This place was awesome. My family (wife and 2 kids), went for 3 days. It never felt crowded. The food was awesome and the smore station was a nice touch. The pool never got crowded and the scenery is amazing. This is a really nice hidden gem!

We hoped to find a new family annual vacation spot at Chetola Resort, but it is just a very over-priced, run-down hotel. We stayed in an economy condominium. It was VERY run-down-- pet stains on carpet, foul odor in bedroom, poor entryway lighting at night, broken screen door, smoke alarm hanging off wall, broken fireplace, grass over 8"high around porch. The same trash that was in the stairwell of the condo upon our arrival Friday is still sitting there on Monday afternoon. I have tried calling the front desk several times throughout the stay and have NEVER had anyone answer (I did not leave voicemails when prompted). I had to drive from our condo to the front desk to ask for towels, yet they would not give them to me at the desk. I had to drive all the way back and wait for someone to show up with them...2 hours later. We are confused why it is called a resort that charges daily resort fees when there are no resort -like qualities. It is far from clean and luxurious. They boast having boat rentals and fishing rods/bait as amenities, but there is one paddle boat and 3 kayaks for the entire resort, and fishing rods/bait costs $8 per use. Also, their "lake" is a pond with trash all over the bottom and it was definitely not stocked with fish this year. There are absolutely NO scheduled activities or events to sign up for, as you would expect at a resort. In fact, the girl checking us in looked at me like I was an alien when I asked how we find out about/sign up for activities. All she could suggest was the boat and fishing rental. The nightly bonfires would have been fun if they weren't blocked off for weddings on Sat through Monday. Absolutely no guided hikes offered as boasted on the website. Pool is disgusting- huge clumps of hair floating around. Overall, we love the area and will be back. We know paying so much for an unfamiliar place is always a risk, so we definitely made the best of it, but we would have left a day early if a partial refund was possible. My family will be coming back to beautiful Blowing Rock soon, but we will be smarter and choose a nicer, newer hotel suite with cleaner amenities for less than half the price of Chetola "resort" and pond.

NottiBeth85, We appreciate your feedback, as well as your husband's Google review regarding your recent experience with us. We have reached out to you and your husband multiple times since you checked in on Saturday to offer you a new unit for your stay. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get a hold of you. Communication is key in any relationship and we sincerely apologize for not being able to connect sooner on the issues. We do explain to our guests that each condo unit is decorated differently, as they are privately owned. If a guest checks in and informs us of an issue, we take care of it. Or, we move them to another unit where they are more comfortable. We do not allow pets in the condos and carpets are professionally cleaned on a regular basis. The daily resort fee does include a multitude of options, including Wifi, a heated indoor pool, sauna, and hot tub, access to a brand new fitness center with all new equipment, complimentary fitness and yoga classes, paddle boats, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, fishing rods and bait, tennis and pickle ball with equipment, disc golf course with discs, lawn games, private access to Moses Cone Park with 27 miles of trails, and more. Other guests do enjoy using the lake amenities, so occasionally, other boats may be out on the lake when you arrive. The lake is stocked 2-3x per year (last stock was in April) with 1000- 1500lbs. of Rainbow Trout and many of our guests enjoy fishing there. With COVID safety measures still in place, most of the activities are enjoyed on a guest's own time, as it gives them the flexibility to create their schedule. The yoga and fitness classes are through sign-ups. We added another bonfire pit last year so guests could enjoy them if there was a private event at the main one. Again, we apologize for any confusion at check-in and sincerely wish that we had been able to fix this right away. We welcome any additional feedback, comments, or suggestions. Email us at guestservices@chetola.com or call us at 828-295-5500. Kind regards, Philip Wirchansky Marketing

We had a great first experience at Chetola! It provided exactly the kind of rest and relaxation we needed. We loved being able to walk up the hill and right into Moses Cone State Park! Beautiful! The high level of customer service was consistent across the resort. It was genuine, welcoming, and much appreciated. We needed a vacation getaway and could not have been more pleased with Chetola. There was a sense of kindness and caring throughout our experience as we interacted with various staff. The food was delicious and we enjoyed perfect drinks from the cozy bar as well. We highly recommend Chetola if you are looking for a beautiful and restful vacation destination with an attentive hotel staff.

Chetola is amazingly beautiful and the rooms are very nice, BUT I reserved the Pet Friendly Package for 2 nights. Not as advertised! They say the dog gets a bag of treats. They get a bag with a bandana and poop bags...that’s it! They advertise a picnic lunch by the lake....oh that’s not actually included in the package. You can get a take out and go down to the lake. They have a list of dog names welcoming them. My dog’s name was not on it. When I booked I made it clear this trip was for my dog, that is recovering from brain cancer. They acknowledged it but still nothing. We checked out a day early. There’s really nowhere near the lodge that you can take your dog for a quick bathroom break! I gave it a 3 because it is a wonderful beautiful place, but not for dogs as advertised.

Janedoe10930, We are so sorry about your dog's brain cancer and wish him/her a swift recovery. We apologize that your stay did not exceed your expectations (or your pups). We are happy to hear you enjoyed the rooms and the scenery. Guests with dogs are supposed to receive a bag of treats along with their name up on the pet board and we apologize that these things were not taken care of for your stay. We will pass all of this feedback on to our guest services team. The picnic by the lake is not included in the Dog-Friendly package, it is just a suggestion of an activity you can do with your pup on property during your stay. As for walks, our entire front lawn and around the lake is available for guests to walk their dogs. We are sorry your trip expectations were not met and we would love the opportunity to do better in the future. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please reach out to us at guestservices@chetola.com Kind regards, Tristan Thomas Social Media Manager & Creative Designer

The staff were very friendly and the rooms was nicely renovated and appointed. The location is also ideal - right down the road from downtown Blowing Rock. We had a king suite facing the lake with a lovely balcony that was very relaxing. The lobby, common areas, and Timberlake Restaurant were not as grand as you may expect from the setting and reputation. We had a late lunch on the patio, which was delicious. We had a burger and berry salad. We also enjoyed dinner at Timberlake Restaurant and had a wonderful time. We had an ahi tuna special and the Korean bbq beef. Unfortunately, breakfast was not to the same caliber. The smoked salmon benedict and chicken & waffles were both very disappointing. Due to a family emergency, we had to cut our stay short and they refunded our last night without prompting. We greatly appreciate their flexibility.
