Very historic property in an outstanding location. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised with a seaside room. The room was quaint--the building is old--but we were not disappointed. The staff was excellent and ably answered all our needs. The front desk was especially helpful. The bar was outstanding--what a view.

My fiancé and I stayed here during a long trip around Africa. The Africa House Hotel was a great place to relax for three days in between our adventures. The building is really cool (we love boutique and historic hotels) and our room was comfortable. The Sunset Bar was great for drinks and food and just to sit and watch... More

We visited the restaurant for a sundowner drink. The roof top pub was good with a good view of the ocean. The music is good. It can get a bit chilly late in the evenings as the winds blow on the roof top. The place is clean. The staircase to the roof top bar are steep and winding ,not funny... More

This place has nothing going for it except the view. Overpriced food and poor service take from the stunning stone town sea view. Go next door to tatu for cheap drinks just as good a view and much better craic.

Nice place to view the sunset in Zanzibar. The sea, sailing boats incredible! Food is served ordinary. The price is high and quality not so. Same for the drink. Hotel is old, but clean and services okay. Be ready to fight with mosquitoes. Lovely Zanzibar Stown town Place. After long day of tour and shopping good place to relax. Recommended... More

Nice sea-side view at restaurant but the room is so old. Room window doesn't open and too noisy at night because of music club which is located next building roof top. Suggest that don't go this hotel.

We didn't really stop for lunch but just for juice and beer refreshments after a 2-hour walking tour through stone town. As we couldn't drink water publicly because of Ramadan, this was a welcome respite. The place looks elegant and the terrace even more impressive. This should be a good place to sit and relax at sunset. The view of... More

We only enjoyed a coffee on the rooftop, but its easy to see that the hotel is old and it needs renovation. However the bar on the top is great, you may serve a fresh juice or coffee without being bothered by merchants. Friendly stuff with high knowledge of english.

The weight of nearly 170 years of history lies very heavily on this Stone Town icon. The fixtures and furnishings in our room was old and a bit tatty, the chairs in the dining room looked decidedly 1970's. The hotel is a mix and (miss) match of clashing styles. I would recommend a makeover. The food was basic and adequate,... More

We stopped at Africa House hotel for a leisurely lunch while exploring stone town for the day. We had a seat on the terrace overlooking the sea and were served by friendly and competent staff. They took great care in ensuring our meal was free of nuts and sesame seeds, as 2 of our 3 children have food allergies. Each... More
