I contacted the owner Tausi for a day use of the room since I was travelling earlier on the day from Kendwa and my flight was not till later in the evening. Communications via email was prompt and upon arrival the room was clean and ready. I enjoyed the location for my last minute shopping at the local market and it is also a short distance to Lukmaan a nice local restaurant. Everything seems to be going on well until my departure. I had arrange on my own my taxi driver Ali to pick me up at 7.15pm, I have been using the same taxi driver for my prior Stonetown visit. Around 6.45pm, one of the male staff told me my taxi driver is here, (I was surprised because I am meeting my driver Ali at Lukmaan at 7.15pm). I asked the staff, what is the name of the driver and he said Ali and I added that I still have time. So when the time came for me to leave, the particular staff assisted in carrying my luggage and handed my luggage to an unidentified man. I said I can do this myself since I have to walk to Lukmann (3 mins away). The staff said this is your driver and they hurriedly usher me away...I kept asking where is Ali and he said Ali can't make it. As I arrived at the airport, I got missed calls from Ali, that was when I knew I was tricked. I spoke to Ali and as arranged he was waiting for me at Lukmaan. I immediately emailed Tausi and he apologized for his staff behavior. But the damage is done and the trust is gone. The dishonesty of this staff will not make me want to return back to this lodge in the future

The owner sent a taxi to pick us up at the airport for free. Then he welcomed us in person. When we wanted to go to the city center he asked a person he knew to come with us and he did quite a good guide thank you! The room itself was big but there were hairs on the sheets and in the bathroom. The shower and the lavabo were leaking so you got wet foot when you want to go to the toilets wich are in the same room. Good attention there was a soap. No air is coming from the sea so it is very hot in the room, we moved the bed under the fan. It is a bit noisy in the evening but very quiet at night and in the morning. The breakfast is OK with tea or coffee, banana and orange, toast with eggs butter and jam. We could leave the bags at Tausi place while we were having a last ballade in town and come pick them later in the afternoon. Good place for one night and very nice and welcoming person. Asante!

Stayed here two nights and the guy that welcomed us was very nice. He even showed us a brief tour of stone town: Where we could access free wifi (because the lodge didn't have any!), good places to eat etc. Pros: -Friendly welcome -Rooms were spacious (we had a twin ensuite) -the locations was easy to get to and access the shops, slave market, beach. (All within a 5 mins walk) Cons: -The mosque will wake you up early. -there's a school next door too which is loud in the mornings. -No wifi. Would stay here again though just for the convenience!

Stone Town is a big maze but I say Zanzibar Lodge was easy to find because Tausi managed to put signs up at the street... I find the location great as it is easy to reach everything from the Old Fort to the night market and and the House of Wonders as well as the sea front. Well, Stone Town is not very big but often it happened even to me (after 3 months living there) that I went the wrong way round in that maze (= There is a small shop at the entrance where you can get things like sweets, cigarettes and toiletries. Other shops, restaurants and a bank are only one minute walk away. The rooms are small but I only go there to sleep anyway! All the rooms have bathroom which is fabulous. Due to the maze like streets you actually cannot hear the noise from the close-by traffic. The staff is really nice and helpful - at the breakfast I told them my looooove for mangoes so I got an extra helping (= Tausi also organizes tours for her guests and I saw her quite often at the Lodge to check on her guests whether they are ok and happy! All in all a very pleasant experience

The Lodge is a cozy place and the owner and her daugher are lovely and helpful! For Stone Town the price is good, since it is generally a expensive town. The rooms are clean and big and the breakfast is fine for it's price. Ask for someone to pick you up, it is a bit difficult to find.

I stayed with Tausi at Zanzibar Lodge in April 2013 and have been meaning to post a review ever since. It's extremely hard to find affordable accommodation in Stone Town, and the Lodge was affordable and very pleasant. We had a private room with air-con and breakfast every morning (at whatever time we needed). The staff really put the Lodge over the top, however. Tausi arranged a few tours for us, and the rest of her staff was responsive and helpful. Great value!

When you arrive to zanzibar from the continent, you discover higher prices for everything. Especially for accomodation. Zanzibar Lodge is a cosy place for the low price. I fell in love with terrace on the roof of this hotel - nice panoramic views to the sea, to Stonetown, scream of children in the school, light noise from the streets and markets, music from other hotels and bars. These elements made my evenings and mornings (we had breakfast in the terrace) here very nostalgic. The staff was very kind and friendly. They accompanied us to the bus station through the labirinth of Stonetown. When you have such welcome, you must come back here. So we did it after few days :) And then we got much more bigger room! Just one minus - plumbing in the toilet and shower doesn't work very well. But I guess that this problem is in all country :)

Zanzibar accommodation is more expensive than mainland Tanzania (and over-priced for what you get) but that said, Tausi has created a lovely place to stay in the middle of all the action (close to Darajani market) and she and her staff member Aly at there to help you with whatever you need. I was a single traveler and stayed in a good sized, double room and used a shared (small) bathroom. The lodge is clean and safe and quiet. Breakfast is included and lovely - the personal touch makes you feel at home. I would highly recommend Zanzibar lodge for budget travelers in Stone Town.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in expensive Stonetown / Zanzibar this cheap budget place might be a place for you to stay. Everything is extremely basic, but you pay considerable less here than in other places in Stonetown. You are in the middle of the city, near the market. So taxi drivers can drop you off at the market, from here it is fairly easy to find it in the maze of small streets of this small city. You can easily get lost here, especially in the dark, so taking a taxi is advisable if you like to go out at night. The (4 in total) rooms are basic but the beds are good. Fan and AC are present for the hot nights, and bathroom is provided with hot shower and decent toilet. Breakfast is very simple but gets your day starting. Nothing fancy, all basic. But if you are traveling on a budget this might be a place for you to stay…
