While we were visiting Tanzania, we flew over for one night in Zanzibar at Al Johari. The hotel is located in the middle of Stonetown. We went on a walking tour that started at the hotel and lasted three hours. We were able to easily walk to the night market for dinner. The room was nice. Zanzibar is majority muslim.... More

We spent two nights in the Al Johari. The hotel itself is in a good location but it can get a little noisy, as other reviewers have mentioned. The room we stayed in was a nice size with a comfortable bed, fridge, aircon and many windows. The bathroom was also great with hot water. The TV didn't work but we... More

Al Johari Hotel is an old zanzibari house that has been beautifully transformed into a homely hotel. It boasts elegance, class and beautiful antique decor. I arrived into Zanzibar on the daily ferry. I was meant to check in at 5:00PM in the evening. By 7:00PM had not checked in. The hotel called me to find out if everything was... More

we spent one night here before we flew back to AA. The staff was friendly, the room large and clean and equipped with an AC, which was quite necessary to suppress the surrounding noise. Breakfast was okay, but the view from the rooftop restaurant was not impressive. Besides the windows were quite dirty. The price was very reasonable and they... More

We booked a room for two nights through Expedia on 14 August 2016 in Johari hotel in Zanzibar. We did not stay overnight and requested a full return of $160 dollars because the hotel provided was unfit for human habitation. I request Expedia's reply and a full return of the paid sum of $160 by 21 August 2016. I called... More

I'll start with the positives ... The staff were very friendly and the rooms were very clean. The bathroom is immaculate and there is a fridge, TV and telephone in the room. The 4 poster bed was very very comfy and it had the potential to be a very good hotel. Unfortunately we stayed on a Friday and Saturday night... More

We spend two nights at the Al Johari in Stone Town in Zanzibar in July of 2016. We booked with Hotels.com and found out when we got there they didn't know anything about our reservation and had no relationship with Hotels.com. After a tense hour that included a phone call from me at my expense to my credit card company... More

Recommended by the owners of Waikiki Hotel , this lovely gem is run by Italians and offered a great accommodation for a fantastic price. My room was spectacular and soooo romantic... Great bed, great shower, soft towels (after 10 days travelling in Africa you realise you appreciate all these tiny details) and i loved the slippers and the bath robe... More

African aesthetics are integrated throughout the decor making this charming boutique hotel authentic to its historic surroundings. A minute from the sea and a convenient five-minute walk to pulse center Forodhani Park, the calm of the morning also gives onto a commanding view of the sea from the rooftop breakfast room. The hotel staff is attentive and eager to assist.... More

Didn't sleep due to noise from neighboring disco till 2am. Frequently no water or no hot water. Despite the menu and the nice pictures of rooftop dining on their website the restaurant didn't exist anymore (for quite some time). Staf availability was very poor. It felt more like a pension than a boutique hotel.
