Africa Safari Selous garners compliments for its cozy, culturally-rich lodges and the commendable cleanliness that extends to its well-kept rooms, complete with mosquito nets. The service stands out, with guests consistently lauding the professional and attentive staff and the expertise of the guides. In terms of value, the hotel's reasonable pricing, particularly at the bar, receives positive mentions, though it's suggested to have USD on hand. However, some guests have encountered challenges with insects, room temperature control, and sporadic water issues.

We really enjoyed the nature and everything that came with it. We saw a Lion, plenty of Elephants, Zebras, Hyenas, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Hippos, Crocodiles, Baboons, Monkeys, Warthogs, Antelopes and Wildebeests while on the safari. Shockingly, at the time we were there, we didn’t experience any insert pest problems (flies or mosquitoes). We had on deep woods deet spray and citronella scented arm bands on to just make sure. The Maasai’s were super great and made my wife feel much better while sleeping over. The lodge rooms had mosquito tents in the one that we stayed in, but of course it’s an outside sleeping arrangement, so every nip and crack will not and was not covered by the screen, etc., which still allowed lizards in from time to time. The curtains are not 100% covering the all of the windows, so when the wind blows, etc., they’ll move out of the way a little for a peep show if someone was to attempt it (we didn’t have this prob., everyone was very respectful). The dinner area brings a great breeze when the lights are off in the lodge. They turns off in the day and allows for a fan and electricity plugs around 5pm-4am. Periodically, it would go off throughout the night as well. The water tower seems like water dripping sounds along with the friendly baboons noise can make for a long night.

The property was great except for the pool area. It was a hot mess! If it wasn’t for everything else that went right, I would’ve given it a 3 star review. The pool is very important to guest if it’s advertised, but it looked like it hasn’t been maintained in a long long time. If you aren’t going to allow guests to utilize the pool, please remove it from the description.

The WiFi only works near the receptionist area, but it’s almost terrible to nothing. However, some spots will allow your phone to work off of the 3G (ATT services).

Right outside of the eating area, we seen so many warthogs and their babies. They were simply eating and not bothering anyone. We were able to see a baby elephant come near as well, but no threat at all. Really really nice serving staff at the facility! Pleasure being there.

The seating area across from the help desk has some extremely nice comfortable furniture sets. Just turn the fan on and relax while waiting on your guide or chilling.

We stayed 4 nights in this lodge which was a perfect place to start our safari. The bungalows are very clean and have all the necessary needs like a shower, clean toilet and a Kingsize bed with mosquito netting. At nightfall they also spray your room with mosquito repellent so we never saw any mosquitos at all.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all of very good quality.
The guides for the safari were really nice and have the knowledge of the National Park with all its animals and plants.
They know were certain animals regularly hang out so we did see a lot of wildlife during our stay.
People in the lodge like the masai (who make sure you stay safe during the nights), the girls behind the bar the guys at the buffet are really nice as well and they make sure you feel at home.
Definitely recommend a stay here to explore the beauty of Tanzania.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a twin centre with Zanzibar.

The huts are lovely, very well maintained. The staff are on hand to help at any point and they ensure you have a Masai show you to your room, I didn't really understand why until one day there was an elephant crossing my path and also a buffalo just outside the hut one evening.

The staff do what they can to make your stay comfortable. There are mosquitos nets and the clean the rooms daily and also do a turndown service where they pull the mosquito nets round the bed and spray. The power runs off a generator so there is limited WiFi and electricity only available between 5pm and 9am - it isn't an issue as we were generally out in the day and I think it added to the whole experience.

The food options are limited but there is enough to keep you going. They have a large selection of drinks at the bar.

This truly was an amazing experience staying here and doing their game drives, everything ran so smoothly - although be prepared not to receive any info before you go - it's all very hakuna matata there and it works. One day we had 6 elephants wandering through the site and drinking from the pool and the welatering hole which is by the restaurant at bar. They also have a fire pit and some entertainment in the evening.

I can't recommend this place enough, it was fantastic!

The game drive is an amazing experience. I stayed at the hotel with my wife and have to say that everyone of the staff is just Extremely friendly. The rooms are clean overall, but insects are quite common and you will encounter them 100%. Food is very nice, and you even get escorted to your room every night as there are wild animals in the camp every night when the sun goes down. WiFi is very slow, and there are limited payment options.
Overall an experience I will remember for a long time.

Arriving at the bushes where the camp is set we were greeted by the camp team, including 2 masai – all colorfully dressed and offered freshly squeezed fruit juice while registering.

The chalets we were accommodated were huge, they were next to the pool.

The first day we (3 persons) were the only guests. But everything was working as if the camp is full – that was amazing service.

The food they prepared during the entire stay was so tasty and spicy. The drinks around the camp fire before and after dinner , speaking and dancing with the masai, the pumbas around, the crying bush babies - all was a great experience.

I loved the design and the furniture - all was natural - wood, mud, palm trees.

WiFi was available for free at reception and bar.

Great hospitality and service! I very much recommend the Africa safari Camp.

