Beho Beho was the first camp to be sited in The Selous, not on the banks, or the flood plains of the mighty Rufiji River, but in the cooler highlands so as to enjoy the 'cooling breezes' from which its name derives. Always designated as a 'private camp' it has fiercely protected its individuality and privileged location as one of the most 'magical' places it is possible to visit in safari Africa.

Detailed Reviews
Beho Beho is a truly magical place and exceeded all our expectations. The team were incredibly welcoming and all of the staff made us feel like part of the Beho Beho family from the moment we landed at "Beho Beho International" (a short 5 minute drive from the main camp). We were lucky enough to stay in Bailey's Banda which is very spacious for a couple (the Banda can easily sleep 4 adults). The outdoor shower was a fun highlight, the amenities are all top notch (the swimming pool isn't heated, but that isn't necessary as you really need to cool off after the morning safari) and the luxury toiletries were akin to luxury products found in city hotels. A hairdryer is available if needed and wifi is available throughout the Banda. The food was delicious both in the Banda and on safari (prepare to eat a lot - the brilliant chefs prepare loads of food and have different themes for each evening) and we ate at a different location within the Banda grounds every night. The master bedroom was beautiful - the views were incredible from bed (and indeed from every room in the Banda) and we made sure our wake up call was early enough so that we could enjoy a coffee on the comfy sofas in the room. If you are brave enough and visit during dry season, we highly recommend leaving the fourth wall exposed (there are very robust mosi nets and the camp supply plenty of deet).
The safari guides were very caring and knowledgeable and, unlike most other camps, it was a delight to have 3 different guides that rotated over the course of our stay. Each guide imparted their own interests and passions. Each guide will join you for a drink ahead of dinner, which really allowed us to get to know the guides and it was great to share the day's stories which encouraged some friendly competition between the guides! We were also joined by trainee guides in addition to the main guides, who were also really knowledgeable and great second spotters. We had a mix of walking, driving and boating safaris - all well organised, safe and full of excitement. The guides always parked at a beautiful spot for sundowners.
We don't have any criticisms and wouldn't change a thing.

Late December 2019/early January 2020 we spent 4 days at Beho Beho with a family of 8. We all felt it was impressive from any perspective: location, people, wildlife, rooms and food. It feels as home with very passionate staff around you. Wildlife starts around the corner or even in front of the rooms. Next to the safari drives we took the safari walks twice. An amazing experience as well. Note that the view from the vehicle is clearly better but walking in between the animals is another experience.
The guides are fantastic, very knowledgeable and constantly available for any questions one may have.
The rooms are luxurious and very well maintained. Staff does everything to keep the rooms tight at any moment during the day.
Diners are served in various places in the camp and enjoyed with all the guests (typically max around 14) and guides. The food and service are outstanding. Passion and care of all staff is really amazing.
Connection is easy with a runway very close to the camp.
Good wifi is available in the rooms but not in the joint area's: a place to talk to each other.
A place to return to!

Beho Beho has truly exceeded all my expectations and delivered an experience you will hardly find anywhere else. The staff will go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. Everything is so well organized and every detail has been carefully thought about. The food is amazing and prepared with love. The bandas (cottages) will give the feeling like you’re in the middle of the reserve, it doesn’t get any more pure than this. Last but not least, the amazing, informative guides and the game drives are the highlight of the stay. Beho Beho and Selous is the most pure wildlife experience out there! Would never go to any of the big parks again.

A big shoutout ot Heribert and the crew, I had such a wonderful time for the four nights I spent with you. The guiding, both vehicle and walking, were superb. The food was amazing, and the way you set up dinner at a different location every night was magical. I will not soon forget the memories of hippos, elephants, and baboons crossing along the front of my banda.
And, the sunsets and those stars at night...

Very much enjoyed 5 nights here. It’s not a place for first time safari-ers. The game drives allow you to go slowly and really enjoy watching all the animals - lions, hippos, zebras, elephants, wildebeest and giraffes. And the bird watching was spectacular. One huge advantage of the area is that you seldom see another truck so all the animal sightings are just you alone. But if you had never been on safari before you might feel that the sightings are a little sparse.
The guides are all extremely knowledgable and able.
The lodge suited me as the bandas are all open to the elements. There is a screen you can pull across at night but we preferred to leave everything open, giving an impression of really being in the bush, and sleeping under the mosquito nets. We did not get a single mosquito bite. We were told there is no malaria in the area.
The food is really excellent, and there is certainly plenty of it.
We had a couple of days of gray and wet weather so the water for showers, heated by solar power, was only tepid.
Beho Beho is a very relaxing lodge, with high standards, and sitting on the deck of your banda watching elephants, giraffe or hippos wander past is unforgettable.

