Having read reviews, as you do when choosing a hotel for a well deserved holiday, I was attracted to the comments regarding the outstanding views and outstanding it was! We arrived on Tuesday 22nd August @ 13.30 ish, check in was very straight forward and the complimentary glass of fizz was much appreciated. Although our villa was not quite ready, check in is not until 3.00 so we were early, but within 20 minutes we were called to say it was ready. We were in Villa 103 and for a family of 3, my wife and I and our 16 year old daughter, this was ideal and very clean. All you need for room, coffee machine, fridge and brilliant air con!! Our outside area, including our own pool was massive!! I have been to hotels with similar size area which would have up to 20 sunbeds, we had 3. Breakfast was good, plenty choice, hot, cold just a typical continental breakfast, no complaints whatsoever. The staff are extremely nice, always a hello and a huge smile, nothing is too much trouble, a credit to the hotel management. If you have read reviews about the location and how steep it is……well that’s true, you can’t deny that. For us the 108 steps to climb to the villa was not an issue however we did find it’s easier to walk up the road as if heading to the reception. Although the hotel was full, it’s very quiet. If you are wanting a hotel with entertainment on a night this ain’t for you but again reading previous reviews we knew this would be quiet and that suited us. The main town , Agia Effimia, is a 10/15 minute walk and has everything you need, tavernas, cocktails bars, gift shops, 2 supermarkets and a busy harbour. We stayed for 7 nights and ate somewhere different every night and each night the food didn’t disappoint. Food and drink prices are very reasonable and the staff, typical Greeks, very hospitable! I have to say it was the quickest week ever and without doubt not long enough. Apart from walking to Agia, we didn’t venture very far, why bother when you have your own pool and a view to die for?? However I wish we had taken the boat cruise round Ithaca and hired one the Yellow Boats to explore all the hidden coves that can’t be reach by foot. I suppose that’s an excuse to go back! In summary I don’t have anything negative to say about our stay at the Kefalonia Palace Bay Hotel and to conclude, this hotel is an absolute GEM!!…
