We had 5 nights here. Our room was a garden room. Most rooms are not in the actual hotel. They are in two rows of single story terraced buildings, a bit like a holiday camp. However the room was spacious with an en-suite. The room was very clean, Covid secure and comfortable. We slept well.
I have eaten in many restaurants that claim to be fine dining, only to feel disappointed and let down at the inadequate standards. This is definitely not the case here. I experienced the most perfect service, well presented plates, and most importantly food that tastes wonderful. One of the most memorable dining experiences ever and I hope to be lucky to visit again.
Just had a meal at the Restaurant at the Star Castle Hotel and unless you are a resident there I would not recommend this experience for non residents. As we were not able to book until 8.15 p.m. we were rushed through our meal and were not advised that it was a 4 course meal at £45 per head. The food was good and well presented but we felt we were not welcome and should not have been there. Before we had finished our meal they were setting up for breakfast the next morning, in all not a good experience and would not return again.
We recently spent 2 nights at Star Castle on our tour of the Scillies and very much enjoyed it. We stayed in a very comfortable Garden Room which has a lovely terrace and a comfy bed. For the price I would say that the shower (hand hose over the bath) could do with a bit of an upgrade. We ate in both the restaurants and the food was excellent. My only mild complaint was that the courses were hurried out very quickly. It felt that the moment your cutlery was down the next course was out! However, I’m sure that this is a good thing in many peoples eyes. The price for residents is very good value. The reception staff were very helpful.
Booked this hotel after reading a recommendation in the press. Sadly didn't feel it lived up to its reputation. Lost a day of our short holiday on the way there due to fog - completely unaware that there was a strong possibility during June that our flight would be cancelled (it happened again to others during our stay). Be warned - if your flight from Exeter is cancelled you have to stay overnight at your own expense then be bussed down to Penzance early the next morning to catch the ferry. Our suite (room 30) was pleasant but the door opened directly into the bedroom rather than a lobby, the outside space contained one double seat plonked in a paved, fenced area next to a main footpath that felt like a dog-run, the fabulous views of the harbour were often marred by vehicles belonging to the hotel being parked in the way and the walls were paper thin so 3 nights running the couple next door treated us to a furious row at about 11.15pm on their return from the bar. The food was good but rather repetitive and the service well-meaning but gauche. On our departure our bill was over £1k more than expected - we were charged an extra day rate (£469) and twice for our flights (we had paid for them in full several months before but could not prove this until we arrived home and could check our credit card bill). The Isles of Scilly are magical but our stay at the Star Castle sadly disappointing.…
