Nestled in a prime spot that guests adore for easy access to downtown attractions, the Hemlock Inn enchants with its rustic charm and mountain-themed decor. While the inn's cleanliness and friendly service often receive commendations, some guests feel that the value is compromised by outdated amenities and occasional service hiccups. The rooms, noted for their charm and tidiness, could benefit from better lighting and less clutter to enhance comfort. Despite these suggestions, the inn's atmosphere and location continue to be its strong suit.

2nd time I’ve stayed there. Walking distance to downtown Blowing Rock. And within a couple miles to outstanding restaurants. The inn is cozy, clean and the staff is very helpful. Got a good start on Christmas shopping.

Property is very conveniently located in downtown Blowing Rock. A quick walk to restaurants and shops and a quick drive to lots of attractions in the area. Staff is very friendly and personable. Staff is currently not cleaning rooms daily due to COVID, but were available for extra towels, linens, etc. as needed. One reason we chose this place was the information on their website about the way they are cleaning and taking the pandemic seriously. They offer contactless check in and check out as well. If you are looking for a 5-star luxury resort, this is not it. This is a rustic mountain Inn and fully what we expected. We stayed in a queen room which was rather small, but adequate. We had a small, leather couch which we used to hold our bags. There was a dresser with coffee maker, cups, mugs, wine glasses which were nice to have, but left little space on top; not a lot of "landing" flat space for things. Likewise, the bathroom had no counter top to perch toiletries. There is a small cabinet behind the mirror and small shelf above the toilet. Tub/shower and toilet all looked to be brand new. We loved the convenience of a small refrigerator and microwave allowing us to bring a little food with us and for keeping and reheating leftovers. Bed was fairly comfortable, if not firm and in our particular room, felt like it was tilting down at the head. We asked for extra pillows and all was well. There is a nice, big gazebo out front with a fire pit and benches and baskets of flowers. We didn't use the fire pit as it was hot (July), but found it a nice place for breakfast one morning. There are also a few tables on the lawn where we had dinner one night (as we are social distancing and only eating takeout rather than eating in restaurants). We enjoyed our stay and long-weekend getaway in the mountains.

Thank you for your wonderful review of our Inn. We do take the COVID seriously. We try to keep everyone safe. We work hard on all the cleaning requirements we now have for the inn. We do have some larger single queen rooms. Maybe on another visit we will be able to show you some of our rooms. But now because of the restrictions we can not open the rooms unless the person that reserved the room is entering. We are happy you enjoyed your stay with and and enjoyed Blowing Rock. We hope to see you soon on a return visit to our area.

This place is really nice. I mean really and it's right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The rooms are unique and comfy, there's a gazebo to sit under for beverages and snacks (BYO) in good weather or if it's raining plus there's a covered porch outside your room. We were on motorcycles and it wasn't a paved drive but the gravel was packed well so it was okay. The motel is actually a couple hundred feet off the Parkway right in town so there were so many choices for shopping and dinner. We got to meet the owner too. Very nice, very social and wanted to make sure everything was as it should be for everyone. Again, he had to make an extra effort due to the Covid Crap but all was good. The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars is just the price. I'm sure the other motels in the area are probably similar but I'm not use to paying near $200 to sleep.

While the rooms are quaint, the bed is extremely rough. Old pillows and blankets cover the bed. During our one night get away, I broke out in hives during the night. There are only two towels per room as well. They mention make up remover cloths, which still remain a mystery to be found. There was hair on the shower walls and the toilet handle had to constantly be jiggled to stop it from running. Other guests were extremely louD AND RUDE after "quiet hours". Unfortunately, our little romantic get away turned into a night of sleeplessness. There was a screaming child next door to us. I called the desk shortly after we arrived to the room for the night. I was told by a girl at the desk that things would be taken care of. The noise continued well into the night and no one would pick up in the office.
Also if you want food after 9:30pm, you wont find any place to deliver to the hotel. They also offer no morning breakfast. Even after booking a room, to my surprise it was more then what was origionally stated. Almost $150 per night. Over priced for what is offered I should have stayed in the resort down the road. I wont stay here again. Especially now that I have to pay for a hospital visit due to an allergic reaction to whatever is used to clean those rooms/beds if they are at all cleaned. Also, what do you do with the old pillows they use to decorate the bed? How many people throw them on the floor? If you read the review multiple people ask the same question. They state that they "change the linens once a year", im not exactly sure what this means. I would like a refund!

