We stayed at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge in February during our mountain gorilla safari. The lodge is organized with a large lodge on the hilltop and small cottages arranged down the hillside. Each cottage has a balcony with a view of Lake Mulehe and there is a path down to the lakeside with a dock. The architecture is rough-hewn wood and stone for an attractive, rustic appearance overall. The staff were very attentive from check-in, to our pre-dawn safari departure, to our safari return when they cleaned our shoes and other muddy gear (as a courtesy and also to keep the lodge sparkling clean.
Last December we visited for the third time the region of Kisoro, with Lake Mutanda is one of our favorite areas of Uganda. Third time and third different accommodation ... this time we chose Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge : it was a great choice and we will definitely be back again. We were warmly welcomed. The bungalow and bathroom are spacious and very clean. We found a basket full of fresh fruit. The beds were very comfortable and we really slept well with a hot water bottle for extra warmth. Electricity and hot water always available 24h. The rooms are at different levels on the hillside, between the main house and the bungalows the path can be a bit steep. From the bungalow you can go directly to the lake and to the vegetable gardens. Where with a little luck you can see several birds. Internet has always worked in the lobby and in the restaurant. A special compliment we have to do it to the chef: quality food and great choice of courses in the menu , all was Delicious ! From here you can do gorilla trekking and beautiful panoramic tours to Lake Mutanda and Lake Mulehe or go to the town of Kisoro. The Kisoro market is spectacular. Years ago we managed to cross the border with the Congo for a few hours (after long discussions) and we were able to visit the small and poor local market Bravo to all the staff…
- The bungalows were well appointed and very clean; they overlooked Lake Muehl; very relaxing, peaceful place. It was the perfect place to launch and recover from a gorilla trek - One word of warning the bungalows are located downhill from the lounge/bar area so you have to navigate a series of natural stone stairs (e.g., 100 stairs) to go between the bungalows and the lounge area - Food was excellent and there was a good selection - Staff were extremely friendly and helpful; when we returned from our gorilla treks the staff were waiting for us with pitchers of water to wash our hands and offered us cups of coffee; they also took our boots/gaiters and cleaned them up for us; without much advance warning, they were even able to arrange for us to get massages - After our second gorilla trek, we were heading to Rwanda; we finished up mid-afternoon; the lodge was gracious enough to provide us with facilities to shower and clean-up before we headed out for our next lodge There was wifi in the lounge area, but it was not highly reliable as a result we had to settle our bill in cash since the credit card machine which needed a reliable wifi signal was not working…
We had a lovely stay at the lodge. The lake view from the lodge restaurant and rooms are gorgeous. Spotless clean rooms made from sturdy local materials. The staff is friendly and thoughtful. They excel in service by going the extra mile and making you feel at home. The food in the restaurant is good, they have an elaborate menu. I recommend staying in Lake Mulehe safari lodge.
I stayed at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge the night before doing gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. I absolutely loved my stay here and only regret that it wasn’t longer! The staff were so friendly, food was great and dinner was accompanied by incredible views out over the lake watching the sun set. Each of the lodges is named after one of the gorilla families and has its own private setting in the trees with views of Lake Mulehe. The lodges are beautifully decorated and I felt completely relaxed as soon as I arrived, and I was delighted to find a hot water bottle in my bed when I returned to my lodge after dinner! It was quite a long drive to the National Park in the morning, but absolutely worth the slightly earlier wake up call.
