Detailed Reviews
We booked 2 x 3 bedroom cottages. I found it to be expensive (about $2500 for 4 nights) for both cottages. However we didn’t want to the the chance with booking a large cottage for our group and violate any distancing rules. Both cottages were fully stocked with all the utensils we could use. We enjoyed the barbecue, nightly bonfires swimming and fishing. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful when we needed life jackets and other items for the free water activities. The whole resort was quiet overall and neighbours were friendly too.

We saw an ad for Cherry Beach Resort in the Toronto Metro, and as the prices were reasonable, we decided to book for 4 days in the summer.
Picton and the surrounding area is a fabulous place to visit, and we found something fun to do everyday. Obviously the Sandbanks were a huge draw, and did not disappoint.
The cottage we rented was great! It was clean and neat, air-conditioned, had a nice living, kitchen and dining area, and there were three bedrooms: 1 with a queen bed, 2 with bunks. It had a lovely, large deck, and it was located in a quiet, treed part of the resort. The only complaint about the cottage was that hot water in the shower ran out after about 10 minutes.
The real disappointment is in the amenities of the resort. The pool is very small and would be much better if it were heated. The playground for the kids was OK. The beachfront is poor, and the water is full of seaweed.
During our stay, we had a big storm, and wind knocked some branches down from a large tree near our cottage. While we expected there to be a clean-up crew around at some point, no one notified us, and at 1 p.m., as our daughter was napping, we heard the chainsaws start and loud branches dropping onto the roof. Needless to say, it woke her up, and it continued for 30+ minutes.
My husband called the front desk to let them know that a notification would have been greatly appreciated, but the staff who answered was defensive and didn't apologize for the inconvenience.
We're planning on going back to Prince Edward county this summer, but we'll choose a different place to stay.

My husband, teen son, dog, and I rented a cottage at this resort. The lake was beautiful, the cottage new and modern, and we had incredible views of the lake right from our deck! We got a waterfront premium cottage, which I totally recommend if you want to be on the water. We rented a boat and kept it for our entire stay, and just docked it at our dock at the bottom of the stairs of our cottage. We caught some walleye, enjoyed the warm beautiful water, and even were able to take the boat through a small outlet that took us right to the sandbanks beach. We pulled our boat right up on the beach, and enjoyed hours of swimming and fun with the dog in bathtub temperature water! Human thing I can state that was slightly disappointing, was the discomfort of the bed. The polo coach was nothing but a mass of springs, and the master bedroom, was not much better. My son had to sleep diagonally in his room in order to fit in the bed. Fortunately we were tired when we went to sleep, so we managed to fall asleep quickly. Definitely woke up stiff though. Anyhow, the air conditioning in the cottage is wonderful, the deck was great, and our own fire pit for a cozy fire and marshmallow roast was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay so much, that we re-booked for next year. I suggest going for a week, as three days just doesn't cut it. In addition, the staff was wonderful, friendly, and very helpful. A special shout out to Chris and Haley who did their very best to make our stay comfortable and relaxing.

Response from Brendak1000, Director of Operations at Cherry Beach Resort - Great Blue Resorts
Responded Jan 21, 2015
Hello Hotchis, Thanks so much for your feedback on a summer visit to our Cherry Beach Resort. We are happy the majority of your family vacation was enjoyable and it was great you had an opportunity to enjoy the lake and boating experience. We appreciate your feedback regarding the feel of the beds and will take that into account when speaking with our cottage owners to see how we can make the beds more comfortable for our guests. It's great to hear you have re-booked and are looking forward to your vacation this season. Be sure to try out the new waterwalkerz which are similar to a human hamsterball that floats in the pool. We also have stand up paddle boards this season and pontoon boat tours around the lake. So be sure to these out, they are loads of fun! Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you out at the resort this season.

We stayed at Cherry Beach Resort for a 7 day stay at one of the cottages. This resort is ideal for families as they provide a playground, splash pad, salt water pool and an awesome swimmers' beach. You can also take the kayaks, canoes out as well. We loved the grounds as we found plenty to do. Great vacation overall and we would love to visit again. The fact that it was close to Sandbanks was an additional bonus.

