Kiponda is in a great location - very walkable to restaurants, the seashore, and other stone town attractions. The breakfast was tasty and included the only "real" coffee (not instant) of our entire trip. The wifi was consistent, and the advice and directions given by staff was helpful and easy to follow. We took a fan room, which was a...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about us. We have rooms with fan and rooms that have additional air conditioning. In the summertime (December til April) it can get hot (around 30-32C) and does not cool down much at night. So for those who do not like such heat they should book a room with AC...

It was a last minute booking and the manager was nice enough to inform us to enable us book but the room we were given (No. 1 - triple room) was horrible. It had an awful smell from the bathroom that just wouldn't go away no matter how much air freshener was used which made my showering / sleeping experience...

Thank you for your review. We have already solved the problem with the smell in the bathroom of room no 1. There was a problem with the drainage pit but it is solved now. We apologize for that. Certainly there are no bed bugs. If I remember correctly you had been on the beach shortly before leaving and it sounds...

Perfectly located in Stone Town, next to Forodhani Garden and with several restaurants around. I had a nice bedroom with fan - good value for money. The breakfast was quite good and served on the roof top. I felt warmly welcomed.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to review us. Having this nicely located place we want to add to the guest well-being a personal touch and authentic Swahili hospitality. We are glad that it worked out for you. Karibu tena - welcome again. Heike

We booked months in advance for a specific room but when we arrived we had been switched to another, which was much smaller and had a window overlooking a busy construction site. We were upset with the mistake and the manager was not at the hotel to speak to us when we checked in. However, the next morning she apologized...

Hi and thank you for your review. As we had already told you we are really sorry about the inconvenience with the wrong room. You checked in in the late evening and I was already out the office. I had asked my receptionist to explain to you why you did not get the specific room you had asked for although...

The toilet and the bathroom had this odor that even with air freshener it was still smelling the same, the floor was slippery and the toilet seat had brown stains inside. We dreaded having to go inside the toilet. Surprisingly the hotel had good reviews and quite a number of guest, so we concluded that maybe it was only our...

Hello and thank you for your review. Seems like in your case we were not able to live up to our expectations and our own goals. We have had complaints about bad smell in that room before but thought we had solved the problem. It seems we did not solve the whole problem. We had a booking right after you...

Acceptable place to stay. Nothing amazing. Room 1 downstairs had bathroom that smelled like urinal even when dry and "clean" and in its glory the hotel might have been amazing, it is run down and has a layer of grunge around it. They did make us a special breakfast before we got to the 7 am Ferry and escorted us...

Thank you for your review. In room No 1 some time ago we had a termite problem and had to spray so they would not eat up the ceiling beams etc. Unfortunately some of the smell of the spray remained. Not everybody notices it but obviously for you it was noticeable enough. We apologize for that and will try to...

Good value for money! Great rooftop terrace and clean rooms in central stowntown! Close to fodharani food market which you should go to (every evening). Highly recommend a room with airco! Ours (3 person room) did not had any which made the night very sweaty and to warm! Fan alone will not be sufficient for the warmth is stonetown! Furthermore...

Asante sana. Thanks for your review. Zanzibar is on the southern hemisphere and close to the equator so the temperatures are tropical all year. From November til March (summer) the temperature stays around 30 degrees Celsius and its quite humid (good for your skin) but it does not cool down much at night. The winter months (June til September) are...

Kiponda B&B is a very good choice to stay when visiting Stone Town. The location is great, the staff is very friendly and very helpful in organising trips and the roof terrace is nice. The breakfast is basic, but good with fresh juices and fruit. The two persons room we rented was perfect: clean, airco, fine bed. But the third...

We appreciate your taking the time to review us and are happy that you enjoyed your stay. We are in a constant process up refurbishing our rooms. The triple room you stayed in is already on our list. Because of high season it had to be postponed a bit. Thanks for your suggestions we will definitely keep them in mind....

Not only are the rooms quiet and spacious, but the water is hot, the air cons and fans work and the rooftop view is stunning! The staff were professional and didn't do the Zanzibar 'hard sell' of tours, etc. This place is value for money and includes an impressive breakfast. 👍🏼

Thank you for your review. We are always happy when our guest are happy. If you want to do a tour our staff is more than happy to help you organising but we don't want to push anyone to do a tour. Thanks for staying with us and welcome again. Karibu tena.

Spent a great two nights at Kiponda B&B. The location was lovely, the room clean and comfortable (strong fan but no air conditioner in my room). The rooftop terrace was a great place to relax and view Stone town. The staff were very accommodating. I would definitely return.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Kiponda Bed and Breakfast is in a historical house dating back to the 18th century when it was built as part of the palace; simple and functional yet friendly and welcoming, nested in the charming Stone Town of Zanzibar. This beautiful old original Swahili house is just a walking distance from the harbor and a stone throw from Forodhani Garden and the House of Wonders. The small and simple B&B is an integral part of the neighborhood – meet our friendly neighbors and feel at home in the middle of this buzzing town rich in culture and full of stories. Peaceful, authentic, comfortable and furnished simple but with style, this place has it all if you are out for the true experience. Built in Arabic style – with one interior portico, thick walls and plenty of natural ventilation – sitting at the roof top seating area where we also serve breakfast makes it easy for you to dream up your own story of ancient times. Kiponda B&B is one of those special little hotels you‘ll want to return to again and again, and that’s what many of our guests do. We offer simple quality accommodation and services without fake luxury – a true Zanzibar experience. ... more   less
