The most amazing hospitality, friendly and welcoming personnel, beautiful architecture and interior. Dinner served on the rooftop is of Michelin level with gorgeous view of sunset and the city. It's a must in Stone Town.

Emerson Spice is not a hotel. It is a passionate and loving tribute to the magical and decadent beauty of Stone Town and of the island. Every detail is art, poetry, history... All you have to do is let the beauty embrace your senses and breathe in the enchanted moment, just like a Puccini opera - all other needs are... More

If you are thinking of staying in Stonetown you really must stay here. This is an amazing hotel, quirky, charming and right in the middle of the town. Each room is individually decorated in a different theme and the whole hotel has something surprising around each corner. The staff are very welcoming and really do look after their guests.

This hotel is located within Stone Town, a short walk from vehicle access. The location is excellent as you're right in the midst of everything Stone Town has to offer. As it's at the end of one of the main streets radiating from the Old Fort, it's easy to navigate to. It's a beautiful, charming, old building - with balconies,... More

Emerson Spice never ceases to amaze; over the years I have been coming and going to Zanzibar - maintaining a healthy distance between visits to maintain a certain objectivity - I have watched the hotel grow from the initial couple of rooms to the current 11, the now two restaurants evolve taking a natural place in the culinary forefront of... The Emerson Spice was the best part of Zanzibar - an enchanting luxury hotel with fascinating history. We were treated like nobles. The manager is British and wears a silk robe. The room is something out of Aladdin. Excellent food. Amazing personalized service.

Arrived here with the help of the hotel staff who came to meet our taxi - the hotel is located in the middle of the old town where it's motorbikes/bikes only. The rooms are beautiful, each one quite unique and intriguing. Eco-friendly toiletries and locally woven towels are provided (with the option to revert to fluffy hotel towels if you... More

Cute little boutique hotel in the old town of Zanzibar. We occupied four out of the 11 rooms and each was unique and very lovely. Indoor and outdoor shower, nice and comfortable beds and a cool location everything fitted perfectly. We had dinner on the rooftop where the view is great and the food matched perfectly (prices rather high). On... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
An inspired and lovingly restored Merchant’s House, this multi-storied small Boutique hotel has an inner courtyard, eleven unique antiques-filled rooms, and two of Zanzibar’s best restaurants. All rooms are equipped with a small fridge, air conditioner, fan, and high ceiling mosquito net. The rooftop ‘Tea House’ hosts one of Stonetown’s most renowned restaurants offering a stylish ambiance amidst the sound of the calls to prayer from the town’s many mosques. The five course ‘Taste Safari’, prepared daily by our Zanzibari chefs, is seafood based and celebrates the freshest and best the market has to offer each morning. The sunset hour is an integral and pleasurable part of the experience so diners are encouraged to arrive at around 6pm to enjoy a ‘Sundowner’ before dinner. On the Ground floor The Secret Garden, set amidst lushly landscaped hidden ‘Ruins’, open to the skies, has a Zanzibari inspired A La Carte Menu. Look out for live music performed by The Dhow Countries Music Academy. Open for Lunch and Dinner. ... more   less