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay with our Inn. We asked the staff if they remembered you on check in. Our front desk manager for Saturday stated he did remember you. He stated "you had problems paying for the room". He also stated "you drove a red charger with stickers". You were checked in to a single queen with a kitchen. (#14). Night desk manager reports that you came in to the office once to complain about the noise from the room above you. She called this room and they said they were sorry and would be quite. We had no other complaints about loud kids. No other rooms had complaints about noise or kids. We have a emergency number posted in the room and on the front window for any problems. A guest can call that number 24/7 and some one is here in 5 minutes. You did not call this number to tell us you were having problems. The front desk closes at 10pm. As for the sheets, towels, blankets and linens they are changed every day. Linens are purchased continually through out the year. We are not sure about "replaced once a year". The bed pillows were replaced less than 2 months ago from "my pillow". All rooms have two sets of towels per one bed. If you wanted extra towels just let the front office know and we can accommodate. The mattress is a Kingsdown firm mattress replaced 2 years ago. We have a 99% rating from the Watauga County Health Department we wear proudly. As for the restaurants, Blowing Rock is a small community. We do not have delivery from the restaurants. We do not have any control over what the restaurants chose to serve or their time schedule. There are a couple of restaurants from our location that serve til 2am but you would have to go to that restaurant. As for breakfast- We are not a bed and breakfast. We do not advertise as a bed and breakfast. We have all kinds for really great restaurants on main street. We are only one building off main street. As for the decorative pillows on the beds, we are not sure what you are talking about "what other people say". We talked to our front desk manager for Sunday morning. She reported you had no complaints on check out. Its had to fix something if its not reported. But easy to write a review afterwards. As for the rated of the room. Your room was $129.00 per night, with tax is 145.48. Our tax is 12.75 % (as per the town of Blowing Rock and State of NC) We quote the room with out tax for a reservation. There are many other hotels, resorts and bed and breakfast in Blowing Rock. Perhaps you may enjoy one of them for next time. --Owner-- PS. This review response applies to your finance review above.

We rented a King Suite during our recent trip to Blowing Rock, and let me just start by saying, you'd be hard pressed to find accommodations that are more centrally located. Park your vehicle when you arrive, as you won't need it again till you leave. The accommodations themselves are a bit dated. We loved the leather sectional with built-in recliner, the faux fireplace and the overall decor of the room with its faux beam molding. The king sized bed was spacious, but despite having a topper pad was much firmer than I prefer personally. The kitchenette is small and feels much like it could be in an old cabin, but it has everything you'd need. We brought eggs and sausage with us and made a great breakfast in the room. The bathroom is straight out of the 50s, but got the job done. The flat screen TV is positioned on a mount perfectly so it can swivel for easy viewing in both the bedroom or the couch. The biggest complaint I have, besides the mattress, is the fact that despite the nice size flatscreen TV on a swivel mount, every channel was a grainy standard definition signal...uggh! Granted, you don't watch much TV on vacation, but when you do, you would like to enjoy it. By contrast, we stayed in a really crappy place in Little Switzerland during the same trip...literally out in the middle of nowhere, and the one thing they did have was a TV with HD channels. I'm sure they have HD in Blowing Rock. This needs to be fixed! That said, we enjoyed our stay, and I'd consider staying there again.