We had a great time staying at Africa Safari Selous. In those particular time, we were the only guest and the staff was really careful about all our needs. They were also really helpful with advices and directions before our arrival.
Meals were delicious, packed lunch were good on our days out.
It was our first time in Selous and as we live in Tanzania and might go back sometime again to visit the reserve with our guests, we would surely consider returning there.

This is a fantastic place to stay for an authentic safari experience. What you will get is ultra friendly, enthusiastic, polite, knowledgeable staff whose mission is to give you a brilliant safari experience.

The restaurant staff, the bar staff, the Masai guys who escort you round the site when it is dark, the manager and the safari driver/guides are all super helpful and know their stuff.

First a bit of calibration: it is not luxury, the Banda bungalows are basic with no air conditioning and a simple shower. There is no door to the bathroom (other than a couple of what look like long tea towels hanging across the door). However, do not let that concern you one jot, you will only be in the rooms for a few hours to get your heads down. You will be up around 5:45 to get ready for a 6:30 breakfast and a 7:00 departure for your all-day safari drive, you probably won’t be back until 16:00 to 17:00. That is the time the power comes on because the site is not connected to the grid, and they must make do with some solar panels and generation. The power is on all night so you can charge your phone, tablets, and camera batteries no problem.

We slept surprisingly well given the no aircon situation but there was not much noise at night. Note, it was very hot in February, daytime max was about 37’ and night time mins 25’, also very humid.

The food is a very good buffet service, not a massive amount a choice every day but there is plenty of it and you won’t go hungry, and it tastes great. There is a bar that is pretty well stocked and reasonably priced.

Must dos:
1. Watch the Masai do their dance/jumping thing around the open fire one evening. A magical experience.
2. Do the village tour. This was a pretty humbling experience to see how the locals live. Only 5-minute drive away and a longish walk around what is quite a large village.
3. Take plenty of US dollars for tips. (Note: you can pay your bar bill by card)
4. Watch the baboons and wart hogs in the grounds with a cold beer when you get back from safari.

You will of course see lots of animals on the all-day drives. If you like off road driving your are in for a treat as you won’t believe some of the places they put the jeeps. Our driver (Jumo) was super careful though and not in anyway reckless. I always felt safe in his hands. I assume they are all trained like this.

Go there, you will love it.

Back after 5 years.
Everything is in need of a bit of renewal, because it is starting to run down a bit. The swimming pool is a good example of this. The towels are so hard you don't need a scrub ;)
They are, however, busy renovating the houses and that is no unnecessary luxury. The food is very simple and you should not be afraid of bugs in your soup. Because even if you are a vegetarian, you cannot avoid bugs in your food here. So not so good. Special food was made for me and it was reasonably tasty. But don't expect a delicious abundance of food. Every day was a bit of the same food. Soup, rice, potato and white cabbage. But that is manageable for 3 days. The safari with Metambo was great again. Although this time we couldn't get close to groups of animals like 5 years ago. The animals are shy and the tourists are apparently a bit used up in the Corona time. A good thing for nature and a slightly lesser thing for people who want to photograph animals. A tip: Do not go on safari in the rainy season, but wait for the dry season. In the dry season it is much easier to find the animals at the watering holes. And one last thing. Take a flashlight with you, because at night there is no power and the earth is dark. You really don't see a hand in front of your eyes. And a challenge to find a toilet ;) Go for a pool villa, these are the best.

This was my 2nd time in Selou. First time I went to another hotel next to the river, which was a very nice experience.
This time I went with my family and wanted to try another hotel.

I booked 2 tents (glamp tents) with my family for a 2nights stay. Water pressure was very low and the water was also cold. When we asked the management team to fix it, every time they said it is already sorted, but it was not. And because you are on a game drive for most of the time, we were tired to follow up again and again.
From 5 of us, only I could take a shower (I am ok by showering with cold water) during the while 2nights and 3days. And with all the heat and dust on our skins.

So 3days passed with no change in any condition. We paid for a glamp tent, but we received service of a normal lodge. And the hotel management just apologised in wapp chat and did not return me any funds.

Also their safari car in the game drive at Selou park, got out of petrol and another safari car tow us until our camp (for 45minutes) at the speed of 80 km/hr
I was sitting in the behind car (cause the towing car was full) and the experience was extremely dangerous. Cause the towing car was driving crazy fast to get at the exit gate before 7pm to avoid any penalties. But I was expecting a crash on that speed. My mom, my wife, and my in-laws were with me. So imagine the amount of stress
Apart from the amount of dust that was spraying from the towing car right to my face (I could not even open my eyes for more than 2 seconds)

The only thing that I got from the hote management, was apology

Please think twice before you book with this hotel.

We stayed here for four nights to experience game driving in the national park. The main thing to say is the staff couldn't have been more kind or friendly. Unfortunately I was unwell during our stay (nothing connected with the hotel) and they couldn't do enough to make things more comfortable or easier for me. They went above and beyond to help arrange an earlier flight, transfers and hotel where we could get medical help. The rooms were authentic but had everything you needed and the food was well prepared and varied. The game drive, river trip, village tour and Bush walk arranged by the hotel were fascinating and all the guides were well informed and knowledgable. We will definitely be back to experience the area again and would recommend Africa Safari Selous if you want an authentic experience with amazing staff who really care about making your holiday special.