Our family of 4- my husband and I with our 4 yo son and 15 mos old baby stayed here the last week of August. Sad to say, We were really disappointed with our stay.
Cottage: The cottage we rented was just ok. It was just the right size for a family of 4. It had a kitchen and living room. The bathroom is really cramped.
Location: The location was close to Sandbanks provincial park. About 15 mins away.
Food: They have a small cafe in the resort. The food was just ok. They had pizza, sandwiches, quesadilla, etc. The food were reasonably priced.
Amenities: There is a small swimming pool (nothing special, just a regular swimming pool), and a park for the kids to play (nothing special just a regular park). You could also use their canoes and kayak. We only took the canoe one time as it was always being used by others and I only saw a few canoes and kayak for the whole resort to use.
Service: We didn't really have to ask anyone for any help but this is where my biggest disappointment is. Right beside our cottage they were building a deck for the cottage next door. Our first morning at the cottage, the workers were hammering and sawing away at 8am. The next morning 7:45am and then the next 7:30am. They provide a rule book inside the cottage stating the quiet time is between 10pm-9am. The cottage had thin walls. They look like portables you would see at schools. Imagine how loud these constructions sounds are? It woke both the baby and my son every morning. I called the front desk and told them the problem. The lady who answered was rude and not apologetic at all. She said that the quiet time doesn't apply to this because the owners closing day was that week and they had to finish. I understand the work had to be completed but at least give us a warning about the noise and to start at a reasonable time. We received no warning about the noise and no apologizes at all.
If you want to rent from this resort, you should think twice. The resort was only ok in my opinion. We saw a few resorts on the same street that we will check out next time we come here. But bad service/etiquette like this leaves a really bad impression and I would never stay at this resort again.

There was nothing amazing about it. It looked and felt like a trailer park especially since there were more trailers than cottages. The Great Blue Getaways website says that the cottage accommodates 6 people comfortably...NOT! The standard cottage that we stayed in was approximately 500sq ft. For 2 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs it was DEFINITELY NOT spacious. The TV cannot be used unless you bring your own DVD's since there is no cable service. There were only 4 pillows for 2 bunk beds and one queen size bed. The 2 smaller bedrooms were more the size of a closet. The bigger room was too small for the bed and it was the only room with a closet. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the couch was NOT a pullout. WiFi was only a hot-spot at the General Store/Office and NOT available in the cottage. The "cafe" was an outdoor patio and a small indoor area that was more like a cafeteria and NOT a cafe behind the General Store. The pool was clean but the amenities around the pool were in poor condition...VERY NASTY (showers, toilets, etc.). The fishing docks were not stable AT ALL. There were 3 docks; one was an 18 wheeler trailer that was broken. The one with all wood was very shaky and the other had wood with steel bars and did not shake as much. The roads were unpaved and had NO lighting. I was very nervous and unable to walk my dogs at night because it was so dark. We were shocked to see that they celebrate Halloween in August. Saturday evening (August 23), all the cottages and trailers got decked out in Halloween decorations and the kids wore costumes and went around saying "Happy Halloween" and collected candies!? Senior guests and permanent residence treated visitors in general as a nuisance. One senior woman complained about us walking through as we were "walking on her lawn" but there was no sign or anything indicating that we could not walk there. The cottage hot water facility could not provide hot water for more than 1 person showering. There was a VERY strong sewage smell near the beach walkway. The only closet space available was the closet in the bigger bedroom and the compartments in the bunk beds were full already. The driveway leading from the road to the General Store/Office is not lit or paved, lacks proper signage and feels like only one vehicle can pass at a time. Although are reservation was from August 22nd through to August 25th, 2014, we checked out on August 24th. Considering everything, we just could not bare spending another sleepless and uncomfortable night there!!

My family and I were booked to stay at Cherry Beach Resort from Aug. 11 to 18, 2017. We made our reservations several weeks in advance and payed a deposit. The DAY BEFORE we were scheduled to arrive, someone from the resort calls me to say they have to cancel our reservation because of a booking error. This completely threw us for a loop. While the resort returned our deposit, the manager didn't seem to care much about how much he was putting us out. There was only one person at the resort who felt quite bad and tried to help us find another unit at one of their properties. But of course, by that point, the pickings were slim and their options didn't fit our budget or were too far of a drive. We had to scramble at the last minute to find another cottage resort. We did find one that was quite lovely, but we ended up paying more than we had planned. Cherry Beach Resort is one of several properties run by Great Blue Resorts, so it's unfathomable to me how a company of this size could make such a colossal booking mistake and be so unprofessional. It was a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience that created a lot of stress for my family.

