Zanzibar Palace Hotel is a luxurious nine room boutique hotel located right in the heart of Stone Town (an Unesco World Heritage site). It is independently owned is an ideal home to explore and experience all the beauties of this magical town and Island. Zanzibar's rich history is integrated throughout the hotel by Arabian, Indian and English designs, this in combination with all modern comfort (airco, free WiFi, flatscreen TV's, etc). Each room/suite has its own unique decor with many local originating antique pieces of furniture, magical beds, colourful silks, etc. Room rates for every purse definitely makes this a place to stay. As you walk through the front door, you notice the soft aqua blue interior colours along with the antique furniture. You are immediately put into a state of calm and relaxation.

What a treat to arrive at Zanzibar Palace, just a 3 minute walk from the ferry. I think reviews are helpful when they add something to what others have already said so I'll keep my comments to that. As others have said, no elevator. We were on the top floor in the Arabica suite and it was totally worth it. I am rating this hotel in comparison to the typical hotels you'll find in Dar and elsewhere in Tanzania, not to every hotel I've ever been in anywhere in my life. If that's your standard, this isn't The Ritz. But as other hotels in the country go, the food was better, service better, room more spacious and unique, and easier to find. It also made us feel more comfortable that this hotel was one among the minority of hotels where staff wears masks and the property is taking obvious covid precautions. Traveling during a pandemic in a country where we were frequently ridiculed for wearing our masks, this was a welcome respite. We would absolutely recommend this property to those hoping to explore Stone Town or, like us, just have a good night sleep before heading out to a resort.

I stayed one night at the Zanzibar Palace hotel after a work trip to Dar, and the highlight was the warm, friendly, and welcoming staff! I stayed in the Nadia room, perfect for just me and for the one night I was there. Very charming decor, and water bottles and toiletries provided - beach towels were also available for swimming. The breakfast was delicious and made to order, with excellent coffee also available at any time (try the iced coffee - perfect after walking around in the heat). The location is fantastic, very close to all the sights you may want to see. I had limited time in Zanzibar, and as soon as I arrived I asked the staff to arrange a walking tour - 20 minutes later the guide was there! The staff was also kind enough to allow a quite late checkout the next stay, since my flight back to Dar was not until the evening. This was perfect since I was able to take a shower after visiting the beaches and relax in the AC before my flight. I will definitely stay at Zanzibar Palace again.

When you go to Zanzibar and you think of white sandy beaches and turquoise water of the Indian Ocean that should be stop #2! First go and spend 2 nights in Stone Town which has history, charm and authenticity! No where in Zanzibar City will exude that more than Zanzibar Palace Hotel. If you're looking for a western sterile culture hotel vibe, then this ain't the place, nor is it youth hostile cheap! But if you want to take a bite out of Stone Town with a great, 'in the heart of it all' location, look no further! No elevator here with a hike up to the top floor (porter will take your bags) but the view from the outside bathroom of the honeymoon (Dunia) suite is second to none! So serene! We were able to peak into other of their hotel rooms including the Arabica which had a more traditional open plan 1-level room that included a large bedroom, air-conditioning & bathroom. The hotel should be designated a historical building and they have pictures from over 100 years ago yet it has been modernized to even include in-room WiFi that was lightening fast! & generous A/C (needed with the hot Zanzibar afternoons)! The service stems from hotelier Daniela, the insightful, world traveler that originally hails from Italy. She's kept the decor period-appropriate yet has some detail fine touches including shampoos in old-fashioned mini-bottles corked on top! Her staff is welcoming and the breakfast was awesome with the best croissant roll we've ever had! Kudos to the chef who opens his kitchen for breakfast (included), lunch and dinner just to guests. They have a full spa menu. We looked at some of the booking platforms but found the prices on Zanzibar Palace Hotel website were the best AND they included a walking tour with an amazingly knowledgeable guide, Khamis Mpoka! Their website also triggered access to email (or call) Daniela directly and she was so helpful including arranging door to door service from the airport! One day a film about Daniela and The Zanzibar Palace Hotel will be made. It will have a "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" feel to it and will get an Oscar nod! And you'll be able to say you stayed there!

Dear Ian, Thank you for this great and thorough review. You definitely captured the essence of the Zanzibar Palace Hotel, offering a Zanzibar atmosphere combined with all our western world comfort! The stairs might indeed be a challenge, but the view from the top floor is amazing, and the balconies catch some of the sea breezes even in the hottest days! I will definitely pass your comment to the whole team, particularly the chef. We’re all very happy that you enjoyed not only our Hotel but the whole of Stone Town. And mostly that you’re safe back home in LA. It’s difficult times, but comments like yours make us feel stronger and optimistic for the future! Greetings also to Ruth! From Daniela and the Zanzibar Palace Hotel Team

What a wonderful stay in Stonetown. Daniela has reached out to me when I booked to offer a car service from the airport and I knew from there that we would be well taken care of. We stayed in the Dunia (top suite) with a balcony that offered a panoramic view of the city. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and ample living space. We booked all of our excursions through the hotel and Daniela’s recommendations were spot on. We loved the spice plantation tour, and the visit to prison Island to meet the tortoise. We are also connected with a local guide who brought us on a private tour of the city. Food and service were spectacular and I would highly recommend this hotel for its unique charm, boutique experience right in the middle of the action!

Dear Owenie, Thank you for such a complete and great feedback! We’re very happy you enjoyed your stay in Stone Town and all the activities: there is indeed plenty of things to do, even if I know that when you choose suite Dunia, you also want to enjoy your private sun-deck. These are difficult times, but words like yours make us feel optimistic about the future and fight even harder so that more and more people will enjoy the beauties of Stone Town. Stay safe! And kind regards, Daniela and the Zanzibar Palace Hotel Team
