Travelers' Choice
For those who want to experience the charm of a classic Zanzibar setting with a touch of ancient Arabian mystique, the place is Beyt Al Salaam, formerly known as Beyt Al Chai. This is an exquisite 10-room boutique hotel within a traditional Zanzibar house, built on 3 floors in what was once a tea house. Sitting only a few paces from the sea, the house is cool and breezy. On a typical day, guests relax in our beautifully appointed lounge and rooms overlooking a square filled with hibiscus and ancient tamarind trees - simultaneously feeling the pull of the mysterious Indian Ocean that lies just beyond the trees and soaking up the ambiance of this World Heritage Site only steps away from the shops, restaurants and attractions of contemporary Zanzibar.

True value for money. Great location. Basic yet fulfilling menu @ reasonable price. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Though upgrades were taking place every consideration was taken to ensure the stay was uninterrupted as little as possible

My husband and I lived in Beyt al Salaam Hotel for 13 days on our recent trip to Zanzibar. We were particularly impressed by how warm, courteous, respectful and loving the staff was. I would like to mention some names here- Charles used to serve us breakfast every morning with a bright warm smile. Priyanka would clean our rooms and once she knew our schedule she would keep the room cool and ready before we would come back. Kelvin and Hammim were always around to take care of our needs and helped us with whatever we needed. Mariyam arranged for us for an early suhoor when we wanted to observe a fast. Asiya in the restaurant was always ready to help. All in all, more than the property the people who ran it made it a memorable experience for us!

We had a wonderful stay at Beyt Al Salaam hotel. The best features are the extremely friendly and helpful staff, the excellent restaurant, its fantastic location in Stone Town, and spacious rooms. The only reason we couldn't give 5 stars is because we were staying on the top floor and as a result we did not have any hot water during our 4 night stay. Being a warm climate this wasn't the end of the world, but it would have been nice to have. The hotel is located very close to larger chains such as the Park Hyatt and Double Tree Hilton, and we often walked across to these for a cocktail. We were however very unwell after a meal at one of the larger chains, but had no such problem at the Beyt Al Salaam restaurant which has the world's best coconut crab soup - highly recommend it! Many thanks to all the staff and especially mgr Khadija and trainee Simon who were truly wonderful and made all the difference to our stay. Hope to see you again one day.

Excellent rooms, well priced, good service. Location superb and street quiet. They accommodated my needs like holding my room when I had to be away for a night, late checkout etc. Happy to stay again. Thanks Hamim for checking me in without a reservation and making a plan to accommodate me when I had to extend my stay without notice.