Really don't know where to start. We just spend 5 days (4 nights) July 3-7 at Cherry Beach, and I will try to be as fair as possible.
Firstly, these cottage trailers vary in terms of their quality and condition. What we learned was that some were strictly owner occupied (i.e. not rented), which was very apparent by their well maintained trailer and property. Some were rented out privately (still fairly apparent), and then some owners opted to have Cherry Beach Resorts rent them for them (which is what we stayed in). The later definitely negatively impacts the condition of both the property and trailer.
Thankfully, we stayed on what we thought was the nicest and largest site (BeachView #31). It was located right along the water with lots of green space. However, we could see there were other great sites located along the beach, as well as up the narrow peninsula where there are sites on either side facing the water. The rest of the property was mostly sites that were not on the water and more inland.
I am going to try to break this down:
Our trailer - Definitely in very poor condition. I suspect because this is such a sought after site, and rented by the resort, there is a high turnover of people. The deck, outdoor furniture and BBQ were extremely grungy dirty (didn't want to sit on them) and not well maintained. The cottage was much smaller than I expected, but I could have dealt with that. The problem was it just didn't feel clean. The oven definitely hadn't been cleaned out, there was a roasting sheet inside that still with bits of meat stuck to it (ewe). The toaster oven was also very dirty, and the fridge/freezer had a funky smell in it. That said there were plenty of dishes, utensils pots etc., so that wasn't an issue.
The bathroom - This was SUPER narrow and tiny, and located right beside the front door. This made the bathroom floor always feel really gritty/dirty, just what you want when you step out of the shower. Also, we are not big people, but the short and shallow tub made things very cramped. Not too sure if the shower curtain has ever been washed. It didn't look dirty, but judging by the condition of the rest of the place, I suspect not. Keep in mind there is a small hot water tank (heated by propane). My husband had a shower (not a long one), and I had to wait awhile before I could have mine.
The furniture - The couch was pretty mingy and well used, and kitchen chairs had lots of stains. All the bed mattresses thankfully had covers. However, someone had left behind old stained pillows and comforters....I didn't want to touch them.
This unit had 3 bedrooms. Our 2 kids LOVED that there were 2 separate rooms (though very narrow/tiny), and each room had bunk beds (so no fighting for the top). The view from the kitchen table was truly one of the saving graces, and it was nice to look out onto the water.
The beach - This is not the resorts fault, but because of the high water levels this year the beach is very narrow and not what you see in the photos. I can see this would be quite nice at usual times.
Resort amenities - Use of the paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and life jackets were all part of the cost (thank God). Kids loved it. They also had a blow up climing gym set-up in the middle of the water. Younger kids definitely need life jackets even if they can swim. The water is a bit deeper and they can lose steam with all the climbing. There is also a pool onsite, but the bathrooms are not that close....splashpad (which was not working/on when we were there) and a tennis court, but this was mostly being used as a basketball court.
Big negative - The ice cream place closes at 5:00??? Really? After dinner my kids wanted ice cream and that's when we noticed it was closed. Others also complained, so this was very strange.
So here is where we did the math. Including tax we paid $1672 for 4 nights. We arrived Monday afternoon (3rd), their typical check-in is 4:00pm (so late), but we paid/opted for early check-in at 1:00pm. Check-out is on Friday before 10:00am. This package includes the extra $99 which you have pay if you bring a dog. They give you a small doggie care package which probably costs less than $10. They claim the cost is for the deep dog clean (yeah right), after you leave. Also included is $50 for firewood for the week, which we only got 1 bag the first night and never got it again (note: firewood bags are $8 + tax each).
Now, keep in mind you not only have to bring all your food, but also ALL your bedding, pillows and towels (all of which you need to take home and clean). When you divide 4 nights into $1672 this works out to be over $418/night! I have stayed in LUXURY hotels for less and they were clean, had daily maid service, provided towels and bedding, free coffee, and sometimes breakfast!!
Based on the standard of this trailer, we clearly paid $400/night just for a nice view, and now I definitely feel quite ripped off.
My advice, if this place interests you, and it could be SOOO much better with adjustments, I would find someone who rents privately. This may not ensure the best site, but I am sure you will get a better deal and a nicer/cleaner cottage.

Last night as we were sitting my the campfire, we noticed an individual going through our neighbours private property. When individual was asked to leave, the individual left and continued to wander through other properties, appearing to steal fire wood. When we contacted management, they did not do anything about it. No rules are enforced at this resort. Management allows this type of behaviour as they do not do anything when personal items are stolen. If you do decide to come here, be prepared to have personal items stolen. Last year, one of our family members had a $1000 Weber barbecue stolen from their deck. Management didn't say or do anything about it. The security and management of this resort is extremely poor.

Just spent a long weekend here and had a great time. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We toured the area on motorcycles and the area is beautiful and everyone we met were so nice. The evenings were relaxing, so quite except for the sound of a crackling campfire and a couple of loons out on the lake. The sky was full of stars and fireflies. Would not hesitate to go back to Cherry Beach again.

Thank you for your interest in Cherry Beach Resort. Our owners are not required to rent out their park model cottages. I have owners in the resort that use it only for themselves, family and friends. Yes, our owners own the park model outright and bring their personal belongings. A park model cottage is not an appreciating asset. That being said, resale value depends on many factors such as the age of the park model, the wear, how the owner maintains it, and what the new purchaser deems its worth. In my experience most of my customers have found the best way to see if resort living is right for them, is by coming to the resort to have a look around and have all questions answered to make an informed decission. Best Regards, Tracy Williacy, Sales Ambassador
Hello ladies, actually we have park model cottages, not recreational trailers and they are winterized as we are a 3 season resort.