Thank you for your very kind review of our Inn. This king suite does look plain right now. We had beautiful quilts, shams, bedspread and pillows for this bed and couch. They had to be all pulled out for the covid requirements. So I agree the room looks dated, but there not much we can do now. The bed does not have a topper pad on the mattress. This is part of the mattress. It is a Kingsdown firm mattress and only about 3 years old. We will check it to make sure the mattress is not having any issues. The bathroom does look like it came out of the 50s. We did do a bathfitter for the tub and shower. We are going to replace the sink this winter, but theres not alot we can do to it. We will also check on the TV. Sometimes guest unplug the cable box to plug up their devices. Than the cable connector is not corrected. We hope to see you again on a return trip to Blowing Rock.

We just loved our recent stay at the Hemlock Inn! It was exactly what we hoped for and more. It was very cozy, comfortable and relaxing. We had a bit of a snafu on the first night as I booked through Bedandbreakfast.com, received a confirmation email complete with a number. I called the hotel during our drive up as we would be arriving late and I was not sure what time the office closed. I am so glad I called as they had no reservation for us. I was so upset. Upon further investigation Luna at Hemlock Inn showed a reservation made for us one day and cancelled the next. I only logged on to make the initial reservation during which I booked the king suite (#4). I still do not understand how this happened. The next time I will book directly through the Hemlock Inn. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us. They put us in a queen room (#6) upon arrival on Friday night and then transferred us to the King Suite we originally booked on Saturday for the next two nights. The queen room was very cozy and the bed was very comfortable. The pillows were a little hard but we slept just fine. Early Sat. morning they had the King Suite cleaned and ready and moved our things for us. The staff was wonderful! They could not have been nicer or more pleasant. The King Suite was charming and larger, giving us plenty of space to spread out and relax but still be comfortable and cozy. Both rooms were very clean and stocked with nice linens and towels. The king suite had a nice little kitchen that was well stocked should we have chosen to eat in. We did use the refrigerator to house our snacks and drinks. It was a very cold weekend and the heat worked well, so well we had to turn it way down at night while we slept. We loved the Inn still had their Christmas lights and decor up as did the town. This all just added to the charming ambiance! The Inn was just a short walk from the center of town so we were very close to shopping and dining which was so nice. We parked our car and walked everywhere. We had such a wonderful time and didn’t want to leave. We will definitely be back and would love to stay in the King Suite #4 again. Thank you to the entire staff for making our stay so enjoyable!

My husband and I went on a quick weekend trip the weekend before Christmas. The room was perfect for us. Very clean. The staff were great. We did not need new towels or the room clean but when the staff saw my husband out in the parking lot they came out just to check and make sure we did not need anything. The outside was very pretty- Christmas lights! We have told several friends about Hemlock Inn. Blowing Rock was beautiful as usual but even more so all lit up with Christmas lights. We will be back!

I stayed here because my family had a gathering nearby for the weekend. It was reasonably priced, clean, and the staff were all very nice. The hotel definitely had a "mountain charm" vibe, which is not a bad thing in my opinion. It seemed like it was a family-owned business (again not a bad thing!), so they wanted to make sure everything was good with my stay. My sister was in her own room, and when there was an issue with her toilet they didnt hesitate to move her to another room. Additionally, they offered my mom an upgrade for free because they had the availability to do so! As you can see, the service was excellent. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Blowing Rock, so all the shops are within walking distance. I would certainly recommend this place to others, and would come back myself should I return to the area again.

The location is great. No need to drive to shopping or dining. The room is cozy with a kitchenet area. There wasn't space inside the room for a table to eat at, but in warm weather there is an area outside the door of the room. They packed a lot in a little space. We didn't plan on cooking, but if you are traveling and like to cook your meals, they provide some pans and plenty of glasses/plates/utensils. They had a four burner stove and a good size oven. The refrigerator was plenty big for our needs. The bathroom is very spacious. We loved the wood carvings that grace the outside of the inn and the lovely gazebo with a gas fire pit. I love walking in the morning and there are wonderful places to walk without having to drive. Easy check in and out. Friendly owners.
