This hotel was the perfect romantic getaway for my BF and me. We stayed in the room with the rooftop open-air bathroom. The almost 360-degree view of the city and ocean were breathtaking. The hotel arranged tours for us during our stay, and everything was well taken care of. The breakfasts were delicious. I still dream of the coffee.

Imagine Africa booked this hotel for us for our Honeymoon and I must say, it was exactly what we needed. The location is great, only a short walk to the coast, and the staff were superb (especially Susan). All questions and requests were solved quickly and with no hassle. We had the Dunia suite booked and it was amazing -... More

Hotel was great, rooms had air con and was roomy and luxurious. Not able to fault the hotel. Arriving in Zanzibar and travelling to the hotel so late at night wasn't nice, felt vulnerable and uneasy. Won't be visiting again.

My friend and I spent 3 nights here this past June. We arrived fresh from the peace and solitude of the Serengeti to the hustle and bustle of late afternoon Stone Town. In spite of being well-traveled we experience a certain amount of culture shock and weren't sure we were going to enjoy being here. The steps to our suite... More

Excellent and fascinating design hotel in the health of the old city. You really get the feeling of an old mansion. Very nice staff. Good service and food. The owner takes an personal interest in your well-being.

The hotel is as described - boutique. It isn't the most modern but they've done a very good job with the building and rooms. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Given the state of Stone Town (not the most developed tourist destination) we found this hotel just perfect.

We were only here one night and it was pleasant enough. Staff were very friendly and helpful but it just wasn't "our style" of hotel. The rooms were clean, though a bit eclectic. The restaurant food was nice but the service very slow (however we've noticed this in other parts of East Africa). Importantly for those who have mobility issues,... More

Spent two nights at this charming hotel. Friendly and service minded staff, beautifully decorated rooms (big plus for the silk robes in the bathroom, gave that little extra touch) and a very relaxing environment. We had a great time, nothing to complain about! A tip for future guests is to make sure you find the way back to the hotel... More

The hotel is situated in Old Stone town but unfortunately does not have sea views. The best aspect of the hotel was the friendly, well informed staff. Pleasant restaurant areas and very interesting decor, particularly the wonderful ornate beds.

We had a few days in stone town before travelling further to the coast. The hotel is a gem of a place. We had a lovely stay here for a few days. The room was large, clean and we also had a balcony facing the street. This could be a little noisy at times. We didn't eat dinner here but... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Zanzibar Palace Hotel is a luxurious nine room boutique hotel located right in the heart of Stone Town (an Unesco World Heritage site). It is independently owned and daily under Dutch management and an ideal home to explore and experience all the beauties of this magical town and Island. Zanzibar's rich history is integrated throughout the hotel by Arabian, Indian and English designs, this in combination with all modern comfort (airco, free WiFi, flatscreen TV's, etc). Each room/suite has its own unique decor with many local originating antique pieces of furniture, magical beds, Persian rugs, colourful silks, etc. Room rates for every purse definitely makes this a place to stay. In its adjacent building there is the Palace Luxury Spa, with its contemporary look and feel with one-of-a-kind art and furniture. As you walk through the front door, you notice the soft aqua blue interior colours along with the antique furniture. You are immediately put into a state of calm and relaxation. ... more   less
