Having read a number of Trip Advisor reviews beforehand, it was with some trepidation as to what we would expect upon arrival. The hotel looks very pretty from the exterior; however inside is rather shabby and a bit like stepping back in time but not in a particularly good way. The room we were given was a nightmare as it... An otherwise great hotel, but suffers from an unprofessional and sometimes downright unhelpful staff. The rooms are small but clean and functional, with shower curtains and everything. The pool is fantastic, with immediate surroundings of a palace ruin and a lovely garden. I didn't try the restaurant - I saw the ratings have been low recently. Upon arrival we found... More

We had initially chosen a "standard" room which was very standard. Clean but sparse, small double bed, thin / worn towels with no air conditioning (came with a fan), very small TV. We moved to a superior room for the next 3 nights and what a difference! Large room with a queen bed, large TV, double sinked bathroom with separate... More

We stayed as part of a group and the rooms varied enormously. One even had no window at all, we were lucky and had air-conditioning (room 33). The rooms are adequate, the bathrooms small. Some have power showers, some baths so best to check out just what you might get. By French standards the hotel is OK and has a... More

Needed a wheelchair accessible room so this hotel worked for that. The staff leave much to be desired. There was one gentleman who worked hard and tried to accommodate our English and poor French as best as he could. One woman who seemed like she might be a manager - also lovely and helpful. For the most part, the remainder... More

Very average room and bathroom. Breakfast ok. Service ok. Garden with pool very charming and definitely a reason to endure the averageness for the rest of the hotel. Situation was also good. Outdoor cafe/restaurant/bar were it is ok to sit and watch all the rest of the tourists passing by...

We were staying at Hotel Palais Cardinal as part of a group. The hotel is in a good location, on the edge of the centre and within a short walk of all the town's amenities. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Our room was small and basic. The lack of air-conditioning was an issue because room 24 is above the... More

A reasonable place for the night but would not want to stay longer...bed really hard, no facilities for an evening or early morning drink. The shower and basin leaked everywhere. Nice to stay in a rambling old house but beware the stairs and labyrinth of corridors. Breakfast satisfactory

We were on a cycling tour and this was the preferred property booked for us. The hotel is absolutely fine, but our room was literally tiny and it's for this reason I've only rated three stars. We had to put a chair in the wardrobe to have room to open two touring-size suitcases, so it wasn't ideal for our three... More

I couldn't find a room anywhere up the hill so tried this one at the bottom of the hill in St.Emillion .the room was small, but clean and comfortable. the breakfast was decent, with plenty to eat. St. Emillion is an expensive place to stay, so it was reasonable. I was very upset to learn that on my last day... More
