Two distinct things blew me away about our time here - the service and the property itself Property: - Arguably the most charming/beautiful hotel in Stonetown. Possessed a lot of character but had also been gut renovated, resulting in modern plumbing/other amenities - Our room (Kate) was huge, with two separate daybeds in addition to the regular bed, a local... We had the wonderful opportunity of staying two nights with Russell (hotel manager) and his amazing team at the Emerson Spice! Check out their Facebook page to get some history and see some photos of this incredible property. This is the place to treat yourself! Each room is named after a woman who was admired by Emerson, the original owner... More

Capture the spirit of Stone Town with rooms in exquisite wood and local furniture & fittings. Verandahs, roof restaurant, few minutes from the ferry, castle and Forodhani, in the centre of the town. Staff caring and available. Don't miss the Secret Garden Cafe. Staff went out of their way, with wheel chair pick up, to look after our special needs.

Emerson Spice is far and away the best hotel that either of us has ever visited. The decor and furnishings were stunning and made us feel very special. We loved our room ("Camille") with the gorgeous four poster bed, luxurious stone bathtub and 2 balconies and were impressed by little touches like the locally made soaps, "bits and bobs" box... We had a lovely lunch in the secret garden. Food was amazing, we saw some of the rooms and went up to the roof. We heard a lot about this hotel and decided to go there for lunch. We did not regret it at all! Staff is very friendly and atmosphere is very relaxing.

Athough my best friend and I had booked another hotel for our two nights in Stone Town, we decided to move to Emerson Spice for our second night and what a terrific decision it turned out to be. It was the jewel in what turned out to be the 8 nights, 8 hotels theme of our 9 day vacation in... More

Dear DallyGirl, Such a pleasure to have two Diners who loved it so much that they booked a Room! We're so glad that our lovely room , Kate, (named after Katherine Hepburn, of course!), was free that day and great that you enjoyed it so much. Thank you for taking the time to write such wonderful things. Best regards, Russell... More

When our airport taxi dropped us off at a dirty alleyway in Stone Town at night and we (including three young kids) were pointed in the direction of the hotel, I must admit our collective hearts sunk. There is no car access to the hotel, so dragging luggage along narrow streets is necessity (there are staff to help). Thankfully, when... More

I was looking for a special place in Zanzibar to take my girlfriend and after learning of Emerson Spice, everywhere else looked second rate. This place has a rich history, and consequently has been constructed in a very interesting fashion that is unlike any modern building. Our room featured two balconies from which we could have breakfast looking over the... More

Dear Tom, It was our pleasure to have you & your Girlfriend to stay. We're pleased you appreciated the unique style of Emerson Spice, which took our Founder, the Late Emerson Skeens, several years to create. Each of our eleven rooms has different features, all based around the Room's own 'Story'! Thank you for choosing to dine with us, and... More

My husband and I stayed at the Emerson Spice hotel for our honeymoon and had the best experience here. All of the staff including the drivers arranged by the hotel were very sweet and so accommodating of our needs. The hotel is very centrally located making it very convenient to walk around Stone Town. The hotel and especially the rooms... More

Dear ChitaliKhetan, What a pleasure having you both here for your Honeymoon. We enjoyed making your stay with us extra special. Romance exudes from the flamboyant billowing silk curtains and antique Zanzibari beds in the rooms, to enjoying pre-dinner 'Sundowners' in our rooftop Tea House Restaurant, as you say. We look forward to welcoming you back! Best regards, Russell &... More

We stayed in "Kate" for, sadly, only one night....an anniversary surprise from our daughter. What an incredibly magical place this hotel is. We really felt like we had landed in a storybook. Russel, the manager, was charming, funny, so very helpful; the staff was awesome. Can't say enough about the detail and ambience of this place. Each room is decorated... More

Dear Mollie, Always fantastic when one of our regular guests, such as your Daughter, brings their Family to stay here, especially if we are able to help celebrate something special like your Wedding Anniversary, in true Zanzibar Style! Your room, Kate, (named after the inimitable Katherine Hepburn), is perhaps the grandest room in the hotel, with its two Terraces and... More
