of downtown, and into a huge tract of virtually undeveloped land. Where else could you have your own private stretch of the French Broad River? This isn't for everyone...no maid service, two channels on the miniature TV, no spa products in the bathroom...but also no noisy neighbors, no hotel surrounded by asphalt, no extra fees for every little thing you want to do, and no feeling of being part of a big herd of tourists. We absolutely loved it.
I also have to add a special thank you to the Owners who really take sustainability seriously, in the way they have preserved the land, protected the watershed, and reused the old wood and fireplaces on the site to create a beautiful oasis.

This place is incredible!Once a summer camp, they kept all the trails, ponds, flora and fauna but took out most of the buildings, leaving a nature lovers paradise. Our cabin overlooked the river from the porch and had a fire-pit for the evening.Literally there are miles of hiking trails on the property even going through an enchanting bamboo forest. It's a great place for quiet reflection so it's not for everyone.I highly recommend this spot which is close to downtown but seems in another world.

First off my wife and I are senior citizens. My daughter made reservations about 3-4 weeks ago.they are usually booked up.
The management is very friendly and accommodating
When we arrived my first impression was that the buildings are old and in poor shape. The inside of our cottage was very clean ! Walls and floor are white and was spotless. It was a cold nite, one room was nice and warm, the loft( bed room) had the only tv, and never got really warm. The kitchen was nice but only had 1 dinner plate, we had paper plates so that was ok. We never mentioned any problems
Lots of hiking trails, fish ponds , and the broad river is all on the property.
We will come back probably in the spring before it gets hot.
Again a very friendly place to stay

+1
You can not find a place where the owners/operators Matt Mayes and his father Bill Mayes main focus is to help you have an awesome experience. They are accommodating and helpful and fun. I have stayed in a couple of different cabins and in the lodge and they all offered a positive experience. I loved walking around the property and seeing the French Broad River, shooting hoops in the barn gym and playing competitive games of table tennis with Bill Mayes and his buddies. The location is perfect as you are under 10 minutes to town and if you like to walk it is an easy walk. The only place I will ever stay when I come back to Brevard to visit is at Deerwood Lodge. I grew up near there and want to go back more to visit so I can stay at the lodge as you feel like you are close to nature. It is so peaceful and you get to feed the goats and pet the donkey. Thanks for the hospitality! I went with my husband but would feel very comfortable if I stayed there solo. There are so many active things you can do while in Brevard as well and Matt will be more than happy to give you guidance and help coordinate. We kayaked, hiked at Dupont State Forest and swam in the water hole at Davidson River Campground. If you want to enjoy God's Country go to Brevard and stay at Deerwood Lodge.

We booked a stay here because of trip advisor reviews. And they were right on target. The place is rustic, clean, endearing, quiet, friendly . . . . The grounds and trails are fascinating, the owners extremely friendly, helpful, attentive to your requests, and full of quirky stories about this cabin or that cabin, this feature or that. It's very quiet, very peaceful. Go outside after dark and just look up. If you're a city-dweller, you'll see the stars just pop out at you.
We'll be back next year.
