We wanted to get away for the weekend and found a good deal on the internet. We had not heard about this early 1900's gem. This inn was full of charm and character. We enjoyed a regular room (#316) and nice breakfast each morning. The room was clean, met our needs and appropriately decorated. We happened to be there when... More

This place is something. How the other folks rated it so high is beyond me, but it appears to be a quirky bunch. Here is what I experienced as I sit downstairs at 530 am because of the snoring coming from room next to mine. Internet is horrendous slower than dial up all weekend long. You can hear everything in... More

We love old hotels but not everyone would go for the accommodations. They do spell it out on their web page so if you plan on going read the fine print. That said, we had a great time. Food at the restaurant was very good. Breakfast is included. On the down side for some, wifi is not consistent, no phones... More

No TVs, beautiful vistas and a place apart to experience the beauty and tranquility of the NC mountains. Very comfortable rooms and common areas. The staff is a pleasure and makes you feel right at home. If you want to see the starry night without interference of city lights, this is your happy place.

What a wonderful gem we found in the Town of Balsam NC. We noticed a small blue sign for the Inn and decided to venture down the long road to check it out. Upon arriving at the Inn we were thrilled to see a beautiful grand Inn up on the hill. Once inside the vintage charm surrounds you and welcomes... More

The Balsam Mountain Inn is truly a treasure. We were lucky enough to be there for the March Singer/Songwriter gathering. The food was excellent and the performance by the songwriters was a not-to-be-missed evening. It was a privilege to listen to the three very talented songwriters and performers. I can't think of another place where you could have this type... More

We attended the song writers in the round event on 2/14/16. Music/Food/Service/Stay all 5 Stars. My party & I especially enjoyed the folk concert. For $49 a ticket, was a steal. (3) exceptional artists in a unique & historic setting with exceptional acoustics + an all you can eat gourmet buffet. Suite 332 was very spacious & easily accommodated our... More

We spent New Year's Eve and a night more at the Balsam Mountain Inn. I think I might have given it an excellent rating had we not started the visit out with their NYE buffet, which is half the reason our visit was sort of good. The entertainment provided by the four singer/songwriters for NYE was wonderful: warm, fun, and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Read, rest, ramble and romp at the Balsam Mountain Inn! Nestled among lofty Smoky Mountain peaks just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Balsam Mountain Inn was completed in 1908 to serve the highest railway depot in the east. Restored in 1991, the inn now welcomes travelers with 50 cheerful rooms, rocker-filled porches, a fine library and gracious dining. Plump pillows and soft comforters inspire pleasant dreams! In December, 2011, the Inn came once again to be owned by Merrily Teasley, the innkeeper who restored the structure two decades ago. An experienced rescuer of wonderful buildings, Teasley bought the derelict inn in 1990, and her certified rehabilitation effort helped the inn – already on the National Historic Register – experience a rebirth. ... more   less
