The property is on a public beach that was quite noisy. We heard people talking loudly and dogs barking all day. We couldn't relax on our verandah. The voices of people walking the halls echo. The doors are heavy and people slam them shut all night. The constant thumping of music from the next door property was annoying. Rooms are... More

Perfect location in the middle of the old town with access to everything on foot. Nice architecture based on combining two existing mansions and adding some extensions. Beautiful tropical garden, pool, and bar area, from which you can admire the sunset. More greenery and charm than the newer nearby Hyatt.

Stayed at the Serena in Zanibar for 4 nights after safari. Historic hotel Great location, walking distance to all the sites in Stone town. Right on the beach. Lovely pool. Great food, and wonderful service and entertainment. Sitting by the pool, listening to the sound of Zanzibari music under a full moon and ocean breezes. Things dreams are made of.... More

We stayed here for 1 night and thought the property is lovely looking with quaint features. The location is superb for walking into town and is near all the eating places and the market by the sea front.. The only downer is that when we checked in, we were given a room in which the AC was off. When we... More

We had a couple of nights here after completing our safari and flying out of Arusha. The hotel exceeded expectations - it was tastefully furnished with a beautiful pool and bar/restaurant area. After a walk around the markets and shops of Stone Town, it was a treat to return to the peaceful hotel with wonderful uninterrupted seafront views. Comfortable beds... More

Staff seemed a bit uninterested ..the door man was impertinent especially to me, a woman! Room service was very slow and they usually got things wrong! The hotel was virtually empty but still the service was very slow. The hotel has great potential but one was not made to feel special or welcome . A pity , as it is... More

StoneTown is such a mix of old and new, Africa and Arabia - this hotel fits right into the mix being two old properties renovated into a maze of rooms and balconies. We loved our rooms, adjoining by the balcony arrangement with hammock chairs to laze on. Four poster elegance, old world charm. Still being repaired and restored but perfectly... More