Just returned from the most amazing stay at Beho Beho. We are a family of first-time safari’ers and all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Two drives (or walking safaris) a day kept us busy and our 6am cup of coffee looking out from the main lodge was magical. We really appreciated the fact that on many occasions we were the only vehicle out and the slow pace allowed the fantastically knowledgeable guides to get us as close as possible to lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, buffalo, wildebeest, baboons, monkeys, crocodiles and many wonderful smaller animals and birds. At the end of the day a different location was chosen for “sundowners”, each more stunning than the last. Back in camp the whole team were so helpful and friendly, our bandas were super-comfortable (and beautiful) and each evening we dined in a different location around the camp which made the experience even more magical. Thank you to the whole team at Beho Beho – we absolutely loved it all!

How lucky that we, as safari newbies, chose Beho Beho Camp. From the moment you arrive, you feel at home in the Banda and are welcomed by the crew like a member of the family. The whole camp exudes a unique African-style flair with all the amenities we are used to. We slept well in the open Banda under the mosquito net and enjoyed coffee the morning before the safari and spotted the first animals from the terrace.
Each wonderfully prepared meal is served in a different place. The table is occupied differently and the topics of conversation are varied. The four guides know the flora and fauna extremely well and are able to impart their knowledge very well. The boat trip on Lake Tagalala with the breakfast surprise will remain a fond memory. We can highly recommend Beho Beho Camp and hope to see Heribert and his top team again.

I had the most amazing stay at Beho Beho on my first trip to Africa and my first Safari. And I travelled alone! The service and facilities were first class. I cannot praise the staff and guides highly enough. Thanks to Hari and the kitchen staff for the delicious catering and cocktails, and to my expert guides Saningo and Heribert. Every moment was special but the walking safari to the hippo pool was among one of many highlights. I have been telling everyone I know about Beho Beho. Thanks again to all the Beho team for a wonderful experience that I will treasure forever.

This really was a trip of a lifetime. I have had many friends go on Safari with a huge list of dos and do nots so something like this is always daunting. (Firstly - big tip - don't go on a budget - on one of our drives we came across a cheap 'traveller' style van stuck in a hole, the guides had no idea, no radio and only 40 metres from hungry lions. I felt for the guys. not recommended!) Anyway - back to Beho Beho.
We went here as part of our honeymoon (note - Beho Beho can also help with Zanzibar hotels etc - we worth asking!). As with all experiences of this note, you can over expect, well this over delivered.
From the moment arrived at its private airstrip we knew we were in for a treat, picked up by the friendly staff and whisked off for arrival and check in complete with cold, refreshing towels.
The place is simply stunning. Based around the Baily Family Home, it really does feel like a home from home rather than hotel or hostel. Each Banda (room) has an open view over the valley below where we saw Lions, elephants, giraffes and heard the Hippos so on 'down time' we were able to spot game from our rooms too.
Each day is actually broken up into 2 or 3 activities from walking or driving safaris. At first it was confusing as I wanted to stay out all day, however it soon becomes apparent how important it is to have some time off. Taking lunch breaks to swim and read, explore for an hour or so was so important. It meant we could see and enjoy more of each day. It would be poor form for me to explain exactly what we did and what it entails as each day was a different surprise and I wouldn't want to ruin the romanticism of it all. I would however, recommend the Treehouse and Lake trips as 'MUST DO'. Also, while walking seems daunting - you won't feel closer to the animals.
As for animals - most other reserves are based outside or on the edge of Selus so it takes about 3 to 4 hours drive before you get close to the animals, esp the Lions etc. Beho Beho is right in the heart of the Selous. Its also an open camp so it is not unheard of animals walking through at night. You really are in the thick of it. We saw everything and not just the animals but how they interacted - monkeys with Elephants, giraffes fighting, elephants pushing each other, hippos jostling for dominance in the pond, lions hunting food, wild dogs on a pack hunt, hyenas scavenging for food ... I mean EVERYTHING.
Food - I see myself as a bit of a 'foodie' as I simply love to eat. Good food and lots of it. The guys at Beho Beho don't disappoint. I think we were fed handsomely 2 or 3 courses every 2 hours that we were awake! Exceptional fine dinning over lunch and dinner that has to be experienced to be believed. Nico really knows what he is doing.
Bonus about this place is that the staff are part of the experience. They eat with you to answer questions and importantly rotate each activity so you get an incite into each individual as well as the reserve.
I would certainly recommend and will be pushing a number of my clients and friends to go here!

Fantastic location, superb lodge, knowledgeable and passionate guides, Beho Beho delivers it all. There was game a plenty, the bush walks were a daily highlight. We were a family of four and each of us were thoroughly charmed by the experience. The only downside - the weight we all put on from eating the excellent food.
