This historic motel is an excellent choice for families, business travelers, or those simply road-tripping through the Finger Lakes wine country on a budget. The main building was built in the 1880s and still retains a lot of its vintage charm. The back rooms were added in 1950s and also retain the classic mid-century look and decor of a more peaceful and restful time. (We still use metal keys, not plastic key cards). We are more than a simple B&B resort. We provide free Wi-Fi and free parking, but the secret of our success is our attention to detail to provide clean rooms and a hospitable atmosphere at an affordable price. You will find our staff enthusiastic and courteous with your comfort and pleasure our priority.
We offer late check-in, and are open to drop-ins when available.
Oh, and while in Watkins Glen, we recommend you try our small batch homemade ice cream, with vegan ice cream. And for our meat eaters, we have our very tasty Beef On Weck sandwich. It has gotten great reviews. We also offer handcrafted pottery, ceramics and other locally created items. You can also view our active beehive and see the honey, if you find the queen bee you get a free small ice cream.
We stayed in room 6 in the motel. The room smelled like cat urine. The windows were filthy and one of them would not stay open. Thank goodness we were staying only one night. The location is great and the price was right, but still too much for the quality of the room. The check in process was strange; the person scooping ice cream is the person who checks you in. There is no check out and no receipt. No breakfast or any other amenities. We will not stay here again.
I had ice cream from the creamery . The banana chocolate chuck was so good I would definitely good back again . Nice tables to sit and enjoy the area There was a porch out front to relax on also . try the ice cream
I try to review my stay by stating the pros and cons: Pros: It’s conveniently situated a short walk to Watkins Glen State park and Seneca Lake. It sells delicious ice cream and honey. There is live music on some nights. Cons: The website price included breakfast and the confirmation email did not mention that they were not serving breakfast. However, on the first morning we found out that we had to drag ourselves each morning to a cafe or a diner and add between $10 to $15 per person per day to our expenses. Not very honest on the part of almost never present owner. Read other reviews with the same complaints and take them seriously. I should have done it before booking. If you need to check in, you literally have to wait in line for one of the people selling the ice cream to finish and come over. But they were always nice when they finally did. But you had to often wait a good 10 minutes for that to happen. The room was clean but smelled of must or mold when we first opened it. It got better by the second day. The room was not cleaned even once during our 4 days there, nor was the trash taken away. The shower was toooooo small. Most people over 5’10” have to bend and hit the sides. It was like taking a shower in a phone booth. The blinds were broken and there was mold in the shower faucet. Please refer to the photos taken.…
I stayed at the Colonial Inn mid-week on vacation. The owner, who is very personable, has apparently put all his time and money into the pizza/ice cream/honey. The room was musty, and not especially clean. The carpet was old and stained. The windows wouldn't stay open and the sink was semi-clogged. There was no "bistro", no breakfast, not even coffee. The web site promises all these things and hasn't been updated. It also makes the place look quaint. It's run down and in need of a renovation. Try the ice cream and the pizza, skip the stay.
We tried 3 different ice cream places in Rock Stream and the Colonial Inn is hands down the BEST! The honey vanilla is one of the best vanillas I’ve ever had, thank you! You can really tell it’s homemade!
