We planned a quick getaway with our little girl and able to book at Woodstock Way. This is such a special place. The decor is very cool and most importantly, the bed is comfortable. The views are special. The attention to details shows what a quality boutique hotel should be.

Woodstock is a gorgeous, friendly town with some truly amazing food. Our cabin at Woodstock Way was big, beautiful, and clean, and not at all cheap. So when we found out they charge $50 for a late check-out (I don't think I've ever had that experience before, especially on a Monday in the quiet season), there is NOBODY around to answer any questions (or address any issues) after 5:00 pm, toiletries are definitely not single use (especially with COVID), and we were greeted not by recommendations for what to do in town but rather a list of what we'd be charged if we took anything from the room or lost the key, I decided this would be our first and last stay. Charging what they do, you'd expect, I don't know, some water in the room (like every other hotel and/or Airbnb around), maybe some nice toiletries, or even just a bag so we could bring home our dirty laundry, but nothing.

While the hotel was very pricey, we were looking forward to a weekend in Woodstock. Our first reservation (made online and confirmed) was cancelled as a result of a mix-up and as an accommodation, they upgraded us to one of their residences for another weekend. The staff was very nice and accommodating. But here's what greeted us: on the steps to the house was a rotten pumpkin which had collapsed and turned black. Also on the porch was someone's leftover lunch. Inside was very pretty except that there was a half gallon of opened milk and opened ice-cream in the refrigerator; one roll of toilet paper in two of the bathrooms and none in the third; a coffee maker but no coffee beans, no water (not even at a price); there was someone's Marc Jacobs eyeliner on one bathroom floor and a bottle cap on the other. I'll stop here but the list goes on. 'I've never written a bad review on Trip Advisor but this experience (they did in the end offer a 20% discount) was particularly surprising--especially given COVID.

We tried to extend a 2 day reservation into a 4 day reservation. We were told it could be extended and that we were confirmed. On the morning of the third day we were woken up by someone from the desk (which is not ever manned between 5:00 PM until 8:00 AM the next day, so don't need anything from their "front desk" until the next morning!) and told that we would have to leave because they had overbooked. When the counter offer that they made to us was totally inadequate (two rooms in exchange for the house that we were in) I suggested that, since we were already in the house, they should move the people that they overbooked into some other room(s), there response was simply: "There was nothing they could do and that's just the way we do it!" At that point I had enough and said that we would be leaving immediately - and we did - all before 12:00 PM. They proceeded to tell us that we would have to pay for the room that we would not be staying in and, as of this writing we do not know if they rented it to someone else while they are still attempting to collect a fee from us (their check-in time is 3:00 PM leaving them 3 hours from when we left to collect another fee)! We are still working with AMEX (very cooperative and supportive) to resolve this ridiculous battle. l have had phone and email conversations with the owner and he still believes that, despite the fact that they overbooked and, after we were already in the room, they canceled us out of the room that we had via a verbal confirmation, that I should have to pay for a night that we didn't even stay with them because we canceled within a 24 hour period. At 72 years old I have stayed all over the world and have never been treated so poorly. Usually if you get a bad meal in a restaurant the owner or manager will take it off the bill and offer you not only something of equal value but also a free drink. Usually if you get a bad room in a hotel you will be offered an upgrade - just to keep the customer happy. Not one person on the staff (what there is of it) or worse, the owner offered anything at all but threats to make us pay for a night that we stayed at a much better hotel on Lake George. Stay here if you like but don't expect service especially after 5:00 or 6:00 PM; don't expect managerial sophistication; don't expect any response from management that goes beyond what they believe is good simply for their own bottom line. This was a very unfriendly experience and one that we will never repeat. In short - DON'T STAY HERE!!

The room was beautiful and, yes, we could hear the water but the customer service is non-existent. We stayed for one (very pricey) night in mid-September and found that the approach to service was indifference. Room rates like these should come with both ambience and attention to guests’ requests. The concept is creative but the price point is simply too high for accommodations that ignore a simple request and don’t respond to emails.
