StoneTown is such a mix of old and new, Africa and Arabia - this hotel fits right into the mix being two old properties renovated into a maze of rooms and balconies. We loved our rooms, adjoining by the balcony arrangement with hammock chairs to laze on. Four poster elegance, old world charm. Still being repaired and restored but perfectly... More

So, out of 6 different hotels that I stayed at in Zanzibar, this is my least favorite, but it was one of the most expensive. I think that it used to be *the* place to go, and it got used to its fame and, thus, got a little lazy. Architecture - gorgeous! It is an older hotel, but the Swahili... More

We arrived here after 9 days of game viewing in Africa - what a wonderful hotel to relax in and gave some r&r.. It had a lovely oldy worldly feeling to it. The rooms are very comfortable - I had a lovely view from my verandah over the Indian Ocean and the pool - which got a lot of use.... More

Great views over the sea with boats and ships coming and going. Well located in the old town, for sights and shopping (particularly Tanzanite). Decorated in moorish style with large open communal areas with art works abounding. The rooms were small and overfurnished, dominated by a comfortable king size bed but not much room to move around. Air conditioning was... More

The property of this hotel is a work of art, from the lobby to the oceanside terrace to the restaurant with incredible water views. However, I was disappointed in the rooms, which while stylish clearly showed their age. The air conditioner was underpowered, and the mattress felt as if stone. For this price range, I would recommend the Doubletree or,... More

Charming, old colonial hotel . Excellent service. The breakfast room overlooks the beach. Breakfast choice was excellent. Mmm bucks fizz to start,, followed by wide selection of cereals, fruits etc. Freshly cooked eggs and pancakes. Rooms very comfortable, overlooking the pool and beach. loved it.

Being my first time in Zanzibar, I did not know what to expect in terms of hotel accommodation. However from the minute the hotel driver picked my husband and I up from the airport I knew there was no reason to worry. He was very courteous and witty and shared a bit of the island history during the short drive... More

The food is great for vegetarians - had a great dinner and superb salads & desserts ! It is fantastically maintained just like the flag ship Serena, Nairobi that is my favorite when I am in Nairobi. The gentleman at the reception was most welcoming and really urged us to return, but our work shedule could not allow for another... More

A gorgeous location and you could not find friendlier more helpful staff. My only complaint was the food in the restaurant. While in Tanzania, we stayed at more than one Serena property-all very lovely places. The quality of the food was not up to the same standard, however, and this was true of all the Serena places we stayed. I... More
