This is a comfortable, but certainly no thrills place in Kisoro. The town is a bit of back-packers homebase for nearby hiding in the Virunga's so options are limited. Rooms are nothing special but certainly fine. Staff were flexible to accommodate early morning meal times. If you expect luxury, you won't find it, but if you're travelling flexibly in Uganda this is more than enough.
I ate in the Tourist Hotel and did a tour of some of the rooms, though I didn't actually stay overnight. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the choice on the restaurant menu was surprisingly good, with the food being produced promptly and to a good quality. The hotel is central, has a large car park, and even stretches to a small garden. The rooms looked comfortable enough, though I can understand other travellers' comments on the bathrooms which had not been well installed. It did not strike me as a cheap option, and those on a budget will find plenty of alternatives in town, but I would imagine that Tourist ranks up amongst the best that Kisoro has to offer nowadays.
The Kisoro Tourist Hotel was our lodging choice for our mission teams the last 3 years. The accommodations are simple but clean and spacious. The food and service is excellent and they do a great job meeting unusual dining times when requested. The location is excellent if you want to take a walking adventure into Kisoro town. The staff is very friendly and always waiting to meet any needs that you may have. I will continue to bring teams here.
This was my first time to Kisoro and I was very comfortable here. It's definitely a 'no thrills' hotel but it at end of town so it is quiet and it has beautiful views of Mt. Muhavura. The bar and restaurant on the main floor has enough options to keep you going for a couple of days and the hotel staff were very helpful. It's a more traditional hotel in the sense that the shower consists of a bucket and a faucet. Occasionally you might have warm water. Also, a tip: Kisoro is surprisingly cold for an otherwise hot country. So come prepared! It does get properly cold at night. The hotel did provide plenty of blankets but there is no heating or A/C so you need to be prepared. The rooms are equipped with mosquito nets and a TV.
We stayed here 2 nights in July 2011 when we drove to Kisoro from Kampala with GAP Adventures for the Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla Trek. After a long 13 hour drive to get here, and seeing the other buildings in this fairly remote little town of Kisoro, we were pleased to see the hotel and our room. Room was on second floor, good sized, good bed with mosquito net. Small bathroom with good hot shower. Had a balcony we could hang our stuff out on and with great view of volcano to the south. People were very friendly, had some beers in their little bar. Had good dinner both nights in their restaurant - good food and price. The staff were up and had full breakfast ready for us at some ridiculously early hour the day we were heading off for the Gorilla Trek and that was an excellent start. Amongst its peers in the area, it probably rates higher than just "average" but we rated it average becuase I expect most people are comparing it to western standard hotels. Bottom line is we would certainly go back to this hotel if we ever end up in Kisoro again.…
